Dear Friends,

This is the shortest the Fourth Sunday of Advent can possibly be. Within twenty-four hours the Church will be celebrating Christmas and the birth of our Lord. It is tempting to overlook the Fourth Week of Advent this year. It seems insignificant in that it consists only of Christmas Eve, and in fact is easily overshadowed by Christmas. So too did Mary seem like an insignificant woman and Bethlehem like an insignificant town. But we know that God places value in what seems to us as insignificant. Our scriptures today revealed the familiar story of the angel Gabriel announcing to Mary that she will conceive and bear the Son of God. What an unbelievable message this must have been! She was seemingly just an ordinary young woman, not even married, not even having relations with a man. As a Jewish woman, she would have been praying for the coming of the Messiah; now she is told she would be giving birth to him. But like David in the Old Testament, she accepts the role God has for her – “May it be done to me according to your word.”

This afternoon we begin the liturgies for Christmas. The Vigil Masses will be in the church and hall at 4PM, in the church only for 6PM and 8PM. On Christmas Day, Masses will be celebrated in church at 7AM, 9AM and 11AM. During this week we will be celebrating only one Mass each day at 9AM in church. Because of the holidays, the parish office will be closed on Tuesday, December 26 but will reopen on Wednesday through Friday from 9AM until 12 Noon. This will allow the parish staff to enjoy time with their families and friends. However, for emergencies either Father Biedrzycki or I will be available to the parish. We, too, want to spend some time with our family and friends.

During this time of year we welcome all of our visitors to Saint Robert’s and welcome home all of our young people who have been away from the community because of various obligations. It is so wonderful to see so many gather to celebrate this sacred and joyful season with us! Welcome, one and all!

Be assured of a remembrance at Mass on Christmas!

May you experience the joy, peace and love of this holy season! May you make time to create memories and enjoy the company of your family and all your loved loves!

Saint Robert Bellarmine, inspire us to works for the greater glory of God!

With prayers,

Mrs. Barbara Palo (Director of Teen Ministry–[email protected])● Facebook: St. Rober t Teen Ministry Program

The Teen Ministry wishes you a Blessed & Merry

Christmas!!!

A Christmas meditation by the holy crib. She adored Him, took Him up in her arms, wrapped Him up in poor swaddling bands and pressed Him to her heart. Then seeing the crib or manger, from which the cattle were wont to feed, she laid Him in it on a little straw. And from that stable which sheltered Him, from that crib which served Him as a cradle, from that straw on which He lay, and which pained His tender body, the Infant Redeemer offered to

the divine Majesty His very first sufferings and humiliations. Kneeling near Him, their eyes bathed in tears, Mary and Joseph united themselves to His sacrifice. Other News: Our thanks to Maria Bongarzone for the invitation to sing Christmas carols at Solana nursing home. The residents shook their maraca’s and even sang some karaoke right along with us. A wonderful experience for all! They insisted on a picture in front of the new unit tree and decorations

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Samuel 7:1-5,8b-12,14a,16; Romans 16:25-27; Luke 1:26-38

Today, we read about Mary being surprised by God and submitting to

his plan for her life. How has God surprised you? Have you welcomed

this surprise with faith in his plan or clung to your own way?

Suggestion: Use the decorations of the season to focu s your family on the true meaning of Christmas. Lights

symbolize Jesus, the light of the world, the tree recalls the Cross, which is our tree of life, and gifts remind us

of God’s gift to us in Jesus. All together they fill us with joy!!

Is there someone you can invite back to the Church this Christmas? They may just be

waiting for that personal invitation from you. Here are a few websites that may assist

you or to share with others: www.catholicscomehome.org, www.bustedhalo.com (great for

teens and young adults!), or www.loyolapress.org.

Invite them to check out the parish! Tell them how you love our Catholic Faith...tell them

you are confident that a Catholic life is a beautiful life (tell them why you feel that way)!

Be sure to let them know that here at St. Robert Bellarmine ,we would love to have them visit!

www.strobertwarrington.org

Blessing of the Family Christmas Manger or Nativity Scene

Have a family member read the Gospel, Luke 2:1-8

Then say the following BLESSING:

God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have

made manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great you sent your

Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives he brings joy and peace, justice,

mercy, and love.

Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth

of Jesus, and raise our thoughts to him, who is God-with-us and Savior of all, and who lives and

reigns forever and ever.

ALL: Amen. (If you do this on Christmas Eve, add the Baby Jesus)

From Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers

A Reflection from CHRIST IN THE MANGER rom Sr. Charlene Diorka, SSJ (presenter for Advent by Candlelight)

Christ covers his divine nature with our human nature so that we can see and experience what our God

is really like, so that we can become more and more like him.

How willing am I to carve out a place for Christ in my stony heart?

Do I allow God to come into the silent night of my soul?

How am I preparing the manger of my heart to accept my Savior on Christmas Day?

THE CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL FOR 2017 - YEAR-END GIVING “GIVING HOPE TO ALL” There are many incredible programs that benefit from the 2017 Catholic Charities Appeal. When you support the CCA you are: Helping a child with special

needs attend one of the four Catholic Schools of Special Education

Providing a hot meal for a family in need Supporting services for veterans and their

families Providing a safe haven for a woman and her

children With many deserving beneficiaries of the appeal, your donation – no matter how large or small – can make a huge impact. As the 2017 CCA campaign is drawing to a close, make these last few days of December count. If you have not already done so, please make a donation to the Catholic Charities Appeal. Charitable donations are a great way to reduce your tax burden for the year, all while doing something for the benefit of others. Visit www.catholiccharitiesappeal.org to make your contribution or place it in the collection basket.

A very gracious thank you to all those that have supported this campaign. The CCA does make a difference, for the better, in people’s lives. As of mid-December we are currently at the 171% mark of our $71,901 goal with $123,281 from 542 contributors out of approximately 2,300 families in our Parish.
