100% Ergonomics. 100% Mountain Biking.

Designed from the ground up, Ergon’s ergonomically optimized Mountain Bike Saddle combines high performance and fit in a previously unobtainable way. A 3D saddle shell - innovative ‘hollows’ in the shell - allow for considerably more damping material in the seat bone areas, than any other saddle in this category.

1: Ultra-thin, flex optimized carbon or GFK saddle shell with isolated rear mounting rails for added flex. 2: Innovative, multi-layered cushioning with progressive damping. Tuned damping correlates with saddle width / use. 3: Nose mounted micro damper. 4: Saddle nose underside rubber cushion for shouldering the bike. 5: Chaff-reducing silicon coating on Pro and Carbon Pro models. 6: Optional standard rails, or Monolink® rail system (patent pending) allowing for maximum adjustment. All SM3 saddles are designed and engineered in Germany and manufactured by hand by Selle Italia in Italy.

Which is the correct saddle width?Scientific studies have concluded that in order for a saddle to be comfortable, it must match the individual sit bone width of the rider. This distance however changes depending on the angle at which the rider’s upper body is at. If the rider sits upright on the saddle, it is the rear parts of the sit bones which take their weight. As the rider leans more forward, then the point of the sit bone which makes contact rolls forwards. As the pelvis is also V formed towards the front, the contact area on the saddle needs to be large enough to provide comfort in different sitting positions. Ergon saddles are designed around the male pelvis form. For riders with a sit bone width of 10 - 13 cm we suggest size S, and for those with a sit bone distance of 12 - 15 cm we suggest L. There is some cross over, so we suggest test riding where possible.

State of the Art Saddle Development The Ergon Product Development Department utilized state of the art simulations, construction methods and analysis in the development of the SM3. For example when creating the Ultra-thin saddle shell, FEM analysis was fundamental in mapping the load and stress areas. The shape of the saddle from top to bottom was defined in the Ergon Ergonomics Laboratory using a multitude of pressure sensing equipment combined with real world experience on test rides. With this, many iterations lead to the final shape.

Optimized power transfer, foot position, leg motion with normal shoes - PC2.

Dr. Kim TofauteSports Ergonomist

“From an ergonomic perspective pedals should not be overlooked for achieving optimized fit for bike and rider. Pedals are the point where muscle power is transferred to the bike, and therefore correct positioning of the foot and the leg is essential. Additionally incorrectly positioned feet and legs are the cause of knee complaints, so getting this right improves comfort as well as efficiency. The Ergon PC2 Contour Pedal uniquely addresses all of these factors with its contoured platform, inner-stop guide and narrow q-factor.”

Oversized integrated reflectors.Development partner: Busch & Müller, Germany

Superlight pedal body made from high performanceGF-Composite. Development Partner: Magura, Germany.

Ultra-Narrow axle constructions reduces Q-Factor, and is biomechanically more efficient.

Maintenance free polymer bearings with radial seals. Development partner: Igus®, Germany.

Inner-stop for intuitively correct foot positioning on the pedal.

Anatomically contoured platform, 6° angle for better joint allignment, varus (knee) angle correction. Optimizes the biomechanics of the leg (hip-knee-foot). Increases efficiency, minimizes knee complaints and hot spots / numbness in the feet.

3M-SafetyWalk™ creates a slip free platform and increases power transfer.

Dramatically increased contact area between shoe and pedal – increases power transfer and energy efficiency, reduces concentrated pressure points on the feet.

The PC2 redefined the market for touring / commuting / everyday pedals. The PC2 Evo takes this one step further. Using lightweight materials, such as a carbon composite pedal body, and hollow mat chromed axle, the weight has further reduced. Other high end details are the CNC machined aluminium axle cap, and white integrated reflectors* for increased visibility.

A more efficient pedal. Ergon introduces the first flat pedal (or Contour Pedal as we call it) to provide an ergonomic and positive connection between bike and user. The first pedal designed with biomechanics and correct foot position in mind. Advantages are increased power transfer, more control and fewer hot spots and knee complaints. The Ergon PC2 is the first non SPD-type pedal constructed with the ergonomic biomechanical demands of the user as a priority. 480 100 00 PC2-S (Pair)480 100 10 PC2-L (Pair)

no loss in power. The first ever tool for simple yet precise Installation of cleats on cycling shoes.

The critical interface. The energy that goes into cycling is transferred via the pedal, shoe and cleat. Ergonomics in this area plays a massive role. Without an ergonomic setup power and performance will be lost. Comfort will be compromised. Injury could result. Correctly installed cleats are noticeable from the first ride. The Ergon TP1 allows the accurate adjustment of the three axis which are important when installing cleats. The fore/aft position, the stance (Q-Factor) and the foot angle. It is simple, fast and effective.

The tool is completed by a small handbook. This is a guide to basic ergonomics of the foot and leg, the biomechanic consequences and a simple step by step manual for using the TP1. For expert users information is provided about maximising performance. The tool is a favourite of Pro road and MTBers.

There aren’t many real Legends in the MTB scene, but Dave Wiens is one of the few. For over 20 years he has raced against, and quite often beaten the best in the World. A career that has seen him as the US National Champion twice, he has managed as well as raced for teams. His status was officially recognised in 2002 with his admission to the “Mountain Bike Hall of Fame”.

In 2009 the score was settled as Dave fought to win his seventh Leadville 100, against amongst others, Lance Armstrong (who he had beaten in 2008). Finishing second to Lance though is something only Alberto Contador can better! With Wiens’ experience his input to Ergon cannot be quantified.

Performance Comfort

Problem: Carpal tunnel syndrome

Solution: Ergon Grip

Problem: Ulna nerve irritation

Solution:Ergon Grip

Ergon GP and GS grips prevent numb fingers, painful hands and forearms – problems that many riders face. The cause of this is high pressure on the particularly sensitive areas of the palm and an incorrect hand position. Due to their anatomically optimal design, Ergon grips provide a contact surface of 100%. Regular grips only provide a contact surface of approximately 60%. With increased contact surface, pressure is especially reduced in the area of

the ulna nerve, thus decreasing the likelihood of numbness. Furthermore, the anatomic form of the Ergon Performance and Race Series grips corrects your hand position. An incorrect hand position and overloading of the median nerve (a leading cause of carpal tunnel syndrome) are impossible as long as the grip is mounted correctly.

The Size Difference. As hand size is different from person to person, Ergon manufactures theGP and GS ranges in two sizes - Small and Large. This difference is in the diameter of the grip. The reason for this is that a larger hand is better able to grip a larger grip with less stress and effort. This is the same in

reverse for small grip. A smaller hand needs a smaller grip to allow the hand to close around it. Of course, this is all also down to personal preference. More information is available online at:www.ergon-bike.com

New: Grip Compound - Made in GermanyErgon’s product development team doesn’t only focus on Ergonomics - material research is also a core theme. The demands and testing our products undergo meet those of the automotive industry, and far exceed the industry standard. Ergonomics, Product Design and Engineering - everything is done in-house in Germany. It is from this that successful projects have been born, such as our GreenLab initiative, which explores the use of sustainable materials. For 2011 we quietly introduced what is a major milestone in our development. All grips in the Performance Comfort Series were switched to a new rubber compound. As part of this process 39 rubber compounds were developed and tested. It was worth it, the new material - made in Germany - meets the highest standards, is longer lasting and worldwide is exclusive to Ergon for the bicycle industry.

• Developed and Manufactured in Germany• Extremely high UV resistance - corresponds to automotive standards• Contaminant Free - Only medically approved ‘white oil’ used in production• All raw materials meet the standards set for use in food production - EU (2002/72/EG)• All raw materials meet the purity standards of European Resolution AP(89)1• Free of PAK - no Phthalates used in production• SGS TÜV certification (raw material safety certification)• Highest quality standard within the bicycle industry

Performance ComfortThe GP1 BioKork provides ultimate ergonomics for the hand just as the rest of Ergon’s Performance Comfort series do, however the unique qualities of cork means that it is now antibacterial and hypoallergenic. Cork’s natural damping qualities also make it an ideal grip material, and its now density mean the resulting grip is a lot lighter. The GP1 BioKork uses 40% cork, sourced from sustainable forests in Portugal which is certified for its ecologically sound production. This ecological theme is continued throughout the rest of the grip. The inner core is plastic reinforced using natural fibre, which make up 40% of its mass. In place of mineral oil, the gel in the palm section of the grip is vegetable oil based. The clamp can also be 100% recycled. It is all a result of Ergon’s “GreenLab” initiative.

Ergon’s GreenLab initiative is about combining the core principles ofergonomics and performance with ecologically aware practices.

Introduced in 2010, and for 2011, the GreenLab initiative has played animportant role in the Ergon Development Department and the resultsof that can be seen starting with the innovations in the last two years.Ergon’s extensive grip assortment is now presented with completelyreworked and re-invented packaging. This uses as little material aspossible to achieve our aims, and much of the material used is recycled.

The sustainability of the packaging was a key factor, and that thepackaging can be recycled after use, and uses as few components aspossible, a priority – minimising the environmental impact. The result ofthis new packaging quest is so innovative that it has already won thecoveted German DesignPlus packaging prize. Further examples are theGP1 BioKork, GP3 BioKork and the GP5 BioKork grips. Once again, it is Ergon setting the standards using the most innovative materials and technology to achieve our aims.

“Performance and style are the be all and end all. The GA1 Evo ticks these boxes. Excellent grip and absolutely bombproof on the bars. Arm pump is a thing of the past, no matter how many runs I do.”

Richie Schley

“Ergon grips are simply better. The external clamp communicates the precise location of the end of the bars. The ergonomic shape and feel is superb. Try them, find out yourself.”

Downhill, Freeride, 4-Cross, Dirt, Enduro. Ergon searches out some of the best riders in every discipline to assist with product development. Technical riding experts, downhillers, 4-cross riders and mountain bike legends. Their feedback is extremely important and flows into the products.

Timo Pritzel

“The more difficult the trick, the more important it is that the grips give you total feedback. They communicate the bike to you, and allow you to control it. Also, when you bottom out the suspension (which you will!) the ergonomic form of Ergon’s GA1 Evo dissipates the shocks efficiently. Add to that the colors, and why would you use anything else?”
