Research and Development at the heart of PTC
Since its foundation in 1928, beginning with the invention of the poker vibrator, PTC has specialized in developing
vibration techniques.
PTC’s innovations have played an important role in the development of the Vibrodrivers: it was the rst company
to launch the hydraulic Vibrodrivers in the early seventies, the rst to introduce the high frequency Vibrodrivers
and as well the inventor of the high frequency Vibrodrivers with controlled variable amplitude. In early days, PTC
research studies aiming to reduce the impact of piling techniques on the environment, have resulted
in several new patents :
• The Vibmaster, a monitoring system that controls vibration and soil particle velocity,
and also registers multiple driving parameters.
• The Ecomode, an electronic module included in PTC power packs that reduces fuel consumption
and reduces exhaust emissions to the environment.
Valuable synergies among the FAYAT group
In 2004 PTC joined the FAYAT Group, the world leader in compaction equipment
and France’s leading family-owned construction business (No. 1 in steel works and
4 th biggest building and public works company) . FAYAT’s industrial activities position it as
a full liner in road-building equipment. The company’s designing and manufacturing
businesses also apply to handling and hoisting equipment and pressure vessels, where
60% of the products are sold in other countries.
Present in all 5 continents, the 118 FAYAT group companies employed more than
17000 people and achieved a turn over of 2.7 MM € in 2010.
Synergies among the Fayat group strengthen PTC’s possibility to offer an even larger
range of services and solutions. PTC and JOSEPH PARIS, a Fayat company recognised
for its lifting equipment and offshore structures for pipe line works, are working
together to propose integrated solutions in offshore projects.

Pile driving and pile extraction
PTC vibrodrivers are capable of vibrating large diameter piles through vertical vibrations, which are produced
by the eccentrics located in the vibrator’s gearbox. These vibrations cause the adjacent ground to shift reducing
the friction between the soil and the pile. Thus allowing a fast and easy penetration.
Vibrodrivers can also extract piles using the same principle, via the pulling force of the Vibrator and the crane.
Extraction works do not require any additionnal modication in the equipment.
The vibrations generated by the Vibrodriver are transmitted to the pile through the clamp, which plays the key role
of connecting the Vibrodriver and the pile.
GEAR
The eccentrics mounted in the gear box
are ordered in pairs. Each eccentric pair
turns at the same angular velocity and in
opposite direction, hence producing a vertical
vibration. Both eccentrics generate centrifugal
forces fc . The horizontal components fh
are offset at the same time that the vertical
components fv are added, resulting in
centrifugal force Fc . The eccentric moment
and the centrifulgal force are fundamental
Vibrodriver’s parameters that determine
the Vibrodriver performance.
YKE
Contains high absorption elastomers,
which are the result of PTC research
to reduce vibratory emissions to
the crane and the environment.
Vibratory pile driving is based on the principle of reducing
the friction between the soil and the pile through vibration.

PER PACKS
Hydraulic power packs supply
the energy required by the Vibrodriver.
CLAMPS
The link between the Vibrodriver and the pile.
The clamp grabs and secures the pile during
the handling and driving phases. Several clamps
and customised clamping accesories are developed
by PTC to allow perfect adaptation to all types of piles.
PILE
A wide variety of piles can be driven by the Vibrodriver:
• Large diameter piles
• Anchor piles
• Dolphin piles
• Mooring piles
• Offshore wind turbine foundations: tripods, jackets, monopiles

Under water piling
PTC Vibrodrivers can work to a depth of 100 m providing the same
pile driving performance.
Standard Vibrodrivers can work up to 15 m depth without any pressurisation system.
Vibrators working under water are equipped with a special pressurisation system
designed by PTC for under water piling works.
Pile extraction
The strong line pull of PTC Vibrodrivers allows,
efcient pile extraction works and accurate pile positioning.
Harbour and bridge jobsites often need to begin using the Vibrator to extract from
water the old structures, before starting the new foundations.
For both jobs, extraction and pile driving, PTC Vibrodrivers have proven for years to be
highly productive.
An accurate and precise pile positioning is another advantage of the Vibrodrivers.
The driving angle can be corrected at any time to guarantee perfect compliance
to the jobsite requirements.
Multiple piling possibilities to adapt to the diversity of technical demands
and extreme weather conditions encountered in offshore applications.

Raked piles
PTC Vibrodrivers can drive piles up to a rake of 1:1 (45°).
Standard PTC Vibrodrivers can drive piles up to a rake of 15° without any modication.
Vibrodrivers needing to drive piles up to a rake of 1:1 are equiped with a special technology
developped by PTC for raked piles.
Tandem Vibrators
An alternative solution to increase power
and performance.
• Enables bigger pile diameter.
• Two-in-one vibrators.

Customised clamps
To adapt to any size and type of pile.
1 - Pile layed on the barge. The Vibrator is shifted towards the pile
and the clamps are fastened, securing the pile.
2 - The crane starts to lift the Vibrodriver and the pile.
Safety is ensured with a gripper at the swiveling point.
Thus, the pile can’t slide during lifting.
3 - The pile is vertical.
The gripper can be released and the pile moved
to the driving position.

Energy-friendly hydraulic power packs that reduce
the C2
footprint and offer great modularity.
CO2
footprint
PTC power packs running with the patented Ecomode system (standard in 900CO and optional in 1200C)
provide the same Vibrodriver performance but consuming less fuel.
Thanks to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption, the polluting gas emissions are as well reduced up to 20%.
The use of Biodegradable oil is an option available for all PTC Power Packs. We highly recomend its use to protect
the faune and ore around the job site.
Both the Ecomode and the Biodegradable oil, positively impact in the reduction of the CO2
footprint of the jobsite.
