ESSAILEC blocks are used to supply power in serial or branch circuit formonitoring, counting, protection and automatic control devices, withoutdisturbing the operating circuits.

The ESSAILEC block range

Includes :

• C-type blocks for current circuits(green front panel),

• T-type blocks for voltage circuits(grey front panel),

• P-type blocks for polarity circuits(blue front panel)

• DE-type blocks for trip circuits(orange front panel),M 10 - 20 and 30 contact multi-circuit blocks.

Mounting possibilities:

• Base mount - S• Semi-flush mount - D• Flush mount - E,• Plug-in on rack - R,• As an extension - P,

Connection method:

• side compression clamp - VL,• rear ring-tongue-VA• using 5 x 0.8 or 4.7 x 0.8 mm rear quick connect tabs,• wrap wire terminals and rear point-to-point or termi-point

(for the multi-circuit blocks only) PWA.

The ESSAILEC blocks contain two parts which are delivered separately.

The socket

They are normally mounted in a fixed position but can also be fitted at the endof the cables (mounting as an extension or inverted mounting).

They include :

• (1 ) box equipped with contact and connection parts which are either silver-plated (voltage, polarity or trip blocks) or gold-plated (current blocks),

• (2) two coded holes,

optional :

• (3) a protective cover or a cover for sealing (3a),• (4) an accessory used for flush mounting,• (5) two mounting wedges for base mounting,• (6) four screws.

The plug

Fitted at the end of a cable, they can also be mounted in a fixed position(rack or inverted mounting).

They include:

• (7 or 7a) an insulating product,• (8) silver or gold-plated crimp pins,• (9) two coding pins,• (10 or 10a) a protective cover, (marking possibility "strip RTM7")Test plugs are keyed and cannot be reversed.Additionnal keying (between several plugs) is available (coding).

C-type current circuit blocksThese are fitted on the secondary circuits of current transformers and areused to supply current to protection, automatic control systems, measuring,and counting devices.A mobile contact prevents the opening of the secondary currenttransformers when the plug is removed, (make before break)

Step 1 : insertion of the plug.

Step 2 : connection of the device in series.

At rest : circuits closed by the protective cover,

step 1 : opening of the circuit by removing thecover,

step 2 : insertion of a right plug(operation side 01-02-03-04)and/or of a left plug(power supply side 1-2-3-4)or of a 2x4 pin plug on the female contactssocket.

These sockets can only receive the 4 pin plugs.Electrical continuity is permanent.

Fitting or removing the protective coverdoes not alter the circuits in any way.

CodingCoding

There are two types of metal coding pins : one for the sockets and one for the plugs.Due to their hexagonal head, each type can have 6 different positions.

• for socket 0167 379.12

The above parts are supplied with the sockets and the plugs.Upon request, we can supply additional red plastic pins which can be combined with themetal ones.

Principle

All sockets and plugs have two hexagonal housings for fool-proofing interfacing.

• 1 housing on the "Power supply" side (circuit 1.2.3.4)• 1 housing on the "Operations" side (circuits 01.02.03.04)

The coding key can occupy six different positions in its housing.The initial position 0 is identified by an index engraved on the insulating body of thesocket or the plug.The remaining 5 positions are identified by each of the 5 remaining sides of the hexagon.The direction of reading is given by an arrow engraved on the insulating body.By convention, the 6 positions are called 2.4.6.8.10.12.The end of the metal coding key is milled with a line used as an index.The position of this line with respect to the initial position is used to determine the codingkey index.

Reading

By convention, the coding is read from the power supply side of the connector towardsthe operations side, by mentioning the position of each coding key, e.g. :

• 2 - 4, 4 - 2, 6 - 6.

If the socket is fitted with only one coding key, the free position is referred to as NIL, e.g. :

• NIL 6 means : no coding key on the power supply side. the coding key is in position 6 of the operations side.

Layout

The sockets can be mounted with their long axis vertical or horizontal.The initial index 0 engraved in the insulator can take 2 positions at 90° to each other,depending on the mounting direction of the socket.

• Coding pin mounting :

First on the socket which is not fixed and then on the plug.

• Mounting on the socket :

- Position the coding pin as required,- Insert the semi-cylindrical part in the hexagonal housing of the socket (rear side) andpush in until the locking collar fits in the socket countersink.If you make a mistake, remove the collar using a screwdriver and push again the pintowards the back.

• Mounting on the plug :

- Insert the plug coding pin in the opening left by the socket coding pin (fig. 1), until thehexagonal head is in contact with the locking collar (fig. 2),- Insert the locking collar in the hexagonal housing of the plug, (fig. 3),- remove the plug,- push the end of the coding pin until it locks into position (fig. 4).

The plugs supplied with cable are fitted with 2, 4 or 8 x 2,5 mm² (14 AWG)wires which are 2 m long.At the ends of these cables are :- either safety bayonet sockets,- or 4 mm DIA. 4 mm female sockets,- or 4 mm DIA. 4 mm banana plugs.

• Safety bayonet socketsThese are used to connect the plug on the test unit calibration boxes or to producevarious diagrams using straight or H-shaped connectors.
