Raising money by moonlightHugh Lyford and Christian Darby from the Garden Centre are in training for the Nightrider London Charity Cycle Ride in June. They’re usually up bright and early for work but will become night owls for the event which starts just before midnight and will take in the iconic sights of London by moonlight.
Starting at Crystal Palace, they will cycle 61 miles (100km), which takes in most of London. Hugh said, ‘We’re raising as much money as possible for The Princess Alice Hospice. We both cycle to work every day, rain or shine, so we have a head start with our training. We’re doing a couple of thirty mile routes to prepare in the weeks leading up to Nightrider and we’re hoping to pair up as a team.’

Award winning Garden CentreTo help ensure our standards are maintained to an exceedingly high level we are regularly inspected by keen eyed judges from the Garden Centre Association. Our most recent accolades from the GCA include the Garden Centre in the South Thames Area with the Best Service & Facilities, Best Food Hall/Farm Shop and Best Lifestyle Retailer.
Growing with SchoolsWe like to be part of the local community and over the past year Garsons has been working with several nearby schools, helping with gardening projects. We’ve been blown away by the projects, including a sensory garden and some impressive vegetable plots.
One of the schools we’ve teamed up with is Milbourne Lodge, who created a vegetable garden in raised beds. Hugo was one of the children involved in planting the garden, who said:‘I like the garden. We’re going to have the vegetables that we have grown at school for lunch. I want to try some fresh salads from our school plot as this is nice and healthy.’
Naturally, we’re delighted to foster a love of growing vegetables and gardening in children.
Chocolatier heaven from Weybridge
initially sold as a medicine, and it’s still a pick-me-up all these years later. The chocolates are locally made in Weybridge, in tune with our Farm Shop ethos of supporting local artisan producers wherever possible.
The ranges are handmade to the highest standard by master chocolatier, Bill McCarrick and his team of chocoholics. Treat yourself to their melt-in-the-mouth smoothness and find out why the chocolatiers have won two prestigious Great Taste awards.

PYO moves with the times Our Pick Your Own Farm isn’t just the largest in the UK, it’s now the most technologically advanced! Thanks to advances in Wi-Fi technology (and some elbow grease from our IT team), our PYO payment system is now as advanced as those in the Garden Centre and Farm shop. This means less time at the tills and more time in the fields picking your favourite crops.
New PYO apple orchard! We’re proud to unveil Garsons’ new orchard at the PYO Farm. The Farm team planted the 1,200 tree apple orchard three years ago. The eight varieties include Discovery, Bramley, Scrumptious and Cox, to give a season that lasts from late July to October.
Totally tomatoThe Tomato Stall brings the freshest, ripest and tastiest tomatoes from greenhouses on the Isle of Wight. The Farm Shop team visited them to see the traditional heirlooms and super-sweet mini varieties growing, along with production of their absolutely-additive-and-preservative-free tomato products. They’re made in small batches using the sweetest and tastiest Isle of Wight tomatoes.
The award winning range includes:- Pure Tomato Juice- Pure Tomato Sauce- Oak-Roasted Cherry Tomatoes- Oven-Roasted Tomatoes- Tomato Ketchup

Busy Lizzies are back!As you may already be aware, one of our favourite plants, the busy lizzie (impatien) suffered a bout of powdery mildew last season. Thankfully an alternative is now available! The new, ‘Divine Mix’ (pictured) means we can continue to enjoy busy lizzies in our gardens this summer! They are powdery mildew resistant and come to you in a range of wonderful bright colours.
Normally only available from cuttings, these specially developed impa-tiens have large flowers, a well-branched habit and green-to-bronze leaf colours to add contrast to planting schemes. They have good all weather tolerance and will flourish all summer long. They are renowned for their long lasting colour and perfect for window boxes and patio containers.
Drought tolerant gardeningPlant your own drought tolerant garden with trees, shrubs and perennials that can go longer without water. There’s a plant to suit all spaces, whether you only have room for a climber or would like to fill a large gap. Young plants need to be kept moist, but choose drought tolerant types and after their first summer they will cope better in prolonged dry conditions and save you the bother of watering.
