Equivalent RatiosHow to Determine and Find Equivalent Ratios

(Click click) In this section, you will learn what equivalent ratios are and how to find them. 1Equivalent RatiosRatios are considered equivalent if they represent the same quantities. For example,

2 treats: 1 dog = 4 treats: 2 dogs

You multiplied the numbers in the first ratio by 2. If you perform an operation on one number, you have to do the same to the other number and vice versa.

(Click click) Ratios are considered to be equivalent if they represent the same quantities. For example, (click) 2 treats to 1 dog is equal to 4 treats to 2 dogs. (click) You multiplied the numbers in the first ratio by 2. If you perform an operation on one number, you have to do the same operation to the other number. 2You can also reduce ratios to make them equivalent.

40 dogs 8 dogs ---------- = ------------20 water bowls4 water bowls

You divided each number on the top and bottom by 5, keeping the ratios equivalent. You can only use multiplication and division, never addition and subtraction!!!

(Click) You can also reduce ratios to make them equivalent. For example, (click) 40 dogs to 20 water bowls can be reduced to 8 dogs to 4 water bowls and be equivalent. (Click) You divided each number on the top and bottom by 5, keeping the ratios equivalent. You can only use multiplication and division with equivalent ratios, NEVER addition or subtraction. 3Ready to try some on your own?
