    To all whom these presents shall come Greeting whereas by an Inquisitionindented and taken on the eighth day of July 1930 before Brigadier-General John Tyson Wigan companion of our most honourable order of theBath -- Companion of our most distinguished order of St Michael and StGeorge Companion of Distinguished Service Order Sheriff of our saidCounty by virtue of our writ of ad quod domnum issued out of and returnedinto the Central office of our Supreme Court of Judicature and filed thereinit has been found upon the oath of honest and lawful jurors in our saidCounty that it will not be to the damage or prejudice of us or any otherperson or persons if we should grant unto Ernest James Wythes his heirsand the signs Licence to hold and keep a Market in the Town of Epping

    on Monday of each week in every year in perpetuity instead of Thursday orFriday in each week and whereas by his humble petition the said ErnestJames Wythes of Copped Hall Epping in our said County (hereinaftercalled the petitioner) has represented unto us that Royal Predecessor Hislate Majesty King Henry the Third by letters patent bearing the date the30th day of March in the 37th year of his reign granted and confirmed tothe Abbott and Canons of the Church of the Holy Cross of Waltham andtheir successors for ever the rights of holding one market every week onMonday at the Epping Heath in our said County that our RoyalPredecessor Her late majesty Queen Elizabeth by letters patent dated the

    24th day of January in the 17th year of her reign granted to ThomasHeneage and his wife right to hold enjoy and keep within the Manor ofEpping aforesaid one Market on Friday for ever that our RoyalPredecessor his late majesty King Charles II by letters patent dated the17th day of October in the 23rd year of his reign granted to Thomas Greythe right of holding one market on every Thursday in every week yearly atEpping aforesaid. That the market rights were included in the purchase ofthe Copped Hall Estate Essex in the year 1870 by the PetitionersGrandfather the late George Wythes and that the Petitioner is the presentestate owner of the said market rights. That the petitioner has not been

    able to ascertain that the said market within the memory of living personshas ever been held on Thursday but that from the best of his knowledgeand belief the said Market was duly held from the time of the said grant ofher late Majesty Queen Elizabeth till about the year 1918 on one day inevery week. That about the year 1918 during the War the day for holdingthe said Market was without our Licence changed to a Monday and hasfrom that time until now been held on that day. That Monday is a more

    convenient day day for holding the said Market and is the only day of theweek in which a Market is not held in some other Town within a radius of17 miles from the Town of Epping And the Petitioner has therefore mosthumbly prayed that we would be graciously pleased to grant Our RoyalLicence and Permission to him and his successors forever to have holdand keep his said Market at Epping aforesaid in each week of the year onMonday instead of Thursday or Friday together with tolls stallage piccagewith all liberties and free customs appertaining to the said Market AndWhereas We having taken the said Petition into Our Royal Considerationare graciously pleased to comply with the of the said Petition. NowTherefore Know Ye that We of our especial Grace certain knowledge andmere motion do grant unto the said Ernest James Wythes Our RoyalPermission and Licence that he shall and may have hold and keep aMarket in the Town of Epping in our County of Essex on Monday in each

    week of every year instead of a Thursday or Friday. Together with tollsstallage and piccage and with all liberties and free customs appertaining tothe said Market which was formerly held on Thursday or Friday. To havehold and keep the same unto the said Ernest James Wythes his heirs andassigns for ever without interruption or impediment of Us Our heirs orsuccessors or any others whatsoever. In witness whereof we have causedthese our letters to be made Patent. Witness ourself at Westminster the16th day of September in the 21st year of Our Reign.
