The first hybrid vehicle sophisticated enough to wear the

Cadillac wreath and crest, Escalade Hybrid represents

a remarkable technological achievement. Its powertrain

includes a 332-horsepower Vortec 6.0-litre V8 engine w ith

Late Intake Valve Closing (LIVC), a 300-volt nickel-metal

hydride Energy Storage System (ESS) and an advanced

Electronically Variable Transmission (EVT). Not only is

this powertrain capable of powering Escalade Hybrid at

low speeds on electricity alone, it maximizes efficiency at

higher speeds by allowing the gasoline engine to operate

for long periods in fuel-saving four-cylinder mode. Theres

also a regenerative braking system that captures the

energy produced in braking so it can be used later to help

re-accelerate the vehicle. Even Escalade Hybrids electric

power steering system helps reduce fuel consumption.

It eliminates the energy-draining belts and hydraulic

fluids normally found in conventional steering systems.

As power demands increase, the electric motors and engine may

operate simultaneously to provide added performance. The additional

torque provided by the electric motors also allows earlier engagement

of the Active Fuel Management system which deactivates 4 of the

engines cylinders, giving you even better fuel efficiency.

actually be more efficient than operating in gasoline-electric hybrid

mode. When such a situation arises, Escalade Hybrids electronic Hybrid
