Italian newspapers are very poetic (at least as translated by “Babel Fish”):

"the black cloud of the bitterness still has not     been dissolved on the small forest in which     they are dipped the candid buildings of the CERN"

“Lyn Evans, head of the plan, support that it was better to wait for before igniting themachine and making the verifications of the parts.“*

Or you can Google “What really happened at CERN”:

Tunnel secure, and safety systems up and running Crew went in today for first inspection of interconnect at

“ground zero”. No details yet

Level of visible damage not clear Still no pictures released, but those that have seen them

describe them as “dramatic”. Estimates are that “on the order of a dozen” magnets will

need to be replaced: Unconfirmed Lyn Evans quote: “8 dipoles and 4 quadrupoles”.

Big questions: Why didn’t quench protection system work? What went wrong with the pressure relief system? Is there a simple fix to make it work in the future?

Assuming the answer to the third question is yes, the current schedule for beam is May 1 or June 1, 2009 If the answer is no, it’s too early to come up with a schedule.
