SENIOR WARDEN REPORT
November 7th, 2017
1. Attendance on this beautiful Sunday
morning was 71. After the service and
coffee in the Parish Hall we enjoyed a good
“stump the priest” session.
2. Total deposit today was $8,412.00. Plate and
Pledge was $7,816.00. EXCELLENT
stewardship. Thank you for continuing to
honor your pledge. We strive to continue to
do God’s work every week.
3. Plate and Pledge: for the year is
$151,246.50. We are now only $22,741.50
from reaching the budget Plate and Pledge
budget. You are doing a magnificent job of
maintaining your pledging. I really, truly
believe that we will achieve our goal. Many
are saying we can’t. I believe we can! I am
so proud to have be your Senior Warden for
almost two years. Thank you for your
support, trust, and kindness.
4. Playground: Jeff has set the corner posts in
cement, set the line posts this week, and set

up the fence. He will need some help
stretching and attaching the fence. Men,
please call or email to let me know when
there is someone to help Jeff. (We, the
congregation, really do not know how much
Jeff does for Redeemer. When you see him
on the grounds, or at Wednesday Night
Café, or at Sunday service, please tell him
thank you for all that he does.) I cannot do
much in the way of physical things because
my right hand is not yet strong enough for
strenuous physical activity. Pulling a metal
fence is not yet possible. Soon, but not yet.
5. Pledges: less than 1/2 of the pledge cards, 37
to be exact, have been turned in thus far.
Please mail in your pledge card by next
Sunday, or drop it in the collection basket
next Sunday. If you did not receive a card,
please call the office on Tuesday morning
and let Lois Bolter know that you need a
Pledge Card. There are Pledge Cards
available on the table in front of the
Sanctuary doors in the Narthex.
6. Vestry Nominations: The time to sign up for
one of the three available open positions is
now closed. Nominations were called for
from the floor Sunday. No new names were
put forward. We have three candidates that
will now go through the candidacy process.
Their names will be announced in two
weeks, after the Vestry meeting. NOTE: all
Vestry meetings are open to all members of
the congregation. The Vestry meets on the
2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. The
meeting will last an hour to one and a half
hours max.
7. SPECIAL MUSIC NEXT SUNDAY: a
second JAZZ service!!! The saxophonist,
Rebecca Barry, and guitarist, Josh Titford,
will be back again. You will NOT want to
miss next Sunday. I wish our Bishop,
Russell, would be visiting Redeemer to hear
this service.
8. Food Pantry: the food pantry needs items on
the list. If you do not have the list, please
contact Sue Rollins. The Blessing Boxes are
being used by people who need a little extra
assistance.
9. Grounds Work Party: the grounds need
some attention, especially the Azalea
bushes, the Labyrinth, a second drain line
installed, and the Interment Garden grass
cut. This will be announced in the next few
weeks.
10. Please remember in prayer: John Yates, who
had his heart valve repaired; Buck Scott who
had an electrical device, a burst stimulator,
surgically implanted in his back to control
headaches and other issues; Mary Jo Howes
as she continues her amazing recovery; and

Will English as he has heart surgery next
week as well.
Scrip reminder: the Christmas gift giving season is right around the corner, and there will only be one more scrip order placed before then. As an added bonus, low denomination gift cards are available for a limited time from the following retailers: Amazon.com ($10), Barnes & Noble ($5), CVS ($10), Darden Restaurants - Olive Garden, Longhorn ($10), Home Depot ($10), IHOP ($10), Panera Bread ($5), Starbucks ($5), Target ($10), WalMart ($10). If you are interested in purchasing any of the special low denomination cards (great for small stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, mailman gifts, etc.), it is recommended that you do so in the November order, since they tend to run out of them. A complete list of retailers can be found at shopwithscrip.com, or you can pick up a local order form in the church office. Contact Lella Lowe for more information, or email her with your order, at [email protected].
College Care Packages
We will collect items for exam care packages for our college students during the month of November. The kids love receiving items that "help them study," such as popcorn, snack bars, candy, mints, gum, hot cocoa packets, pens, markers, highlighters,

We will meet at the usual times on Wednesday to prepare, serve and wash up, and dessert donations will be appreciated. In case any of you managed to miss this, we received a vast amount of media coverage this past week. First, Michelle Matthews (Irvin) wrote a beautiful article about the café, which she posted to al.com. I had asked her to write an article for the Coastline (the diocesan newsletter), but she decided that her al.com readers would enjoy it, too. Fox 10 News reporters saw the al.com story, and they decided to show up early for dinner on Wednesday, since they were on that side of town, to see if they could film a story. The result is pretty neat. Links to both the al.com story and the TV spot are below.

With all of this publicity, I am not at all sure how many folks to plan for. The beef stew meal is an expensive one to prepare, but we can always freeze and sell leftovers...so will try to have enough for all who show up! I hope to see most of you on Wednesday! The Artists’ Place Gallery
A Cornucopia of Art During the month of November, the Artists' Place Gallery at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer will be exhibiting the works of Anne Brooks, Gail Bramer, Catherine Kiser and Nancy Milford.
All artists are members of the Coastal Alabama Botanical Artists Circle but will have a variety of subject matters from botanical to wildlife -and even some small sculptures -Just as life on the coast is a
balance of a variety of systems so is our show! Come enjoy a Cornucopia of Art.
The exhibit will be on display from November 4 through December 30 and may be viewed, by appointment, by contacting Rob Bearden at 251-767-8362.
Please join us on Sunday, November 12 from 3:00 until 5:00 for a meet-the-artists reception and viewing in honor of Anne, Gail, Catherine and Nancy.
Around the Diocese
The 47th Annual Convention of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast will be held Thursday, February 22 to Saturday, November 24 at St. Andrew's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Destin, Florida. Lay delegates are canonically required to be elected by December 24, 2017 (60 days prior to Convention) in order to have vote at Convention. (If you are interested in attending, please nominate yourself or have someone else nominate you at our parish meeting. We are always looking for people who are interested in attending.)
It’s that time of year again! Delicious offerings from St. Andrews.
