FERP environmental division of CarraraFor fifteen years the FERP Environmental Division of Carrara has been among the international leaders in detecting VOC fugitive and diffuse emissions, steam leakage, industrial stationary source emissions, technical and auxiliary gases leakages, while developing Energy Saving Programs and other High Value Services for the Refining, Power Generation, Off Shore and Petrochemical sectors.

Carrara offers consultancy services to Clients and Agencies with regard to monitoring plans in order to assess their compliance with international regulations and their use of the appropriate BAT - Best Available Techniques.

Carrara plans and carries out monitoring of VOC emissions in compliance with:• LDAR protocol in accordance with EPA 453/R95 – EN15446:2008 with

inspection technique EPA Method 21 for the detection of VOC fugitive emissions through FID and PID.

• SMART LDAR protocol in accordance with EPA 6560-50-P (Alternative work practice to detect leaks from equipment) for the detection of VOC fugitive emissions using a remote inspection technique by infrared camera IR OGI Camera (Optical Gas Imaging).

• Inspective LDAR – SMART LDAR combined protocols.

Furthermore, FERP conducts remote inspection activities by IR OGI Camera, of the “tank roof fitting” in order to direct maintenance activities in line with supervision and improvement plans.

The Valve Leak Acoustic Detection program is a part of the FMP - Flare Minimization Plan - and controls the leakage through of ESV (Emergency System Vent), ESD (Emergency Shut Down) and manual blow down valves. This program can be conducted together with the SSA -Steam System Assessment – using a simulation software which can construct approximate models of the site steam system. The aim is to predict savings that could be achieved by the implementation of key steam system Best Practice measures, for example, the regular inspection of steam traps and insulation systems in order to drive the maintenance and the improvement plan.
