Lanikai Body and Bath: Entrepreneurs Offer Magical, Fresh and Natural with Scentsof Hawaii in Their Kailua StoreBy Juliette Dekeyser, 2/9/2010 1:05:59 PM

Dynamic Duo Gloria Garvey and Brook Gramann decided to branch out from their well-known brandingbusiness, The Brand Strategy Group, and open a retail store in 2005 in their Kailua neighborhood,Lanikai Bath and Body.

With the theme “Magical, fresh and natural with scents of Hawaii”, Garvey and Gramann sought tocreate establish a store that reflects through its products and atmosphere the magic of Kailuaʼs pristineLanikai beach: “almost always calm, and almost always heavenly.” Naturally, the store featuresproducts made in Hawaii.

Manager Margaret Peebles says “Mmmm, that smells good,” is the first thing people say when theypass the door. Apparently this is so true, that one day a customer requested “buy this smell.”

But the flowery fragrance that permeates the store is the mix of at least 18 different scents and close to100 products including handmade moisturizing lotions, shampoos, natural Hawaiian soaps, bodybutters, scented candles, etc.

“There's something here for everybody,” Peebles says. That includes Naupaka for men and women, vanilla sugar lotions for Lanikai girls, scent-less Buddha surf for sensitive skins, Pakaku with organicbotanical extracts for men. Garvey and Gramann, both dog lovers and dog owners, even included aline of mango shampoo for dogs.

It is a tough choice, but Peebles says the Plumeria body lotion is her favorite product and certainly themost popular of the store because it is “a refreshing and relaxing as a dip in the blue Pacific.”

This store is famous for its “made in Hawaii” products, and people come from all over the world to buythem, even from Japan. “Itʼs wonderful to work here. Our regulars are like family and we always meetvery nice tourists and I love guessing where they come from,” Peebles says.

Lanikai Body and Bath is the only store in Kailua that offers Hawaiian body products with organic andnatural ingredients. “Indeed, selling products from Hawaii is our main objective, otherwise you can go toABC stores and buy a basic lotion, but itʼs not from Hawaii,” jokes Peebles.

Though economic times are challenging in Hawaii, especially in businesses that rely on tourism,Peebles says the business is holding its own. In fact, she says the fall season was never so great forLanikai Body and Bath.

Part of that is because of the H1N1 flu, which makes certainly people more aware of cleanness.Hygiene has become the number one priority, thatʼs why they buy more and more soaps, hand sanitizeror body scrubs.

Take advice from Lanikai Body and Bath ownersʼ experiences who have built a successful businessthrough these three secrets: They chose unique products, they have excellent consumer services andknow their products and market.

They also make it easy to shop in their store located on the most highly trafficked section of Kailua at600 Kailua Road No. 119.

All products are also on the Lanikai Body and Bath website at http://www.lanikaibathandbody.com/ -there are hundreds of great gift ideas for any time of year.
