The icebergs are coming. Marvel at nature at its most awesome as these monoliths of ice make their way down the Labrador Current to the shores of Fogo Island. Circumnavigate an iceberg an hour offshore or observe them out of the floor-to-ceiling windows of your room from the warmth and comfort of your bed. Located along “Iceberg Alley,” Fogo Island Inn is perfectly situated for taking in the ever-changing hues that highlight these behemoths of ancient ice. Whether you are out hunting for ‘bergie bits aboard a seafaring vessel, scouting the waves for icebergs, migrating whales, and seabirds, or merely wondering in awe at the power and expanse of the wild North Atlantic, you will undoubtedly feel the remarkable might of these glacial giants.

Sample 3-Night Itinerary

DAY 1

AFTERNOON Arrive on Fogo Island and allow the Island to reveal itself on the 30-minute drive through outport communities as you make your way off to your refuge, Fogo Island Inn. Take time for exploration. Revel in the natural beauty found around every bend.

Check into Fogo Island Inn, a traditional yet contemporary masterpiece of modern architecture and design. The Inn was named as Travel & Leisure’s Best Resort Hotel in Canada in 2017 and 2018, as well as the Top Hotel in Canada in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2017-2018.

LATE AFTERNOON Spend a few moments relaxing in your room.

When you’re ready, find your way down to the Lounge.

EVENING Dine on the fresh flavours and the bounty of

land and sea as supper is prepared by Fogo Island Inn’s Executive Chef Jonathan Gushue and his culinary team in the Inn’s Dining Room.

LATE EVENING Convene to the Cinema to watch Roy Ward

Baker’s 1958 British docu-drama, “A Night to Remember” portraying the Titanic’s fateful maiden voyage. The, tuck in for the night to the rumble of the tumultuous North Atlantic just beyond your window.

DAY 2 DAYBREAK Greet the sun as she rises and find a

handmade wooden Daybreak Tray outside your door filled with coffee, tea and fresh pastries. Linger.

MORNING Breakfast is served in the Dining Room at

your leisure. 10:00AM Meet your Community Host in the lobby for

your Island Orientation. Be prepared for fresh perspective and insights; stories and laughter during your half-day outing. Allow yourself to

be oriented to this “Salty Narnia” by the people of this place.

DINNER (LUNCH) Lunch is served at your leisure in the Dining

Room. AFTERNOON In the midst of, and enveloped by, one of the

world’s largest colonies of puffins and razorbills, surrounded by whales, while circumnavigating an iceberg, feel the marvels of nature during your half day excursion aboard the m/v Ketanja with Captain Ane and his crew.

SUPPER Return to the Inn and enjoy supper served in

the Dining Room, where the provenance of every menu is inspired by the seasonal taste of the outport terroir. Everything coming out of the kitchen is intended to feed more than your hunger.

EVENING View a screening of James Cameron’s epic,

romantic disatster film “Titanic” (1997) in the Cinema.

DAY 3 DAYBREAK Meet another day with your Daybreak Tray.

Ease into the morning gradually. MORNING Breakfast is served in the Dining Room. 10AM A morning of leisure. Admire views of the

wild North Atlantic from a rooftop hot tub, steam in the sauna with a vista over the community of Joe Batt's arm, or relax in the Lounge watching icebergs drift past the floor-to-ceiling windows.

DINNER (LUNCH) Lunch is a traditional island boil-up—a meal

cooked outdoors over an open fire that could include staples like salt cod, lassy bread, jam tarts, and strong tea.

AFTERNOON Hike up to Brimstone Head, considered to be

one of the four corners of the flat Earth. Your assent will unveil views of some of the most stunning vistas on Fogo Island, revealing the stark beauty and craggy outcroppings of our distinctive geology.

SUPPER Dine in our Inn’s award-winning Dining

Room. Here is where you will enjoy a contemporary take on Newfoundland cuisine, while waves crash on the shoreline just beyond your table setting.

EVENING After supper, relax in the Lounge enjoying

cocktails flavoured from the island’s many

varieties of edible berries and botanicals, sit by the fire and peruse the Inn’s extensive collection of Newfoundland literature in the heritage Library, or view the exhibit currently on display at the Fogo Island Gallery.

DAY 4 DAYBREAK Enjoy your departing Daybreak Tray from the

comfort of your room. Linger. MORNING Fortify yourself with a farewell breakfast in

the Dining Room.

Depart Fogo Island Inn for the journey homewards.
