Concepto The concept for this project is an advanced directory kiosk

that would be located within large retail store chains and grocery store chains such as Walmart and Home Depot

o The kiosks would provide detailed and easy to follow directions to products as well as product information for consumers

o The purpose of the kiosks would be to help consumers locate a minimal amount of items

o These would be items that they are either having difficulty finding within the store, would find difficult to locate within the store (e.g. batteries)

The User

o Users would have an educational background that would enable them to successfully read and comprehend basic interactive interfaces, as well as consumers with a general aptitude for technology

o Usability would not depend on race, gender, income level, location of residence, or marital status of users

o Users are in need of this type of product because it would provide them with help when trying to locate products from within large retail or grocery store chains

User Goalso The main goal for the user would be to acquire information,

which includes obtaining factual, up to date, and accurate visual representations of products

o Another goal for the user would entail having the capability to compare the prices of different products

o An additional goal would be for the user to be provided with accurate information as expeditiously as possible

o In addition, users would want the option of taking the information that they have acquired with them, in the form of printed materials

o Users would want the information they receive to lead to the successful acquisition of their chosen products within a 10 minute time frame 5

Her family owns one Dell desktop computer equipped with Windows XP and a DSL Internet connection and one Dell notebook with a wireless Internet connection.

Grace represents the least intellectually developed of our users. While her knowledge of technology is adequate, her intellectual level would be the lowest level for which the kiosk software would have to be designed for. It would need to be easy to navigate as well as entertaining enough to maintain the attention span of a child.

How Goals Will Be Met

o The aforementioned goals for each user would be met through the use of kiosks which would enable them to key in a product or brand name using the touchpad keyboard on the kiosk monitor

Information Architecture MapThis section of the structure uses Linear mapping because the information is presented in a straight line, one screen after another.

This branching style was chosen to ensure that the user would follow the steps in an order that would provide maximum efficiency and understanding. This would also be beneficial for the customer service department because they would be able to navigate through each of the user’s previous pages in succession to find out exactly where an error occurred.

This section uses Hierarchal mapping

because the user is provided with multiple

levels of interactivity and information and the

Home page is accessible from the Finished Printing

page.

Hierarchal branching was chosen for the

Finished Printing Page and Home Page so that

the user could immediately start over

and not have to use the back buttons to go

through each of the previous pages.
