Laws change over time and vary from place to place. Marriage laws have changed recently. Some states have legalized marijuana even though federal law prohibits it. The speed limit in White Bluff is 30 mph but on I40 it is 70 mph. On some Texas roads the limit is 80 mph. Different laws but the same principle which is public safety. Even when laws vary or change, the principle stays the same. God has changed law for man through the patriarchal, Mosaic and Christian dispensations. However, God’s principles did not change because God’s nature does not change. James wrote, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17) The shadows cast by the sun vary and change from morning to evening but the light from God is constant and unchanging. The Bible reveals God’s nature and principles which have remained constant from the beginning. There are common principles throughout all dispensations. God has always required worship and worship of Him only. Sin has always required sacrifice. The taking of human life has always been prohibited. The list goes on and on. Each dispensation’s laws were based on principles related to the nature of God. From Adam until the death of Christ, atonement for sin required animal sacrifice. In the current age, there are no more sacrifices because Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God. “But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.” (Hebrews 10:12) The law changed but the principle is the same. In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7, Jesus explains the principles behind the law. The Jews had been taught the law without the principle. This leads to a form or appearance of godliness but without substance. Paul warns of this in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Hosea 6:6 reads, “For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” Going through the motions (keeping the thou shaltand thou shalt not) while neglecting the principle is empty and useless. Let us learn and live the principles God gives us in the Bible. ~ Jay Wilkins ~ Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God’s best gifts. It involves many things, but above all, the power of going out of one’s self, and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another. Some Things Never Change … … but some things do. Laws change over time and vary from

states have legalized marijuana even though federal law

prohibits it. The speed limit in White Bluff is 30 mph but on

I40 it is 70 mph. On some Texas roads the limit is 80 mph.

Different laws but the same principle which is public safety.

Even when laws vary or change, the principle stays the same.

God has changed law for man through the patriarchal, Mosaic
