EOPS MISSION

The Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) is undertaken by a community college to be “over and above” the regular educational programs of the college. The purpose is to provide positive encouragement directed to the enrollment, retention and transfer/transition of disadvantaged students, and to stimulate their interest in social, intellectual, educational, and vocational development.

EOPS ELIGIBILITYEligibility and admission into the EOPS Program requires students to:

1. Complete FAFSA and be determined BOGG A or B eligible by the Financial Aid Office.

2. Be a California resident.

3. Register and attend 12 units of course work during the term admitted into the EOPS program and register and attend at least 3 units in the following terms.

4. Not have completed more than 70 degree-applicable units combined at all colleges attended.

5. Not have completed 6 consecutive semesters with the EOPS Program.

EOPS ELIGIBILITY6. Develop an educational plan with an EOPS counselor. An

educational plan is required for acceptance to the EOPS program.

7. Follow an educational plan and enroll in appropriate courses for a program of study.

8. Schedule an appointment and meet with an EOPS counselor at least twice each semester.

9. Meet with the EOPS Counselor when experiencing difficulties or challenges that impact academic progress.

10. Have any class adds/drops or changes in the educational plan approved by an EOPS counselor or coordinator.

EOPS ELIGIBILITY11. Notify the EOPS office of any changes in class schedule,

major, and/or units taken.

12. Submit a Work-In-Progress (WIP) form around mid-term each semester.

13. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Standards by maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA

14. Complete an EOPS application and mutual responsibility

contract.

15. Attend or complete an online EOPS orientation.

EOPS ELIGIBILITY16. Meet one of the following criteria:

a. Not qualified at the college of attendance for enrollment into the minimum level English or Mathematics course that is applicable to the Associate’s Degree.

b. Not have graduated from high school or obtained the General Education Diploma (GED).

c. Graduated from high school with a grade point average below 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

d. Been previously enrolled in remedial education.

e. The student is a first generation college student.

f. The student is a member of an underrepresented group residing in the immediate service area.

g. Parents are not native English speakers.

SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION

• Supplemental Instruction is a non-remedial and non-tutoring service that groups students enrolled in a general education courses in small cooperative learning groups facilitated by instructors and EOPS counselors.

• Supplemental Instruction allows the instructor to reconvene in separate sessions outside of the regular class once a week to question, reinforce, and clarify academic content presented in the regular class.

AIM, EARN, LEARN!Achievement In Mathematics (AIM)

ProgramThe Achievement In Mathematics program integrates counseling and guidance with mathematic courses. The goal is to provide support for students who overcome subject matter barriers and other obstacles that may keep students from reaching transfer objectives. Because of the sequential nature of mathematics learning, the student must commit to a minimum of one year in the program with the intent to participate again a second year.
