We are excited to share with you our new theme for 2017-2018: Imitate & Replicate. We chose these two key words because Mission Hills Church is all about Transforming Lives. Through discipleship, evangelism, and worship, we are committed to being women who love and follow Jesus and make disciples – disciples making disciples. We are thrilled to have you join us on the journey.

Our offerings this year include a wide assortment of Women’s Bible Studies, MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers), support groups, service opportunities, Girlfriend Clubs, and a special Christmas event featuring a nationally known author and speaker, Lisa Harper, worship led by Shannon Wexelberg, and an International Christmas Shoppe.

We enthusiastically invite you to be a part of Women’s Ministry at Mission Hills. It’s going to be a fabulous year!

BIBLE STUDIES

Our theme of Imitate and Replicate fits perfectly with our Women’s Bible Studies. These groups provide a place to grow in relationship with God, enjoy a small group setting, and make friends, as we are discipled. Our hope is that women will, in turn, become disciplers of women who God brings into their lives.

God’s word is relevant for our lives today. Our faith in trials is strengthened by time in the Word. Our hope is found, not in earthly things, but in Jesus alone. It is through the Word of God that our relationships are built. God is transforming us for His service and for His glory.

We have designed our studies to meet a wide variety of needs, offering daytime and evening studies. Our studies run during the school year, September through April. New women are encouraged to join anytime throughout the year, based on space availability.

Most groups are 15-18 women and all meet at the church. Each small group will have social activities, such as luncheons, and one service project during the year.

While some studies are year-long, others are a collection of several studies during the year. We encourage women to sign up for a group and stay with the same women throughout the year to build friendships and community.

Simplify the process by first choosing your level of intensity, then choose the day of the week that works best for your schedule. We believe that no matter where you are on your faith journey, each study will challenge you and help you fortify your faith.

Childcare is complimentary, by reservation, and is available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings to enable moms with young children to get away and be encouraged in their faith journey.

We have a wonderful kids’ program, featuring Bible stories, crafts, snacks, and play time. Infant and toddler care is also available. Offerings are taken to help with our childcare cost. Please see the mid-week childcare guidelines at the end of this book for more information.

If you have questions about our Women’s Bible Studies or you would like assistance in determining which study is best for you, please email Tracy Carlson at [email protected]. We’d love to help you find the best fit for you.

Starting Point is a conversational environment where women

can explore faith and experience community. The conversation guide provides us with thought-provoking discussion questions to explore key foundations of the Christian faith. Each week will focus on a different foundational principle of Christianity. We will have an opportunity to share from our own personal experiences, study associated Bible passages on the topic and look at tough questions for tension with the topic. Starting Point is for Seekers (those who are curious about God, Jesus, the Bible or Christianity; Starters (those who have just begun a relationship with Jesus Christ); and Returners (those who may have some church experience but have been away for a while.

The city of ancient Corinth was much like our own modern day cities – a melting pot of cultural experiences to be had, along with the pitfalls of spiritual depravity. Paul wrote to the church of God in Corinth, showing God’s church is meant to thrive in any city and every circumstance which we encounter. Paul’s letter is as timely as ever. Explore the anchoring truths of bearing treasures in jars of clay, meeting Christ, opening wide your heart in the midst of hurtful relationships, and learning what it means to embrace the lost and lonely as ministers of the new covenant. Because of Jesus the old has gone; the new has come.

GOSPEL OF MARK | Lisa HarperTuesdays, September 12 - October 24 | 9:30 - 11:30 AMTuesdays, September 12 - October 24 | 7:00 - 8:45 PMIncludes DVD teaching.

God’s heart is moved by your cries for help, your shouts for joy, and your unspoken worries. We know Him to be a God of unparalleled power and authority, but Mark’s account of Jesus paints Him as a deeply personal and intimate God too. In this study, you will follow Jesus through His days of early ministry all the way to the cross. It’s there you will discover what it means to be the recipients of His excessive compassion and the very reason for His all-consuming passion.

HEBREWS // The Nearness of King Jesus | Lisa HarperTuesdays, February 20 - April 17 | 7:00 - 8:45 PMIncludes DVD teaching.

The book of Hebrews highlights two contrasting realities; Jesus is supreme yet approachable. Without losing an ounce of depth, Lisa makes Hebrews accessible too. Jesus is an up-close Redeemer. This study will help you engage and treasure the Book of Hebrews as you draw near to the approachable Savior.

SHE READS TRUTH-PSALMS OF GRATITUDE

Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible WilliamsThursdays, November 9 – 16 | 9:30 - 11:30 AM

Prepare your heart for the Thanksgiving season in this two-session study of Psalms of Gratitude. Each day you will read a Psalm to focus your heart on the many blessings God has given you.

STEADFAST LOVE | Lauren ChandlerTuesdays, February 20 - April 17 | 9:30 - 11:30 AMThursdays, January 18 - March 1 | 9:30 - 11:30 AM

There are times when worship overflows effortlessly from a heart full of gratitude and praise. And there are times when God seems far and we feel we have nothing to offer. Throughout it all, God shows us His steadfast love. Lauren Chandler uses Psalm 107 to show us how to face each season of life with courage and trust in Jesus, and to discover how tests in your journey of faith reveal the true condition of your heart.

WHAT LOVE IS, THE LETTERS OF 1,2,3 JOHN | Kelly MinterThursdays, March 8 - May 3 | 9:30 - 11:30 AM

The Letters of 1,2,3 John define love in the person of Jesus and call us to love like He loved. John anchors us with truth in a culture that has lost its way. He separates light from darkness, offers community for loneliness, and rest for our striving. Throughout his letters, John gives us the ultimate gift of assurance: we can know that we know Jesus.

THE DANIEL PRAYER // Prayer That Moves Heaven and Changes NationsAnne Graham Lotz, followed by Joy of Living Bible Studies, commentaries by Ray C. Stedman

Begin the year with the study by Anne Graham Lotz, a wonderful discovery of prayer that really works. What’s the secret to renewing your own relationship with God? It’s prayer. It is prayer that storms the gates of Heaven until things change. It is passionate, heartfelt, and it’s not letting go until you get an answer.

DANIEL, Joy of Living, rounds out the remainder of the school year with two parts: part one on Daniel’s life and part two on the prophecies of Daniel. Study questions and a written commentary make up this Bible study. DVDs for Anne Graham Lotz’ portion of the study.

Dr. Luke continues from his gospel to his second account called Acts, or Acts of the Apostles, mostly Peter and Paul. From Christ’s ascension to the Father to the empowering of the Holy Spirit, see how the early believers took the gospel from Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and beyond. Watch the church grow spiritually, numerically, geographically, and culturally. From this example, learn how you can experience the power of God through salvation and apply it in your everyday life.

PRECEPT UPON PRECEPT - COLOSSIANS | Kay ArthurThursdays, February 15 - April 26 | 9:30-11:45 AM

What does it mean to be “complete in Christ”? Is Christ really your “all in all”? Does He meet all your needs? This small epistle written by Paul while he was in prison offers much on the supremacy of Christ, the sufficiency in Christ, and concludes with rich rules for holy living.

GLOBAL OUTREACHTRANSFORMING LIVES PERIOD.

One of our focus areas in outreach at Mission Hills Church is to help women in need. Women’s Ministry is excited to answer God’s call to do just that with exciting opportunities to minister around the world through short term mission trips.

Around the world, women have many things in common. Perhaps you’re not sure what you could offer; however, anyone can be used by God to minister to others. These short term trips will challenge and bless you, and you will return transformed in some way. Our God is a big God, and He does amazing work on each trip.

2018 will feature several women’s opportunities. Watch for details in the November Missions booklet.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another and all the more as you see the day approaching. HEBREWS 10:24-25 (NIV)

Girlfriends Clubs are designed to help women of all ages connect with one another through interest-based groups called G-Clubs. Investing yourself and your time in one of these groups creates new friendships and strengthens existing ones. Each G-Club meets once a month for a time of fun and connecting with others. While having fun with the girls, each group also gives back to the community by choosing different service projects.

We also make time for praying, sharing, sewing, teaching and reaching out to our community with the love that we have been blessed to receive from our Lord. For our service project, we sew garments for those in need for mission trips.

LISA HARPER //

Rarely are the terms hilarious storyteller and theological scholar used in the same sentence, much less used to describe the same person but then again, Lisa Harper is anything but stereotypical! She is a gifted communicator, whose writing and speaking overflow with colorful pop culture references that connect the dots between the Bible era and modern life. Her style combines sound scriptural exposition with easy-to-relate-to anecdotes and comedic wit.

SHANNON WEXELBERG //

POLICIES

Doors will open for check-in 15 minutes before each meeting is scheduled to begin.

Please check in your child at a computer check-in station to receive a name tag for your child and a guardian receipt that will be used for pick-up.

If your child is bottle-fed, nursing, or potty training, before checking in, please be certain to pick up a sticker reminder to help us better care for your child. Stickers can be found at a table in the lobby of The Barn or at the Guest Service Desk in Sidewalk. The stickers will inform our workers of details regarding feeding and/or alert them that a child in their care is potty training.

To avoid any unnecessary accidents, we ask that you take your child to the bathroom before dropping them off at their assigned classroom.

Please pick up your child no later than 10 minutes after your meeting has been dismissed.

Please bring the following items with your child and make sure each item is labeled:

• Diaper (no cloth diapers) and change of clothes• Bottle if needed, with mixing instructions• Pacifier • Blanket or comfort item

If your child is potty training, make sure they have a potty training sticker and communicate that to the classroom greeter. Please provide a labeled bag with a pull-up and change of clothes, as accidents do happen.

For snacks, we provide Cheerios for infants and apples and pretzels for toddlers and older. Please notify the workers if your child is not able to have one of these items due to allergies, and provide an alternative snack (clearly labeled in a baggie, with their first and last name). We ask that you not bring in food requiring a utensil. No nuts, please.

To protect the health of families and staff, we ask that you do not bring children with the following symptoms:

• Fever• Persistent cough• Unexplained rashes• Thick or green runny nose• Pink eye or other eye infections• Vomiting or diarrhea

In the event you realize your child may have been contagious with a serious illness after they have been in our care, please contact us at [email protected] so we can notify our families.

Should you need to be reached with regard to your child, we will text message your cell phone with the location where you are needed. If you do not have a cell phone with you, please let the classroom greeter know of your location so we can locate you.

If you have any questions, please contact
