Who won?

For many years, Elementary School sports days resonated with this rhetoric, as students jostled to be the fastest and strongest in a variety of ac vi es. It was clear to all and sundry who the ‘winners’ were and who the ‘losers’ were. Just like in mathema cs, where we know children at a young age can begin to develop very ‘fixed’ mindsets about their abili es, so too can this occur in the area of physical educa on. There is no evidence that highly compe ve sports programs in Elementary School lead to more successful outcomes in Middle and High school. What we do know is that a broad, skill base in a mul tude of sports, coupled with developing a ‘growth’ mindset and a en on to the skill learning ‘process’ will develop more successful student athletes. Equally, a posi ve a tude towards physical ac vity ensures that this becomes part of your life, rather than something you do to ’win’.

Next Friday at our Elementary Sports Day, you will see our students being physically ac ve for the en re day. There will be a targeted focus on inclusion for all and developing a life‐long posi ve a tude to physical ac vity. Sportsmanship will be at the center of everything, with students seeing the value on par cipa on for enjoyment rather than winning. We look forward to welcoming you for the day and joining in the fun. Our Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 opening ceremony is at 8:15 am in the Middle School Gymnasium and our Grade 2, 3, and 4 ceremony is at 7:40 am at the same venue.

If you lose your campus card, report it immediately to the Security Office so they can block your card from being used. If it is not returned and you are required to get a new one, don’t worry about your account balance because it remains intact in the system and will s ll reflect once you get a new card. SCHOOL PHOTO SHOOT FOR RETAKES AND NEW STUDENTS

22 February 2016, Monday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Rm. 1123 Changing Room The photographer will be on campus on February 22, Monday. Students who were not able to have their school photo taken last October and November and those who wish to have retakes done may do so on this day. There will be no retakes for group photos (class picture, class funny pose, class group hug).

For NEW STUDENTS who came in after the November photo shoot, an order sheet will be sent home with your child on Friday, February 19, with instructions on how you may order your child’s photo. All photo orders made during this time will be delivered by June 3 the latest.

Parents are welcome to be with their child during the photo shoot.

From the ATAC Office Last Saturday our MS Girls gold basketball team won 3rd place in the local league with a default win over Faith Academy who cancelled the game late Friday evening. Our MS Boys gold basketball team won their semi final Saturday morning but lost a tough final vs DLSZ by 9 pts. Well done MS boys Gold for a successful season placing 2nd in the local league compe on. JV boys basketball finished their season with a win to take the 3rd place trophy. Congratula ons to players and coaches.

This weekend a group of our gymnasts and their families along with 3 ISM coaches will be heading to Bangkok to compete at the ISB meet. We have a empted to get to this meet the past couple of years but have not been able to make it happen due to circumstances beyond our control so we hope our group of gymnasts will have a great weekend at the Bangkok meet.

Our ISM climbing team returned from a successful 2 day outdoor climbing adventure in Cebu It was a safe trip with a few scrapes and bruises but a great me was had by all. A big thanks to Coach Jeremy for arranging this annual outdoor climbing opportunity for our Bearcats climbing enthusiasts.

A busy day on campus tomorrow with the ISM Chess invita onal at the ES cafeteria along with our first track meet of the year star ng at 8am. Good luck to our MS Green Girls, Boys and Grey Tennis teams who all play in semi or finals tomorrow at our tennis courts. The girls team play CSA in the final at 1pm and the boys teams play Ateneo and CSA at 8am in the semi finals and if they win will then play the final at 1pm. Good luck to all our MS tennis players.

Season 3 (S3) tryouts concluded last week. S3 prac ce schedule is posted on no ce boards and on ATAC blog schedules page. This week MS co‐ed so ball club started on Thursday, see Mr. Saint or Mr. Cargile if you are interested and a er CWW Ms V's mixed touch season will start with tryouts on Feb 22 and 24.

Due to MS CWW next week there will not be any ATAC or AFAC a er school programs Feb 15‐19. Programs will resume from Feb 22.

ATAC S3 sports for MS are Badminton, Track&Field, Mixed Touch and Co‐ed So ball. For HS S3 sports are Golf, Track&Field, So ball and Badminton.

All HS seasonal teams prac ce from 3:05‐ 4:50pm each day. MS seasonal teams prac ce 3:15‐4:45pm. In order to clear the campus prior to 5pm all a er school programs will conclude by 4:50pm or earlier. The last bus is 4:55pm this is due to the ever increasing traffic concerns in our area.

Don't forget to refresh the pdf page each me it opens so you access the most current schedule. Please note this schedule does change o en and at short no ce due to involvement with many local schools and organiza ons.

Check it regularly for the most up to date informa on. For security purposes....access to the ATAC game schedule pdf must be linked via the secure parent portal and details should not be shared with non ISM community members.

A few reminders from Operations and Security Access and parking within the campus are important security and safety issues. For the well‐being of all members of the ISM community, those entering the school campus are requested to take note of the informa on and procedures outlined below. Vehicular Access During drop‐off and pick‐up mes, vehicles may enter the campus through Gates 2 and 3. Those entering through Gate 2 should proceed to the drop off area and, once the student has alighted or boarded, they should exit via Gate 1. Those vehicles entering through Gate 3 must turn into the covered parking area and use the designated drop‐off areas. All vehicles must exit through Gate 1. Please note that Gate 2 may only be used by those drivers and passengers who have an ISM ID card and who are in a vehicle displaying a valid ISM vehicle s cker. Alterna vely, vehicles entering through Gate 3 may park in the covered car park. The spaces reserved for parent‐driven cars should only be used by those vehicles which are driven by parents themselves. Vehicles in which parents are traveling, but which are driven by a driver, should not use these spaces. Rather, they should park elsewhere in the covered car park or make use of the outside spaces next to the power center. Visitors to ISM must enter through Gate 3. There is an area for short‐stay visitor parking near Gate 1. The Pedestrian Gate The pedestrian gate is located in the perimeter fence mid‐way between Gate 1 and Gate 2. There is a paved area between the road and the perimeter fence, allowing easy access to the gate. The pedestrian gate is solely for the entry of members of the ISM Community at the beginning of the school day. It will only be open between 7:00 am and 7:45 am (8:00 am to 8:45 am on Wednesdays). Due to parking restric ons, and in the interests of security, it will not be open in the a ernoon for pick‐ups. During the me it is open, it will be under the supervision of members of the ISM Guard Force. Drivers should stop adjacent to the paved area and students should alight from the right side of their vehicle. The driver should then move off, clearing the space for other vehicles dropping off students. Under no circumstances should a student be dropped off from the middle lane. This is dangerous as the student would need to walk in front of another vehicle. Drivers are reminded that traffic regula ons forbid parking on the roads around ISM. Therefore, vehicles should only be stopping for the brief me it takes for a student to alight. Drivers must not wait for anybody to return to the vehicle. ID Cards ID cards should be worn at all mes while on campus. If you have not been issued an ID card, or you have lost it, you should obtain one by visi ng the security office and comple ng the appropriate applica on form. Vehicle Checks The prac ce of inspec ng vehicles will con nue. During off‐peak hours, all vehicles will be checked before they are allowed to enter the campus. During peak hours (drop off and pick‐up mes), all vehicles without valid s ckers and randomly selected vehicles with s ckers will be asked to undergo an examina on. Whether an examina on is conducted or not, it is important that the security staff at the gates are able to iden fy the occupants of vehicles entering the campus; therefore IDs must be clearly displayed. Vehicles with nted windows must roll down windows to allow a clear view of the interior of the vehicle.

Drivers, Helpers and Bodyguards Drivers, helpers and bodyguards should not wait on campus for students throughout the school day. A er dropping off students they should exit the school grounds and not return earlier than 30 minutes before dismissal me. Those who repeatedly fail to comply with the regula on will have their access privilege suspended. Only those vehicles carrying parents or other people with business within the school will be allowed to return to the campus before the scheduled pick‐up me. There are designated areas for unaccompanied drivers, yayas, helpers and security escorts to wait for parents and students. Unless specifically authorized, they may not enter any other area. In the interest of security, and to prevent conges on at the pedestrian entrances to the covered parking area, parents are requested to emphasize to their employees the importance of coopera ng with the security staff and remaining in the appropriate areas. Termina on of Employment In the event of the termina on of service of a family employee, parents are asked to secure the former employee’s ISM ID card and return it to the Security office. If this is not possible, it is important that the Security Office is s ll informed of the change of circumstances. Firearms All members of the ISM community are reminded that it is strictly forbidden for firearms to be brought onto the campus. This includes concealed weapons carried by bodyguards for close protec on. Any person arriving at the school with a firearm should inform the gate guard, and arrangements will be made for the weapon to be safely and securely stored during the visitor’s stay. Security Staff Direc ons Our security team is endeavoring to make the school as safe and secure an environment as possible for all members of our community. We ask that everybody cooperate with us in this important task. In par cular, all those entering our campus are requested to comply with any direc ons given to them by members of our guard force. If you are confused or unclear as to the purpose of such instruc ons, please seek clarifica on from the security office. Please note that it is the parents’ responsibility to advise their staff accordingly. Thank you for your coopera on. We are looking forward to another great year at Interna onal School Manila.
