CIAOS OUT >

FESTIVE We do it best in the UK don’t we? Muffin tops in minus 1 degrees, officeromps, enough food to feed a small African country, family feuds, unwrapping cartoon socks, another murder in Eastenders, Superman II,cheap crackers, decorations up in November, country’s productivity at astandstill, pine needles everywhere but on the tree and everyone askingthat annoying question: “Are you ready for Christmas?”

MY WORD OFTHE MONTH

>> Edmund N. – don’t forget Gables info >> Dave – half a lemon cheesecake again?>> Lettuce – you in town for Chrimbo? >> Chris B. – did she like the chocolates?>> Lenny – what happened to the t-shirt? >> Tom – you my new handyman now? <

I’ve just treated myself tomy perfect Christmaspresent. Perfect because Ilike reading about myselfand being listed in the Day-By-Day PeterboroughDesk Diary 2016 is just aformality.

For me it’s bedtimereading at its best but theproblem is, I’m not in it.Presumably formercolleague and authorSimon Potter is saving oneof my many achievementsand services to the community for the 2017 version?!

So, if you want to find out how Rinaldo Fasulo gets a mention (while I don’t)and which Woodston pub Engelbert Humperdinck performed in or what theconnection a Gladstone Street family had with the Titanic was, then be sureto get yourself a copy.

This is obviously no ordinary desk diary, as it’s packed with more than athousand Peterborough-related anniversaries, typically about three for eachday of the year. And it's not just about the usual suspects such as Katharineof Aragon, John Clare and Edith Cavell – and Rinaldo Fasulo.

It’s kind of a Steve Wright’s ‘factoids’ but for Peterborough, which makes itthe perfect Chrimbo pressie for anyone who lives or has ever lived in ourcity. But above all it doesn’t miss the point of what a diary is for and there’splenty of space to write all your appointments for 2016.

There are loads of facts about Peterborough and links to the city I neverknew but perhaps the one that sticks out in my mind is that Adrian Lyne, director of Fatal Attraction, 9 1/2Weeks, Flashdance, Indecent Proposal andJacob’s Ladder was born in Peterborough in 1941. He even directed a MilkTray Man advert!

The diary is also accompanied by a sort of odd promotional video (search forThe Peterborough Diary on YouTube). I got my copy from the VisitorInformation Centre in Bridge Street or go to www.peterboroughdiary.com.

I’ve only gone and done it and appliedto be the new black-clad hero with asoft centre who likes to sneak intoladies’ bedrooms to deliver chocolates.

Yes, to mark the selection box’s 100thanniversary Cadbury are scouring thecountry to find a modern-day hero whocan carry off the iconic black polo neckand become the new Milk Tray Man.

According to the person specificationthe next Milk Tray Man will need to‘thrive with adventure, welcome thelimelight and above all else go the extramile to make a certain someone feelspecial.’ Cadbury, you’re looking at him– I’m your new guy with themysterious calling card…

WILL I BE THE NEXTMILK TRAY MAN?

DIARY DATE WITHA LOCAL TWIST

You can’t get better praise than this fromLord Sugar: “Joseph, you are stayingwhatever happens.” And rightly so.

In what was his best performance todate, Peterborough’s candidate for TheApprentice Josepth Valente was giventhe boardroom seal of approval aftertaking the initiative to lead on handymantasks when project manager Ellecrumbled from the start.

Her lack of leadership signalled herdownfall but our Joey wasn’t preparedto join her. His natural survival instinctskicked in and he inspired the team tocomplete the theatre basement

decorating task with consummatedirection and assertiveness.

In the boardroom Lord Sugar was quickto praise him for practically steering asinking ship to safety, which in turnguaranteed his own protection.

Joey’s demonstrated he possessesnumerous skills that are required inbusiness, which I’m sure he uses in hiseveryday livelihood. He’s not afraid to gethis hands dirty and has to be afrontrunner for being crowned as thisyear’s Apprentice.

But it’s getting tougher and he’ll needeyes in the back of his head. Forza Joey!

I’ve seen the girls perform on thepopular BBC singing competitionThe Voice, I’ve seen the girls

perform live at the John ClareTheatre on Broadway, Peterborough,so I was already aware of theirexceptional talent, but meeting thegirls in person was a great chance tofind out more about this talentedduo and it was clear to see whypeople have taken them in to theirhearts.

So, ladies, gentlemen and ESPreaders, without further ado, I giveyou Hannah and Naomi Moxon ofClassical Reflection.

ESP, and myself, are huge fans ofClassical Reflection and have eagerlyfollowed their promising career, which although still in its early days, looks set to stand the test of time. The talented identical twins made itthrough to the battle rounds on TheVoice and since then, they havecompletely embraced theexperience.

They both thoroughly love whatthey’re doing, have won an army ofadoring fans (count us in on that),played at sell-out concerts and ifthat’s not enough, they havereleased an EP and have aChristmas concert and albumcoming up!

It was a delight to catch up with thehappy girls, enjoy an apple juice at alocal café and chat about their lives.

The girls excitedly told me:“It’s beenlike a dream! We are enjoyingourselves so much and are trulygrateful for the experience and thesupport from our fans.

“The Voice was an amazingexperience and one that we’ve reallyembraced, shows like this are agreat platform for artists.

“Classical music is a really stronggenre and we love being able to addour own twist to popular classicalsongs.”

Their eagerly awaited album, TheVow, will be released early next year(don’t worry, we’ll tell you when),and includes eight songs carefullyhandpicked by the girls. I know howmuch thought goes into selectingtheir songs. One of my fondestmemories when watching themperform, was how they guided theaudience with a brief description asto why they’d chosen the song theywere about to perform. This was abeautiful touch and really showedtheir connection to their songs andthe music.

If you can’t wait until their album, don’t worry, you can enjoy therelease of their Christmas EP ofthree Christmas songs plus TheLiving Years available now bydownloading from Amazon, iTunesor Spotify. It will also be available tobuy at the girls’ Christmas concerton Sunday December 13 whereyou can catch Classical Reflectionperforming live at The Marriot Hotelin Peterborough.

For more information, to shop or buytickets for the concert visitwww.classicalreflection.co.uk or youcan buy them from thePeterborough Tourist InformationCentre on Bridge St, 01733 452336.

We never thought it would happen afterGeorge Lucas supposedly closed the six-part saga in 2005 – but now the biggestmovie franchise of all-time continues.

Set around thirty years after the eventsof Return of the Jedi, Han Solo (HarrisonFord), Leia (Carrie Fisher) and their alliesface a new threat from the evillightsaber-wielding Kylo Ren (AdamDriver) and his army of Stormtroopers.

Expect Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (JohnBoyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac)and new robot BB-8 to play importantroles in the seventh movie in the series, with other old favourites such asChewbecca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and ofcourse Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalkerreturning – even though his appearance, like most plot points in the film, isshrouded in mystery.

Peterborough’s own Warwick Davis willalso be showing up as a new characteras well – to provide the city with apresence in what should be the biggestfilm of the year.

It will have to go quite a bit to beatJurassic World, but with JJ Abrams atthe helm this should go stratospheric atthe box office…

With most next-gen consoles starting off with only 500GB of harddrive a lot of gamers have been running out of space, but thatneedn’t be a problem anymore with the 2TB My Passport X device(which has been specifically designed for Xbox One/360 and PC), orsister product, the My Passport Ultra (available in 1TB and 2TBversions).

With just a 1TB version Ultra added onto the Xbox One (tocompliment the 500GB internal drive) for example, with 15 fullgames (including large downloads such as Halo: The Master ChiefCollection and Batman: Arkham Knight) and seven massive gamingfiles (for the likes of Destiny and Far Cry 4) there was still morethan half the storage left.

But the Passport X is the sleek new kid on the block, and with animproved interface designed for the Xbox One (which has adedicated port and correct firmware) this will hold up to around 50extra games for the console.

The Xbox One console packages (like the new Halo 5: Guardianspack) do now boast 1TB consoles (along with new Playstation 4offerings) to get around this growing problem of storage. But ifyou're not starting from scratch, the My Passport products areundoubtedly the best in their field and come highly recommendedthis Christmas - as X marks the spot.

FALLOUT 4 (X1/PS4/PC)The first next-gen console version of the award-winning post-apocalyptic series of games has finally hit – and boy has it beenworth the wait.

In this iteration of the game – the first console instalment since2010’s New Vegas – you enter the nuclear-ravaged world ofBoston, Massachusetts, as the sole survivor of Vault 111 afterseeing your wife murdered and young child taken.

Fallout 4 offers more of the same mutant, raider anddeathclaw-fuelled universe that fans will know and love –complete with next-gen spit and polish – with literally hundredsof hours of Pip Boy-inspired questing, perk-building andweapon-making abilities at your disposal as the lone wanderer.

Those who didn’t previously subscribe to this role-playing openworld may again struggle here, but for hardcore fans this is anabsolute dream – particularly with the addition of the PowerArmour suit and inspirational new crafting options – and willconsume die-hards for months.

CALL OF DUTY: BLACKOPS III (PS4/X1/PS3/360/PC)Die-hard fans of theseries will lap-up thislatest action-packedversion in the shooterfranchise.

It arguably has the mostcontent in the series yet –from the four-player co-opcampaign mode to newin-game powers (see killerbee swarms) – withonline and Zombie modesbeing perfectly honed to

give it that ultra-smooth complete feel.

As a new breed of Black Ops soldier collides with cutting-edge technology, first-person shooter fans needn’t lookanywhere else – with a new multiplayer ranking systembeing the tasty batter on this COD fillet.

ASSASSIN’S CREED:SYNDICATE (PS4/X1/PC)After the bug-filled messthat was Unity this is awelcome return to formfor the much-loved series –with a distinctly Britishtwist.

You play as twin assassinsiblings as the industrialrevolution hits 1868London – and you musttake out the city’s greedyleaders by rallying theunderworld to break the

corrupt stranglehold on the capital.

Despite inevitable repetition this has a fun and action-packed main story and excellent Charles Dickens-inspiredside missions – which take the stealth-inspired series backto what it does best – and makes this the best AC for years.

It tries so hard to find anew identity – which itseems to have basedaround the fan-favouriteUnderground incarnationsfrom ten years or so ago– but falls foul ofschoolboy errors.

The Fast: superb visuals, familiar arcade-style handlingand nice drift modes. The Infuriating: undersubscribedsingle-player, hit-and-miss multiplayer and the inability topause the ‘always online’ gaming mechanics.

But there’s still plenty of speeding to enjoy here.

Christmas Special

STAR WARS:BATTLEFRONT (PS4/X1/PC)With anticipation for TheForce Awakens at feverpitch – the best Star Warsgame in ages has donethe franchise justice.

This great-lookingmultiplayer game – whichhas the tried-and-testedBattlefield mechanics –sends you to suchfamous locales as Hoth,Endor and Tatooine, asyou fight as either

characters from the Rebel Alliance or Empire acrossseveral great modes (see Drop Zone and Walker Mode).

It does scandalously lack a much needed single-playercampaign – and some cohesion at times – but is still theperfect gaming accompaniment to the forthcoming film.

The force is strong with this one.

RISE OF THE TOMBRAIDER (X1/360)Developers CrystalDynamics have raised thebar once again for the nextgeneration of Lara Croftfans in this Xbox timed-exclusive. This beautifullyrendered and trulycaptivating arena may notbe quite as open world assome games – and thecombat is still a tad linear –but everything else oozesquality from every pore.

With its exploration-based main story/side quests, notabletomb-inspired puzzling elements, and truly entertaining waysof traversing the inspired locales – this treasure huntingadventure has it all.

Throw in an emotional core – then this rises to the topamong the year’s best.

WWE 2K16(X1/PS4/360/PS3)

Publisher 2K have learnedfrom their mistakes of lastyear to arguably providethe best WWE versionsince 2003’s Here Comesthe Pain.

The first thing that theyget right is an absolutelyhuge roster – includingfavourites such as SethRollins, Roman Reigns,Bad News Barrett andSheamus – which now

boasts, for the first time, NXT grapplers.

Couple this with more intuitive (and less stop-starty)gameplay – despite a few online teething issues – thenthis delivers a ‘Bull Hammer’ of a blow that truly satisfies.

The MINI Clubman shares my DNA. It treads adifferent path. It appeals to the driver who refusesto conform to a Ford Focus, Audi A3, VW Golf oreven a BMW 1 Series.

The type of person behind the wheel of a Clubmansniffs out a slice of novelty, style and uniqueness. They want to stand out from the crowd and owninga Clubman allows them to.

Earlier this year my Man About Town sponsorsSycamore MINI handed me the keys to the newMINI John Cooper Works. The car was atechnological masterpiece and I’ve been pining for itever since. It was a proper baptism to the MINIbrand and I have to say I’m tempted.

This time they were in a tamer mood andsuggested I got to know the second generationClubman, which has just been launched.

Admittedly at first glance I struggled to get excited.I’m a full blown petrol head and I’m not happyunless I’m darting as quickly as I can from A to Bwhether it be on four wheels or two. So, theClubman had one job – to change my mind-set. Itwas almost like, “Tonight Matthew I’m going to

be…” I had to be someone else and drive like thatsomeone else would. And credit where it’s due, theClubman did a job on me. I actually rather liked it.

Looks

First things first, the new Clubman is bigger than itspredecessor. It’s longer and fatter inside and outwhich means extra luggage space and moreplanted handling. But although she’s looking allgrown up she still has enough curves andcheekiness to draw a smile each time you walk upto her.

The exterior design is largely derived from thehatchback but it’s at the rear where the mostsignificant change has occurred. The rear-hingeddoor from the old model has been scrapped infavour of two conventional rear doors just like theoriginal British Leyland Clubman from back in theday.

The best thing about them is they open on theirown at the touch of a button or, on this model, bywaggling your foot below the rear bumper and thenyou look like a magician!

Inside

The cabin in this Clubman is its jewel in the crown. You’ll be hard pushed to find another car on themarket with a £20k starting price tag that makesyou feel so welcome, safe and overwhelmed in agood way.

Granted, this model was furnished with the ever-popular Chili Pack and was bursting at the seamswith trick bits but the Clubman in naked guise stillpacks a standard equipment punch. Standard kitincludes climate control, cruise control, sat-nav,Bluetooth, USB connectivity, keyless start and air-con. Inside is quality all round and the best optionalextra for me are the excellent leather heated seatsthat toasted my bum and lower back to perfection.

Ride

The way this car drives can be summed up in oneword: civilised. I felt like a cross between an on-calldoctor making his way to an appointment and astay-at-home dad on a school run.

The ride is calming and comfortable. The Clubman isa family car and a perfect long distance cruiser, which is purposefully not wired up like the MINI

When I think about it I’ve never really conformed to the masses. At schoolinstead of lunching on jam sandwiches I’d be tucking into a mortadella andprosciutto roll. In my teens it was all about listening to Nirvana while I stuck to TheHousemartins. I didn’t go on to work at Pearl Assurance or settle down in my 30s.

The festive season is well and truly here, and many of us are spending ourdays shopping around for the perfect Christmas gift. This can leave cardealerships pretty empty, making December a great time of year to buy acar or motorbike as you'll be more likely to get yourself a decent discount. While you’re grabbing a bargain on your next set of wheels, don’t forget tobag yourself a great deal on your finance package too, by giving the friendlyteam at Charles & Dean a call. hatchback but the blueprint still liesbeneath.

It’s still alert (especially in sportmode) and the chassis helps toreassure you with enough feel andpoise when you’re driving throughthe motions. Best of all theClubman strikes a balancebetween a planted ride andsuspension that’s forgiving overless smoother surfaces.

Performance

All the engines in the newClubman range come with astandard six-speed manual gearboxwith either a six or new eight-

speed automatic gearbox andoptional steering wheel shiftpaddles.

This model was the manual versionand produces 134bhp from its 1.5litre petrol engine. The dash to62mph is achieved in a smidgenover nine seconds and top speed is127mph. For anyone obsessedwith fuel economy, the average is55 miles per gallon.

Diesel fans will like the 2.0-litre,148bhp Cooper D Clubman withnearly 69 miles to the gallon toboast and performance figures tomatch most mid-range hot hatches.

Verdict If you blindfolded me and took me for a drive in the Clubman I’d haveprobably guessed I was in an Audi or Golf.

But in the driving seat, despite it feeling like no other MINI ever made, theClubman still retains enough of those unmistakable MINI hatch genes toremind you of the quirkiness and edge it has compared to its counterparts.

It’s a car that’ll be sensible like it’s designed to be but being all grown updoesn’t mean it can’t have fun. Minis are unique and the new Clubman istestament to that individual selling point that’s kept our love for the brandunconditional for so long. You can see why so many join their club(man).

A HUG IS FOR LIFE NOTJUST FOR CHRISTMAS!Touch is one of our body’s main

physical senses which we alldesire and thrive on whether

that comes from a hand placedgently on the back, a squeeze of thehand, a hug, our hair being stroked, feet being held, the linking of armswith another or a massage. Whenour body is touched in this positiveway it can have many benefits onour mind, body and emotions.

When we experience the warmthand love of a hug or other positivephysical touch it sends stimulationvia the nerves to the brain to releasea hormone known as the ‘lovehormone’ called Oxytocin. This lovehormone is said to help us feelsafer, more trusting and connected.Oxytocin is also called the ‘cuddlehormone’

Physical touch may also have otherbenefits such as:

– Lowering Cortisol which is thestress hormone

– Increase immunity – by loweringthe stress hormone which cansuppress immunity

– Relaxing muscles which canreduce tension

– Lowering blood pressure

– Improving our mood

– Calming of the nervous system

– Release of endorphins which canrelease positive feelings

– Stimulating healthy levels ofserotonin – a chemical that cansupport mood, appetite, sleep andmore

Massage is of course one way ofexperiencing the benefits of humantouch and is well known to have arange of physical and mentalbenefits relieving not only aches andpains but mental stresses too.Serenity Loves on Oundle Roadoffer a full range of massagetreatments including, full body, back, neck and shoulder, hot stonetherapy, Indian head massage andeven pregnancy massage. Thetherapeutic power of massage isenhanced with the use of essentialoils.

Massage therapist Tirren fromSerenity Loves told me – “If youfeel better physically you will alsofeel better mentally. Massage helpsimprove circulation, the elimination

of wastes and toxins and releasesendorphins. It’s also a little time outfor you so it’s great for both mindand body.”

With the Christmas and New Yearcelebrations starting off now youwon’t be short of a therapeutictouch, a hug or even a kiss underthe mistletoe along the way, sopucker up and get ready for some ofthe best (free) medicine around, butremember a hug is good for life notjust for Christmas. In fact for theyear ahead why not make a physicaltherapy such as massage orreflexology a part of your healthregime. So many splash outhundreds or even thousands ofpounds on aesthetic treatmentssuch as nail treatments, eyebrows,

eyelashes etc and not so muchthought goes into these types oftreatments which can offer so muchon the health and wellbeing front.

Have a wonderful Christmas orHoliday time – I am now off toincrease my cuddle hormone!

The toys are in the shops, the spoilers are onthe internet, and people are getting so excitedabout the new Star Wars film it's like they'vejust completed the Kessel Run in less than 12par secs! Now, if you were part of thegeneration that grew up with the originaltrilogy of films you'll understand why there'sso much anticipation around Star Wars:Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

When I was a youngling, going to the cinemato see Star Wars, the Empire Strikes Back andReturn of the Jedi was an unforgettableexperience. For those like me, our childhoodyears and Star Wars went hand-in-hand. Itcaptured our hearts and fired our imaginationlike no other set of films. We relived storiesand battles through toys and games andforged a lifelong affinity with even the most

minor of characters. From the sounds of it TheForce Awakens looks set to take Star Warsinto a new era with the kind of ideas and epicstorytelling that made the originals somemorable. My oldest son is the same age Iwas when I was taken to see The EmpireStrikes Back at the cinema so I'm excited thathe'll get the chance to see a brand new StarWars film unfold on the big screen in front of apacked audience. He’s become utterlyabsorbed in the Star Wars universe over thepast few years, while my youngest son at theage of 2 could hum the Star Wars themebefore he said his first word! All of which hasre-awakened my interest in a film series Ithought I'd left behind a long time ago on ahousing estate far, far away.

enough to have our own Star Wars actor amongst us. WhenWarwick Davis turned on the Christmas Lights last year atSerpentine Green I took my son along. He had brought alonghis Wicket the Ewok cuddly toy and had a smile as wide as'Beggar’s Canyon' when Warwick was interviewed on stageand said his favourite film role was as Wicket in Return of theJedi! It's fantastic that Warwick's in the new movie (possiblyas a new character) and if you haven't seen the Star Warssketch he recently made for Children in Need check it out onYouTube.

Star Wars has always been an irresistible force of film andfandom, and when we hear that familiar John Williamsfanfare strike up at the cinema it all begins again. I can't wait. This will be a Christmas long remembered.

I’m quite fortunate though, I knowwhat to expect. I’ve been at thefootball club for 14 years now andencountered Mr Bullard as a youngfootballer trying to make his way inthe game. I had hours of fun tryingto interview him (as YouTube willdemonstrate) and as a practical joker, there is no one better in the business.

So when Soccer AM contacted merecently to arrange a featureinvolving the former I’m A CelebrityGet Me Out Of Here contestant, Inervously clicked yes to the email. When he arrived, I knew it wasgoing to be an eventful day.

From the moment he hooted thehorn with enthusiasm at the Mick

George Training Ground at the sightof me standing there at the gate, tothe big bear hug he gave when hedeparted hours later, Bullard’spersonality was infectious and Igenuinely felt shattered at the end of the working day thanks to his non-stop humour.

Interviewing him is like eating a tubof Pringles. You start off with theintention of finishing the interview allin one go, but in reality, you need achance to breathe somewhere in themiddle. He gets distracted easily, whether it be my unique fashionsense, my hair or just the fact weboth have radio shows, getting aword in with Jimbo is a challenge in itself.

The feature for Soccer AM was alaugh a minute and as you can seeon the club’s YouTube channel, thebehind the scenes content providesa giggle from start to finish. “It’sgood to be back,” Bullard exclaimedas he met up with former West HamUnited team-mate Grant McCann, former Fulham mate Gabriel Zakuaniand former Posh star David Farrell.

“I love this club,” Bullard continued.“This is where I got my big break inthe game so I always have fondmemories. There were a few goodcharacters here. We had some goodtimes didn’t we, me and you Phil?”Of course being brought into aninterview is always amusing, buthe’s right, he was a person, both on and off the pitch who brought entertainment.

Of course nowadays he can beconsidered a bit of a celeb. And notjust because he starred in a showthat had the word Celebrity in itstitle. It was just over a year ago thathe became the first person votedout of the jungle in the ITV showfollowing a bit of ‘banter’ that wastaken too far according to the voting public.

“I didn’t think it was too bad,” Bullardsaid. “I might have opened mymouth a little bit too quickly, but itwas only a bit of banter. I loved theshow and it has done a lot for mesince. It was hard though, I thoughtthey would airlift a pizza in, but whatyou see is what happens and I reallystruggled with the food. My adviceto any contestant would be tosmuggle in some salt because thefood is so bland,” Bullard recalled.

After completing the drill for SoccerAM (and joining in with the trainingsession), Bullard retired to thedressing room to see the Poshplayers had provided a prank in hishonour – tying his shoes to theceiling with a few choice commentsabout his gear. It brought back happy memories.

“See that’s what it’s about, a bit ofbanter. I must be going soft in myold age letting them get away withthat,” Bullard concluded. And withthat, he was off.

Finally, I would like to take thisopportunity to wish all the readers ofthis column a Happy Christmas. Ihope you all have a great time!

J-HUS LIVE PERFORMANCE @ VANITY The Vanity team are proud to bring you one of the most talked about UK artists; J-Hus who will be joining therest of the Vanity crew for his first live performance in Peterborough at the Red Room on Friday December 4.

In less than 12 months J-Hus has become one of the most talked about new talents on the urban musicscene riding at the forefront of the current grime resurgence. Combined with Vanity’s sounds of the finesturban music and a live performance from J-Hus, this is definitely a night not to be missed!

Head to facebook.com/VanityNights for more info.

I caught up with local DJ legend Darren James who’s been a firm fixture onthe house scene for over 18 years now and who’ll be gracing the decks at theSolstice on Boxing Day with the legends that are Alex P and Brandon Block.

Darren’s passion for music comes through loud and clear and it’s easy to seewhy he’s become such a success in the music industry. With clubs likeMinistry of Sound, Bora Bora in Ibiza and Pacha in London under his belt, I hada feeling he’d know a thing or two about DJing.

He told me: “The key to being a good DJ is to genuinely enjoy what you do, thatpassion will shine through and the crowd will pick up on that. After all, the DJ isthere to create the vibe and I’ll always have a little boogie to my own music.”

It all started back in 1989 with a visit to the legendary Gatecrasher Nightclubwhich propelled Darren into the house scene and after his visit he went homeand produced his first mix tape.

“I’d always wanted to be a DJ and have what you’d call a natural ear for music. When I was out dancing, I’d listen out for the drop and even sync the tunestogether. I learnt on vinyl and I’m happy to say that my career has taken me tosome of the best clubs in the world.

“My style varies depending on the crowd and one of the most importantthings as a DJ is reading the crowd. Some like it deep, some like it funky, butI’m always about the killer, not the filler tunes!”

Darren is an energetic character and you can see why he does well as thefront man on the decks.

“I get a nervous kind of excitement before I play and even after all these years, that feeling hasn’t gone.”

He’s a busy man with a radio show on Peterborough FM, The Debrief, whichtakes you from the start of the night to the end, without even needing to leaveyour house! Darren also teaches DJing, so if you fancy giving it a go, or wouldlike to book Darren, you can get in touch with him on his Facebook page -www.facebook.com/darren.james.

So what’s next for the man who’s played alongside the greats such as MarkKnight, David Guetta and The Swedish House Mafia?

“You can catch me playing with Alex P and Brandon Block on Boxing Day atthe Solstice and I’d like to say a big shout out to Steve Andrews and SeanBoyle for their continued support. On a more national scale, house fans will beaware of the legendary nightclub Egg in London, and I’ll be back there again onFriday December 11. I look forward to seeing you all there!”

You can also check out Darren’s Mixcloud page www.mixcloud.com/Discjockeyto hear all of his latest mixes and ESP wishes him the best of luck for Londonand beyond.

This super-group is made up of six members who havean impressive four decades of live music experience.Featuring Jeff Brown on vocals and bass guitar (Sweetand Tremeloes), Steve Whalley on guitar (Slade front-man), Pete Phipps on drums (original drummer with TheGlitter Band, Eurhythmics), Phil Hendriks (The Stiffs, LesMcKeown's Bay City Rollers) and Dave Major

This is followed on Saturday December 12 by BootlegAbba’s Christmas Party Night. Bringing all the Abbaclassic hits to Stamford are one of the most acclaimedtribute acts. Finally Saturday December 19 sees a uniqueappearance by Terry Rice-Milton. Terry was the originalvoice of Cupids Inspiration and along with some of hisfellow original Cupids he brings a Christmas Special tothe Corn Exchange.
