Anti-Ageing Eye Treatment

£20

Beauty | SKIN

Yes, you are young and fresh faced now and we do hate to break it to you but

busy everyday life and those few too many late nights will, one of these days, start to take their toll!

So why not start now to prevent those fine lines, tired looking eyes and dark circles and try the SenSpa eye treatment for firmer skin and that ever-necessary energy boost. The Anti-Ageing Eye treatment that we offer at SenSpa is a fifteen minute therapy that can be added to any of our treatments, (no wrinkles required, but if you do have them they will respond beautifully).

The treatment consists of cleansing, manual lymphatic drainage movements to reduce puffiness around the eyes, a soothing mask and massage of the face and neck. The Living Nature Firming Eye cream used in the treatment promotes hydration with Harakeke Flax Gel, cell regeneration with Active Manuka Honey and Rosehip Oil; the treatment will leave you with noticeably firmer skin and feeling refreshed and revived.

Don’t be anti-ageingbe pro prevention

Eye treatments are not just for older skin; start younger and start natural and fend off the crow’s-feet for a little longer by opting to give your skin the well deserved TLC it needs and a certified organic skincare regime.

Beautify whilst you sleep!

Living Nature’s Radiance Night Oil rejuvenates and restores your skin; providing a well needed beauty boost.Made up of several oils, including Rose Oil to promote natural collagen production and Rosehip Oil to aid cell regeneration, this gorgeous product is the perfect serum to repair, regenerate and soothe your skin, and all whilst you sleep.

Gorgeously g l a m o r o u s summer legs will be yours at last!At SenSpa we hold the key to lusciously radiant and healthier looking skin; and the only way to prepare for the return of your summer wardrobe.

SenSpa’s Organic Body Polish contains Himalayan crystal rock salt, which is the purest salt on the earth and the weapon of choice against dull, neglected winter

skin. This unique crystal salt is not contaminated with toxins, yet contains all the trace elements which are found in the human body to remineralise and promote a healthy balance within the body.

This amazing salt will exfoliate and polish the skin, ridding it of the dead skin cells that tend to build up over time and make your skin look and feel dry and tired. Regular exfoliation will leave your skin feeling refreshed and radiant. For miraculous results; massage this exfoliator onto damp skin once a week. The Orange, Lime and Bergamot essential oils in this polish will deeply cleanse the pores, whilst the Rosemary stimulates blood circulation bringing fresh oxygen, nutrients, vitamins and minerals up to the skins surface leaving it feeling soft, supple and rejuvenated.

Without exfoliation dead skin

cells can build up and act as a barrier, restricting absorption of creams so a top tip is to apply a moisturiser after using the body polish, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the pores aiding hydration and a gorgeous glow.

The Beautifying Polish also contains SenSpa’s Uplifting Body Oil which has been specially designed to enhance the overall condition of the skin. Blending Evening Primrose and Crambe Seed Oil feeds the skin with essential nutrients, whilst Sunflower Oil aids the natural healing process and Sesame Oil reduces any inflammation. Combining these organic base oils with May Chang and Tea Tree essential oils provides the perfect mix to having bright, radiant and glowing skin.

Beauty | TIPS

With its immune s u p p o r t i n g properties, it is no

wonder why Manuka Honey is a star contender for top of the super food list; it promotes healthier digestion, contains active antioxidants and various vitamins and minerals.

Whilst it benefits the inside of our bodies, this champion natural product of New Zealand’s indigenous Manuka bushes works hard for our skin too.

Active Manuka Honey’s natural healing and antibacterial properties or ‘Unique Manuka Factor’ (UMF) make it the number one choice for skincare. It is high in antibacterial activity, which can be used to treat acne prone skin and its antioxidants help to neutralise skin damaging free radicals. It is an ideal ingredient

for soothing sensitive skin and is also a natural humectant, drawing moisture from the air and locking it in for improved hydration and suppleness.

Manuka Honey can be used to fight the signs of ageing too, with its healing properties supporting the skin’s production of collagen, a protein that gives our skin its elasticity and firmness.

At SenSpa we use certified organic Living Nature products containing Active Manuka Honey as a key ingredient across the range. Most of the facials incorporate these Manuka Honey based products which are also combined with other skin beautifying ingredients like Harakeke Flax Oil and Rosehip Oil to naturally firm and refresh the skin.

Chilly temperatures are leaving our lips looking in a very sorry state of late, so it’s a great time to treat yourself to a super moisturising lip balm. Living Nature’s soothing Manuka Honey and Shea Butter delight is great for boosting hydration and nourishing chapped lips and it will also help prevent further damage. What’s more, Erin O’Conner and Lizzy Jagger have both been spotted with it and, if it’s good enough to keep model pouts in shape, then that’s all we need to know! £8.15; www.livingnature.com

CHAPPED LIPS

Jennifer Aniston’s top beauty tip is ridiculously simple and it’s free! “I drink loads of water -

water, water, water! The one thing I notice in my skin is, if I stop drinking water, I dehydrate badly, water is important.” For hydrated, clearer and healthier skin simply aim to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.

Cameron Diaz uses powdered milk as a gentle yet effective exfoliator,

perfect for spot-prone skin. Use two teaspoons of powdered milk and gently rub in a circular motion all over a damp face and neck. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Extra tip: Try mixing 2 egg yolks, 1 cup of olive oil and 1 large banana together. Apply to the face and neck and leave for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

Julia Roberts soaks her nails in olive oil for 10 minutes a week to keep

them strong, moisturised and the cuticles soft. Simply add a few drops of olive oil to a bowl of warm water and soak hands for at least ten minutes. Remove, dry and then add a moisturiser to your hands and nails for extra hydration.

Beauty | HAIR

The Ayurvedic (pronounced A’yur•ve’dic) head massage will not only help to repair damaged hair, but is an effective aid for better sleep and

overall wellbeing. Whether your hair is over-treated, dry or just in need of a boost and some bounce the Ayurvedic Head Massage at SenSpa is the answer.

The techniques used stem from ancient Vedic times, with particular focus on the Marma points (or ‘energy points’) in the head. Most of 107 Marma points in the body can be located in the head and face, similar to those used in acupuncture, with many around the eyes and temples. Stimulating these points with touch promotes relaxation and has proven to ease tension, clear congestion in the head and increase circulation therefore helping to re-balance and restore energy throughout the body.

It is the organic, cold-pressed coconut oil that does wonders for your hair; improving condition by maintaining moisture, providing Vitamin-E to strengthen and even stimulating hair growth. With summer already here your hair will need all the hydration and nutrition it can get to stay strong and protected in the sunshine.

hair looks visibly shinier and healthy

To start the treatment, the warm coconut oil is poured onto the hair and then massaged thoroughly through, whilst your therapist concentrates on those soothing Marma points. The several techniques used will stimulate the scalp and gently release tension leaving you with only one challenge; to try to stay awake!

In just four treatments hair looks visibly shinier and healthy, is more manageable and as well as a beauty boost for the hair, the treatment has been proven to relieve headaches and mental stress.

Uniquely combining the heat from the volcanic basalt stones with long soothing massage and Thai techniques the Hot Stone Harmony provides

a deeply warming and nurturing treatment. The stones used are roughly 4 million years old, making them the oldest part of the Hot Stone Harmony treatment. Rocks from the earth’s core carry every memory of every event which has occurred throughout history and store electromagnetic energy. Throughout the years and amongst different cultures, many believe the stones have souls and spirits, which is why various stones have been and always will be used for worship, guidance and healing.

In Hot Stone therapy, volcanic basalt rock stones are used as they heat easily, retain this heat and release it slowly throughout the treatment.

Not only do the stones put their heat into the body, relaxing the muscles, they also pass on their own energy, balancing

all levels of emotional, mental and physical energy in your body. In SenSpa’s Hot Stone Harmony, 47 unique basalt stones are heated to a temperature of

120 to 150 degrees, these are natural pebbles from Mother Earth which come in all shapes and sizes. To the senses they feel smooth and refined.

To ensure the stones are at

their best at all times, they

need to be “re-

charged”. The best way to re-charge the stones is to get them out into the natural elements, from where they come, known as “home”. Once a month the stones are returned to the earth, just as we would go home to revitalise.

The Oriental elements included in SenSpa’s Hot Stone Harmony treatment, begin with Thailand’s ritual foot cleanse. Then the stones are pressed on the muscle allowing the heat to penetrate deep into the muscles, releasing tension. Thai palm pressures focusing on the meridian lines aid the flow of energy around the body. SenSpa’s hot stone harmony treatment finishes with Thailand’s ritual scalp massage. The entire treatment will leave you with a

deeper sensation of relaxation, health and overall well being.

Heat is a fantastic natural painkiller and when paired with ‘cold’ it can be a powerful combination. At SenSpa we offer the ultimate way to unwind and de-stress and treat aches and pains. Hydrotherapy (the application of hot and cold water) is a hugely effective treatment for pain. Warm water has a soothing effect on the muscles;

calming the nervous system, helping the release of our natural pain-busting endorphins therefore reducing pain, whilst cold water is a fantastic circulation booster and a great way to tone the body. There is only one thing to remember; always follow hot with cold to get the most out of your day of therapy.

Wellbeing | TRENDS

Gone are the days when Spas were considered the ‘woman’s’ get away. Men everywhere have discovered and accepted that relaxation and pampering does not

just belong to the opposite sex. Not only are men seeing the twinkling spa light, they have jumped on to the fabulous skincare train on its way to male grooming city.

In a survey of 1,000 UK men aged between 18 and 64 conducted by SPA Future Thinking, 64% revealed that using male grooming products improved self-esteem and confidence. With 40% claiming to have used moisturiser, lip balm and hand cream at some point and

surprisingly only 14% of men considered grooming a waste of time.

At SenSpa, news of the deeply relaxing Bao Jai Men’s Facial has spread fast. The facial, designed specifically for men, includes a warm Manuka Honey mask to exfoliate and purify the skin and then massage of the shoulders, hands and feet to relax and release tension.

After that treatment men certainly know what they have been missing so it is no wonder they soon test the grooming waters and discover that untidy cuticles are a thing of the past. Hand and foot grooming, man’s answer to the manicure and pedicure, is now the ‘cool’ thing to do and we love it. What’s not to love, at SenSpa you are unable to do anything but relax when being exfoliated, nourished and massaged, and all before your nails and cuticles are tidied and trimmed.

So bad news to ladies everywhere, the gents know where you go with the girls to escape (from them), and they want in!

How to... nail the perfect plank

Wellbeing | FITNESS FOCUS

1. You don’t know where to startGetting to grips with complex gym equipment as well as creating an exercise programme that includes the right amount of cardio, weight training and flexibility can be a daunting experience. Your personal trainer has the knowledge and experience to create a programme to suit you, ensuring better results.

2. You’re Not Seeing ResultsYour trainer will help you to set manageable goals which are a great way to track progress and achieve better results, steadily and safely. Whether your aim is to lose weight, train for an event or to build muscle. They can give you the boost you need and encouragement to improve and help you get into shape at a pace that suits you.

3. Bored of the Same Old WorkoutsIf you’re an experienced exerciser, maybe you haven’t considered

working with a personal trainer. However, it can be a great choice if you need some variety in your workouts. A trainer can bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to challenge both your body and your mind.

4. You Need to Be ChallengedIf you tend to slack off on your workouts sometimes, especially when things get tough. A trainer can motivate you to push past those self-imposed limits, encouraging you to lift heavier, go longer and challenge yourself more than you would on your own.

5. You Have a Specific Illness, Injury or ConditionIf you have any specific issues like arthritis, heart disease, old injuries, etc., working with an experienced trainer (who works with your doctor, of course) can help you find a program to help heal injuries and avoid any further problems.

Get Personal5

Strengthen your core and tone your abs by nailing the perfect plank. Our

fitness expert, Sean Hincks says that

“doing exercises as efficiently as possible will make your workout more effective and you will start to see results quicker”.Here are the 3 most important steps that you need to know to help you tone and tighten those abdominal muscles, correctly and safely.

When in the plank position:

1. Always keep the elbows positioned under the shoulders - placing them too far forward will leads to discomfort in the shoulders.

2. Make sure your body is making a straight line from the knees through the hips to the shoulders.

3. BREATHE! Most people have a tendency to hold their breath but this limits the amount of oxygen to the brain which can result in dizziness or fainting.

Next time you are at the supermarket don’t ignore the good old favourites,

the bananas and apples, they are just as ‘super’ as the blueberries and deserve another chance.

Actually, bananas are a fantastic source of energy, fibre and vitamin B6 as well as having more potassium than most fruits. And, a lot kinder to the pocket, than those foods deemed as ‘super’ like the infamous blueberry or goji berry.

Don’t forget some of the other humble fruits and vegetables on your quest to healthy eating, peas are fantastically nutritious being full of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. They are wonderfully versatile and can be a delicious addition to hundreds of recipes and they even taste fantastic on their own as a healthy lunch or snack.

Peas and beans are also a great source of fibre, as are: apples, oranges, spinach and carrots. Raw carrots are very nutritious and higher in vitamin A, calcium and iron than the blueberries’ ‘super’ friend the avocado.

Another forgotten veggie’ that has seen

prejudice is the cabbage. It is a fabulously inexpensive vegetable that is full of vitamins C, A, E and B, great for healthy skin, metabolism and the immune system as well as being high fibre and iron. But it seems to have been slumped with the brussel sprouts as a Sunday roast vegetable that you try to hide on your plate. We forget that there are many varieties and ways of preparing cabbage; red cabbage, for example, is fantastic in a salad; giving it a bit of colour, some crunch and extra nutrients.

Wellbeing | INTERVIEW

How did Japan inspire Nutrichef? When we returned to the UK I devised a meal plan that would incorporate the beneficial ingredients of the Japanese diet whilst keeping the characteristics of western taste intact. A large part of this inspiration was born from the fact that Japan has much lower levels of cancer, heart disease and obesity, with Japan topping the national longevity rankings whilst the UK is 20th on the list.I soon discovered that our clients enjoyed the new healthy meal plan but the problem of sourcing ingredients became an issue when simply providing them with a recipe, which is where the idea to prepare and deliver the meals came from.

How is Nutrichef different to other ‘diet plans’?Nutrichef is a very different concept to the ‘diet plans’ out there; there are no signs of a shake, a pouch or a packet (unless you are trying one of our delicious flap jacks). There is no need to count calories either because everything is done for you; with your meal being prepared and sent fresh or frozen to your door so there are no more wasted hours spent in the supermarket. Losing weight can

be easier with Nutrichef because you know you feel healthier, with food that will sustain you all day and fit in with even the busiest of lifestyles. In one month a Nutrichef meal plan will provide more than 180 different ingredients, with over 80 different fruit and vegetables, giving not ‘5-a-day but ’10-a-day’.

Why is the Nutrichef meal plan good for energy? The Nutrichef meal plan is excellent for people who would like to restore their energy levels, due to the combination of slow-release carbohydrates, proteins, fruits and vegetables as well as there being good quantities of antioxidant vitamins in all of the meals; all of which keep your energy levels sustained and balanced. Our Nutrichef meal plans can be devised to meet our client’s needs, whether

they require weight loss, support for an active lifestyle, or just a refreshed twist on vegetarian eating.

Why is Nutrichef dairy and wheat free? Two of our core principles at Nutrichef is to provide wheat and dairy free meals. The gluten from wheat can be difficult to digest and we can obtain calcium from plenty of other sources, like green vegetation, rather than from cow’s milk. Our clients have been pleasantly surprised at the results of opting for alternative

ingredients such as oats, soya, quinoa or rice. We suggest that eating vegetables like spinach, asparagus, peas and broccoli, our meals contain a broad variety of all of these, will give you all the calcium you need. As well as from, seeds, nuts and fish, which are also fantastic sources of calcium.

Vintageinspired swimwear

Vintage-style swimwear has a huge place in 2012. Many designers are infusing vintage-inspired details into modern pieces – a high-waist here, a vintage print there – and the results can be the perfect fusion of Marylin Monroe sex appeal and Grace Kelly elegance!.

Juicy Pear

Dark, plain bottoms will slim the bottom area whilst the patterned top accentuates the bust, drawing attention upwards and helping to balance out the bigger bottom half.

Bit of a Belly

Try a 1 piece swimsuit with a belt. Cinching your waist creates a foxy hourglass shape that distracts from other unflattering curves

1 Choose your garment, natural fabrics work best, wash and dry it first to get rid

of any impurities that may obstruct dying.

2 Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add washing soda to help lock in colour

and a pinch of salt (one cup of washing soda per gallon of water).

3 Now get creative! Tie rubber bands around parts of the garment, or

wherever you would like there to be a pattern. Be imaginative, you can do whatever you like!

4 Soak the garment in the bowl for 30 minutes and then remove and let dry

slightly whilst you prepare the dye.

5 Make up the dye mixture according to its own instructions,

6 When you are satisfied with your creation then put your garment in the

dye, the longer you leave it the darker and deeper the colour will be so adjust the timing to your preference.

7 Remove your creation from the dye, wrap in cling film and leave the dye to

set.

8 It is now time to remove the rubber bands and reveal your handiwork.

Rinse the garment with cold water until it runs clear. You can now wash it in the washing machine (on its own for the first

couple of washes).

‘Thai’ DYE

Tie Dye is back and it’s big for Summer 2012! We love this season’s mouth-watering pastels mixed with one-of-a-kind tie dye but what we love even more is being green and saving the
