She is the agony aunt for manybruised souls in Chennai. No mat-ter how serious the problem is, alistener can pour out his heart to

her. With no identity other than hervoice, Ragasiya Snegidhi (meaning se-cret friend) is as popular as any other RJin town. But now, to the surprise of hermany fans, this week the RJ is finallyrevealing her name on the show, airing

between 9 p.m. to midnight.Hosting the showRagasiyamaion BigFM for the past two years, this bubbly RJsays the USP of the programme wasconcealing her name. But now I feel itstime to reveal my name.

The idea behind concealing myname was that no one would like to re-veal their sorrows or feelings of guilt toanyone, including their friends. So wethought that instead of making themtalk to a popular RJ it would be better ifthey talk to someone whose identitythey dont know. That really workedwell and we started receiving around

100 calls per day. Now we have com-pleted two years successfully. So itstime for the listeners to know my identi-ty and there are other surprises, too.

While starting the show, it was reallydifficult for me to handle the callers. Butnow I am used to it and know how totackle them and their problems, shesays. Most of the callers have problemsin their love lives. Misunderstandings, silly fights and even possessivenessmight be the reasons for the feud. I al-ways sound positive and try to make

them understand the situations. Ex-treme cases like extra-marital affairs,

The Satyam imbroglio hasbeen hogging the limelight

for the last fortnight on everynewspaper, television chan-

nel and website worth its salt. Weare not going to discuss or analysethe aftermath of the episode forthe company and its employees, but rather look at Corporate Go-vernance and what it means to usindividuals and its effect on yourmoney.

Corporate governance literallymeans how a corporate is go-verned. That is: the set of rules, processes, policies, ethics, stan-dards, reports and internal laws by

which the day-to-day running ofany company are dictated. It is alsothe link for the stake holders of acompany. They include individu-

als/organisations that are affecteddirectly or indirectly by the activ-ities of the company, such as sha-reholders, directors, employees, customers, suppliers, lenders, go-vernment and the general public.

Effect on our investmentsAs investors, most of our invest-

ments are directly or indirectlychannelled into the stock markets,

which is nothing but investing into various organisations. Depend-ing on the visible and self-reportedactivities of these organisations thestake holders take multipledecisions.

For example, a fund managermight increase his investment ex-

posure, a supplier might extendhigher credit, a lender may lendhigher amount and potential em-ployees would be willing to joinand so on.

If an organisation is transparentand follows ethical corporate go-vernance at all times, the stake hol-ders can benefit from its growth. But they could also hurt them-selves if the company or its em-ployees behave contrary to theirown set standards.

And each one of us is respon-sible for maintaining corporate go-vernance standards of theorganisation we are associated

    with.

Indian author Aravind Adigasdebut novel, The White Tiger,

which went on to win theprestigious Booker prize in

2008, has raised hackles in Nepalover what is being regarded as thebelittling stereotyping of Nepalis.

Many English-educated urbanIndians have a distorted view ofNepalis, said an article in theKathmandu Post daily on Sun-day, calling the novel shockingand blatantly representing Ne-palis.

The author of the article, Dee-pak Adhikari, objects to the factthat though the novel has severalNepali characters, all of them re-main nameless and marginalised.

They are also stereotyped neg-atively, portrayed either as slant-eyed Nepali security guards ofno consequence or Chinese-eyed prostitutes.

As the novel begins to unfold, the protagonist Balram Halwai is

taken to a brothel that housesfour light-skinned Nepali wom-en in gorgeous red petticoats.

The same imagery of Nepaliwomen as prostitutes is rein-

forced at the end of the novel when Halwai visits anotherbrothel in New Delhi and is toldby the pimp that he looks as if hecan afford a Nepali beauty.

Halwai finds the Nepali in-mates really good-looking: very

light-skinned and with those Chi-nese eyes that just drives us Indi-an men mad.

Adhikari says many urban Indi-ans think Nepalis are modern-day slaves women languishingin brothels and youths keepingvigil... While conceding that Ne-pali women are trafficked to Indiaand unemployed men cross theborder in search of jobs, Adhikarisays it is an attack on the Nepaliidentity to present them asnameless generic specimens.

Granted, a novel is a work ofimagination, he says. But whena novel gets a prestigious award,it climbs further up on the be-stseller list. And readers may

come to identify Nepali men with wily security guards and Nepali women with those who sell sexfor livelihood.

A difference of opinion overthe financial settlements between the two partiesmay see the Kolkata team playing a few of theirhome matches at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttackand also possibly far away from home in Gujarat. After inspecting facilities in Cuttack, Knight Ridersofficials are also in talks with Gujarat CricketAssociation president N. There is a lot ofenthusiasm here about cricket and our stadiums arealso of international standards, Amin said. Wehave already approached the Rajasthan Royals toplay a few of their home matches here and theirofficials came and inspected the venue and facilitiesoffered.

Meanwhile, the CAB seemed not to be perturbedby the current development and presidentJagmohan Dalmiya feigned ignorance and said: Ihave no knowledge about it. The former BCCI andICC president had a marathon meeting with KKRtop official Jay Mehta last week to sort out thedifferences. But according to CAB sources the association hasresigned to the fact that some matches will beshifted out of Eden Gardens and Barabati is thelikely replacement.

There is no possibility of a shift in venue for the Commonwealth Games andthere is no reason to do it. I dont know why this issue comes up. There

should not be one percent of doubt about Delhi staging the Games.Lalit Bhanot, general secretary of the Delhi Commonwealth Games organising committee about speculations of the Games being moved

from Delhi to Melbourne because of slow construction work in Games sites

Mens tennis has moved swiftlyfrom one dominant player totwo, then the Big Three andnow the Big Four, making this

years Australian Open the least pre-dictable in recent history. World num-ber one Rafael Nadal is seeded top,Novak Djokovic is defending championbut Britains Andy Murray is some boo-kies favourite, rankling three-time win-ner Roger Federer.

Murrays the favourite? Good forhim, but it doesnt help him a lot, saidthe Swiss. Federer heads into the sea-sons opening Grand Slam without thetop seeding for the first time since 2004but encouraged by his US Open win inSeptember. The Swiss also lifted theKooyong Classic trophy on Saturday ashe goes in search of Grand Slam titlenumber 14, which would equal the rec-ord set by Pete Sampras. Im playing

well, Im feeling well, he said. Its go-ing to be interesting. I think its an in-

teresting year ahead of us. Thats whyIm excited.

    Young Brit

However, Federer has already losttwice this year to Murray, whose red-hot form is raising genuine hopes thathe may be about to end Britains 73-

year wait for a Grand Slam title. Murrayhas also smashed past Nadal and de-fended his Qatar Open title in a rip-roaring start to the year after dominat-ing the latter part of last season. Imgoing into each match confident, not asmany nerves, Murray said. In the pastIve been a little bit erratic with my per-formances. I feel like now Ive sort ofbecome more consistent. Thats made abig difference.

Murrays physical fragility may be a worry in the 128-man draw, oftenplayed in brutal heat, after a back prob-lem flared during the Doha semis. He

was also a first-round loser last year to

eventual runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.I feel good going into the AustralianOpen but after what happened last yearI dont want to get too carried away, he

    said.

MatadorMeanwhile, Nadal has made a slow

start to the only season he has begun asworld number one, going down to thein-form Gael Monfils in Doha after hisloss to Murray at an exhibition event. The Spaniard, who took an extendedbreak at the end of last year with chron-ic knee tendinitis, admits he is lackingmatch practice as he looks to improveon last years semi-final appearance. You never know, no? Hopefully yes,he said, when asked if he was ready forthe Open. But I was two months out ofcompetition, so maybe I need a fewmore matches to get my rhythm.

Djokovic is breathing down Federersneck for the second ranking but also

has made an unedifying start to the sea-son. The Serb blamed a change of rac-quet after losing to Ernests Gulbis inDoha, and was then ousted in the Syd-

ney International semis by FinlandsJarkko Nieminen. (My games) not 100percent, but its getting there, Djokov-ic said. Sixth-ranked Tsonga dazzledMelbourne with his run to the final last

year, but his build-up has been hit by aback injury which forced him out of theSydney International. Czech player Ra-dek Stepanek is buoyed by his BrisbaneInternational win over Spaniard Fer-nando Verdasco, while Marin Cilic wasvictorious in Chennai and ex-numberone Lleyton Hewitt may be a dangerousfloater on home soil. Federer opens hiscampaign on Monday against AndreasSeppi while Djokovic is playing AndreaStoppini. On Tuesday, Nadal facesChristophe Rochus and Murray plays

Why wont the tale of apotbellied chef whotakes on the evil kung fuexploiter, and wins, not

appeal! No, were not talkingKung Fu Panda. After that hea-dache-inducing Salaam Na-maste, Nikhil Advani returns todirect some mindless, action-packed fun and comes up with a

winner in Chandni Chowk to Chi-na, Warner Bros Bollywood fo-ray.

    Sidhu (Akshay Kumar) is a dis-satisfied vegetable-cutter in a

roadside restaurant in DelhisChandni Chowk who takes hischance with every astrologer andlottery ticket. Mithun Chakrabor-ty (as Dada, who else) is his men-tor whos brought him up and

who repeatedly keeps stressing tohim the power of fist over palm. Agreedy astrologer who calls him-self Chopstick (Ranvir Shorey)makes Sidhu believe that richesawait him if he accompanies twovisiting Chinese men to theircountry, conveniently ignoringthe need to warn him that theChinese villagers see Sidhu as areincarnation of an ancient heroand expect him to rid them ofdiamond smuggler Hojo (Gordon

Liu), whos been exploiting them.Sidhu goes to China and dis-covers Chopsticks trickery, butonly after Hojo learns the truthand then leaves Sidhu for dead. The action man in Sidhu, expect-edly, soon awakens with a littlehelp from the right sources. Toput it another way, Sidhu be-comes Akshay Kumar.

Akshay Kumar is brilliant, es-pecially as the simpleton duringthe first half of the film, beforethe transformation happens. Thechildren, especially, will love him.

The revelation, however, isDeepika Padukone in a doublerole as Sakhi and Meow. She per-forms her stunts with the easeand confidence of a Lara Croftand, at the same time, is good

with the song-and-dance.The action is larger-than

and completely unimaginbut thoroughly entertaining. else would you explain S

whipping up a semi-tsunami the power of his cosmic suteven churning a tornado by sning two hapless goons likmerry-go-round! Its the kinfunny action that you woueven see in a Jackie Chan mSidhus cooking skills proveultimate weapon, too.

The setting of the Chineselage, beside the films leads cacterisation, gives you a stsense of dj vu, as if yo
