VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Questions to discuss with your child(ren)

Why was the boy so upset in the video? What do you think he should have done?

How did the girl show loyalty? What would you do in this situation?

Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club The Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club is an exciting part of Read To Succeed, a free educational program designed to enhance language arts curriculum. Students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade are eligible to participate in this free program. All they have to do is complete at least six hours of recreational reading! Each student who accomplishes this goal is eligible to receive one free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags theme parks. Reading for school or for homework assignments doesn’t count, but most other reading does. The reading log were handed out in January. You must hand the reading log to your teacher by Friday, February 13, 2015. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. The tickets are valid for admission on selected dates at the park. The dates will be printed on the tickets. Lost, stolen or damaged tickets cannot be replaced. The tickets will be sent home in the report card envelope with the final report card. Don’t miss out! Encourage your child to read for fun and reward them for their efforts! If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Grover. OZZIE READING CLUB Erickson School will participate in the Ozzie Reading Club. The Club is a reading incentive program that awards students with a free ticket to a Kane County Cougar game as well as food vouchers for “hitting a home run by reading.” In order to qualify students in grades three through five must read, take accelerated reader tests, and earn at total of 20 accelerated reader points during the eight week program. Students in second grade must pass a total of 16 accelerated reader tests to qualify for the free ticket. The Ozzie Reading Club will start the week of January 19th. Each classroom has an Ozzie Reading Chart and classroom teachers will be posting the Ozzie Reading Club points once a week. The Club will run until March 20th. All students who earn the required number of points or tests passed will be given a voucher to mail in for the free ticket and food coupons. If you have any questions please contact Dr. Niemiec at 529-2223. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on February 18, 2015. Grades 1-5 will be in school this day until 1:40. P.M. Kindergarten classes will meet at their regular times. This second Parent-Teacher conference is not mandatory. Teachers will request conferences by notifying you by email, phone, or through a request form

Pre-School Screening

Bloomingdale School District 13 164 S. Euclid Ave.

Bloomingdale, IL 60108 630-671-5036

Pre-school Screening will be conducted in School District 13 throughout the school year for all children between the ages of 2.9 and 5 years old. The purpose of this screening is to identify pre-school children who may have potential difficulties when they enter the school setting. This screening assesses gross and fine motor skills, speech and language skills, social – emotional skills, and vision and hearing skills.

If you have a child of pre-school age and live within the District 13 boundaries, please call the District 13 Special Education office at 630-671-5036 to learn more about this free screening process.

If you know of a family with a pre-school child who may not receive this information, please share it with them. Our goal is to have all pre-school children participate in this screening. Research shows early intervention is important in helping children progress and achieve their potential. Please take advantage of this important service! Sincerely, Samia Hefferan

Special Education Coordinator
