ESCOFET 1886, S.A. tiene, desde su ori-

gen decimonónico, una vocación funda-

cional de servicio a la arquitectura y a la

construcción, iniciada en la fabricación

y edición de los pavimentos de mosaico

hidráulico para el interior de las viviendas

del Modernismo.

La misión de la compañía es contribuir a

mejorar la calidad de vida y el imaginario

de los ciudadanos, con un gran compo-

nente de innovación y criterios construc-

tivos en edifi cación y en espacio urbano,

explotando la mejor tecnología y excelen-

cia del material hormigón, que se extien-

de a otros materiales.

El valor de la compañía, en lo industrial,

cultural y editorial, radica en la acumula-

ción histórica del capital humano e inte-

lectual que refl eja la marca. Su estrategia

pionera de anticipación de la demanda en

interacción con los proyectistas, el lide-

razgo en la generación de un vocabulario

universal de elementos urbanos, así como

su certero servicio de logística, son claves

en su expansión internacional.

La recuperación del espacio público para

el ciudadano, como espacio arquitectóni-

co y simbólico, es un hecho importante en

la Europa de los últimos veinticinco años.

A partir de 1980 en Barcelona, como en

ninguna otra ciudad, es posible contem-

plar la formulación de un nuevo concepto

de espacio urbano. En este sentido ES-

COFET es una referencia de 120 años de

la ciudad de Barcelona y de los últimos 25

años de su espacio urbano. Sucesión de

imágenes de la ciudad que forman parte

del imaginario colectivo del ciudadano,

espacios ya anónimos donde transcurre

la novela de la vida en escenarios de du-

rabilidad física, conceptual y sentimental.

En este catálogo se ofrece, de forma

legible y sistemática, una información

de nuestras facetas y actividades como

respuesta solvente a las necesidades de

proyecto y de construcción.

Since its foundation at the end of the 19th century,ESCOFET 1886, S.A. has pursued its principal activity of providing contem-porary urban solutions for architects and specifi ers.

The company’s mission and passion is to enhance the quality and appearance of public spaces and building exteriors, en-couraging greater use of the urban envi-ronment by installing creative, innovative products and systems. BUILDING TO MEASURE

Escofet 1886 is a company with a long

experience in the development of urban

elements together with architects and

designers.

This selection of projects shows the capaci-

ty of the company in the development and

production of a wide range of products.

Escofet works with different materials (such

as moulded cast stone, cast iron, stainless

steel, Cor-Ten steel, wood...) and it resear-

ches and innovates to achieve the best

quality in product fi nishing, textures, colours

and use of new materials.

Escofet works together with the designer

from the creative phase to the technical

execution of any kind of product, ranging

from pieces of simple making, such as

Con motivo de la celebración de la 32ª edición de

la Copa América, se ha construido sobre la dársena

del puerto de Valencia, el edifi cio “Veles e Vents”,

según proyecto de David Chipperfi eld y Fermín Váz-

quez (B720). La obra incluye un edifi cio principal de

invitados, un edifi cio de aparcamiento en continui-

dad y la zona del parque. Escofet ha prefabricado

unos cerramientos de sección dentada de hormigón

moldeado de color gris oscuro, interrumpido con la

incorporación de escaleras de comunicación entre

la plataforma superior y el paseo paralelo al canal.

Con el mismo material y acabado de los paneles

también ha producido bancas SOCRATES, jardine-

ras de gran volumen y ceniceros NET. La papelera

BIN de acero Cor-Ten es el modelo instalado en

todo el espacio exterior.

The “Veles e Vents” building was built on the dock of

Valencia port on the occasion of the 32nd America’s

Cup according to a project by David Chipperfi eld

and Fermín Vázquez (B720). The project includes a

main building for guests, an adjacent car-park build-

ing and a park area. Escofet prefabricated some of

the serrated-section sidings using dark-grey cast

concrete, interrupted by the addition of stairways

communicating the top plane with the promenade

parallel to the canal. The same material and fi nish

of the panels was also used to produce SOCRATES

benches, large fl owerbeds and NET ashtrays. Cor-

Ten steel BIN litter bins are installed throughout the

outdoor areas.

El espacio público de la manzana ocupada por la

Torre de Gas Natural está organizado como un fl ujo

que acompaña el volumen en voladizo soportado

por las dos torres.

Modular con sección autoportante que se alinea

ante las alfombras del pavimento Papallosa.

2. PAPALLOSA

Pavimento gráfi co que reproduce de forma abstrac-

ta la mariposa (papallona en catalán) logotipo de la

empresa. Algunas de ellas son negras.

3. LÍMITE FUENTE

de forma oblonga reproduce los pliegues de la piel

que bordean el ojoque mira hacia el cielo y se re-

crea con la visión de la torre.

4. BORDILLO MARIPOSA

que reporduce en su sección el inicio del vuelo

with an oblong shape portraying the folds of the

skin around the eye that looks skywards, delighting

in the sight of the tower.

El concurso internacional convocado

para la ampliación del recinto de Fira

de Barcelona, ganado por el arquitec-

to Toyo Ito, ha supuesto para Escofet

una gran oportunidad para el desa-

rrollo de nuevos elementos de paisa-

je que conjugan la naturaleza con la

arquitectura de los pabellones.

La luz y el agua como elementos

vivos, la búsqueda de la ingravidez,

constantes en la obra del arquitecto,

se materializan en los alcorques 1 ,

metáfora líquida de gran plastici-

dad, el conjunto de bancas ola 2

que emergen y se sumergen en el

pavimento, los surtidores fl orales 3 en la fuente monumental y los

bancos Naguisa 4 , instalados en-

frente del acceso principal del recinto

Ferial, en clara alegoría a las curvas

espumosas que al mar deja sobre la

arena.

for the extension of the enclosure

of “Fira de Barcelona”, gained by

Toyo Ito, architect, has supposed

for Escofet a great opportunity for

the development of new elements of

landscape that conjugate the nature

with the architecture of the pavilions.

The light and the water like alive ele-

ments, the search of the weightless-

ness, constants in the work of the

architect, are materialized in 1 tree

surrounds, liquid metaphor of great

plasticity, the set of “banca ola” 2 that emerge and they submerge in

the pavement, fl oral jets 3 in the

monumental fountain and the Na-

guisa banks 4 , installed the main

access before of fairground, in clear

allegory to the frothy curves that to

the sea leaves on the sand.

La transformación urbanística de la zona del Fórum de las Culturas 2004 de Barce-

lona genera nuevos lugares y paisajes para la ciudad. Espacios públicos de gran es-

cala que se articulan a lo largo del litoral Nordeste: la Explanada del Fórum, el Parc

dels Auditoris, la zona de Baños, el Port de Sant Adrià y el Parc de la Pau; espacios

que conforman una variedad de situaciones donde la relación con el mar y con los

nuevos equipamientos e instalaciones va defi niendo el carácter de cada zona.

Elementos como Hebi, Murllum, Odesa y Xurret System nacen con la capacidad de

confi gurar el espacio que colonizan. Elementos innovadores que condensan la ener-

gía de los nuevos lugares del paisaje urbano y que coexisten con elementos anóni-

mos que aportan la materialidad a lo proyectado (escaleras, gradas, bordillos...).

Estos elementos especiales coexisten con standards como las columnas Kanya, la

papelera Pedra Negra, la fuente Lama, los Bolardos, la Sillarga: elementos de larga

serie que demuestran su universalidad y actualidad.

The urban transformation of the area of the Forum of the Cultures in 2004 in Bar-

celona generated new spaces and new landscapes for the city. Large scale public

spaces were formed along the coast to the north east of the city: the Esplanade of

the Forum, the Auditorium Park, the bathing zone, Sant Adrià port and the Parc de la

Pau. All of these spaces gave rise to a variety of situations in which the relationship

between the sea, the new equipment and installations would defi ne the character

of each zone.

Elements such as Hebi, Murllum, Odesa and the Xurret System are born with the

capacity to shape the space where they take hold. They are innovative elements

that condense the energy of the new urban landscape spaces and which co-ex-

ist alongside anonymous elements with which the projects are materialized (stairs,

tiers, kerbs..).

These special elements are alongside standard ones such as the Kanya columns,

the Pedra Negra waste paper container, the Lama fountain, the Bollards, the Sil-

larga: they are long series elements. Their universality is manifest, and it is clear

they are designs of today.

La excepcionalidad de este gran proyecto ha ge-

nerado un proceso único dónde la innovación y la

experimentación han llevado hasta soluciones es-

tructurales y constructivas inéditas.

Formas y volúmenes que se escaparían a las

posibilidades de la construcción tradicional se

resuelven aplicando la más avanzada tecnología

de moldeado así como se está llevando a cabo el

proyecto del Templo, dónde la complejidad geomé-

trica y estructural piden la más alta precisión en su

construcción.

This great project is so exceptional that it has

brought into being a unique process in which inno-

vation and experimentation have led to new struc-

tural and construction solutions being developed.

Forms and volumes which would be beyond the

possibilities of traditional construction are made

carried out and in which the structural and geomet-

ric complexity require highly precise construction.

ESCOFET es una empresas que ha sabido madurar su

línea de producto e integrar el diseño como elemento

fundamental en el proceso de innovación y creación de un

catálogo de elementos urbanos - actualmente una de las

mejores colecciones de entre las empresas del sector.

Generalmente las empresas editoras de elementos

urbanos, a falta de detectar nuevas necesidades, buscan

respuestas heterogéneas a las necesidades de siempre.

Bien sea variando su materialidad, bien su proceso de

construcción. El resultado son catálogos cada vez más

amplios con piezas fi gurativamente distintas pero con

preocupaciones comunes.

El devenir de los acontecimientos nos impulsa irremedia-

blemente hacia una creciente especialización en la que las

compañías permutan el papel de meros suministradores

de elementos urbanos por el de consultores especialistas

en el desarrollo de proyectos de creciente complejidad. En

esta situación, ESCOFET se sitúa en la intersección arqui-

tecto-proyecto-producto, con la mejor ventaja competitiva

para gestionar estos proyectos y estandarizar piezas

singulares, por complejas que sean, en elementos de uso

universal.

Para crecer en este contexto de mercado homogéneo y

Generally speaking, when companies producing urban furniture fi nd that they cannot discern new needs, they seek heterogeneous responses to the customary require-ments, either by changing material aspects or changing the building process.
