UCF DirectConnect guarantees admission to UCF with an associate degree from our partner colleges; College of Central Florida, Daytona State, Eastern Florida, Lake Sumter, Seminole State, and Valencia College

DirectConnect advantages include a shorter time to completion, and a smooth transition to UCF 

41,000 have transferred to UCF through DirectConnect DirectConnect students save just over 20% in tuition by starting at their local state 

college and transferring to UCF

UCF recognized for doing better in educating students and preparing them for jobs

UCF is the only state university ranked in the top three during all four years that performance‐based funding has been awarded

The additional funds will be invested in further strengthening our academic efforts

Last year’s performance funding is to implement new student success programs based on predictive analytics. Student data used to identify which students are struggling.  Academic advisers reach out to those students and offer them services, from tutoring and counseling to helping apply for financial aid

UCF’s Collegiate Cyber Defense Club has won it’s third consecutive national title competing against 180 college and university teams

UCF was recently designated by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education joining FSU, UF, and USF

Twenty UCF programs were recently ranked among the top 100 in their fields by U.S. News & World Report in its Best Graduate Schools 2017 guidebook. The survey reviewed more than 800 public and private institutions with graduate schools

UCF BOT approved this past March a Master’s of Science Degree in Data Analytics, a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Entertainment Management

The Corridor Research Partnerships

An economic development initiative of UCF, USF, UF serving 23 of Florida’s 67 Counties co‐chaired by the three university Presidents

To grow high tech industry and innovation through partnerships that support research, marketing, workforce and entrepreneurship

Matching Grants Research Program enables Corridor High Tech Companies to Conduct Applied Research with Professors, Graduate and Doctoral Students

Since 1996 partnered with over 400 companies on more than 1,400 research projects.  Over $70 million matched by $180 million in corporate cash and in‐kind generating $938 million in quantifiable downstream impacts. With a broader impact over $1 billion

Entrepreneurship: 

The UCF Business Incubation Program (BIP) is an economic development partnership designed to help create & sustain jobs in the community and spur economic growth throughout the region. 

Since 1999, BIP has assisted more than 350 early‐stage companies, who’ve sustained nearly 3,700 jobs throughout Central Florida. With a total impact on regional economic output (GDP) of $2.48 billion.

Programs, designed to help businesses at different stages. • Pre‐Incubation – helps create and launch scalable startups.• Incubation – helps scale businesses already in operation.• Soft Landing – helps companies headquartered elsewhere expand to Central Florida.

The Future

Entrepreneurship:

GrowFL is a statewide economic development organization certified by the National Center for Economic Gardening through the Edward Lowe Foundation. Focused on assisting second‐stage growth companies prosper in the state of Florida.

GrowFL helps companies overcome obstacles to growth and leads them towards prosperity and is a critical component to the state’s economic development strategy and Florida’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.  Results include:– An estimated 3,545 net new direct, indirect and induced jobs– Contributing over $547 million to Florida’s economy– Generated an additional $18.34 million in total state and local tax revenues (above and beyond the cost of the program).

– That translates to a net Return on Investment of $6.74 for every $1.00 invested into the program.

Blackstone Launchpad (BLP) 

Problem: Young Americans with too much debt and too little experience are MUCH LESS likely to engage in entrepreneurship

Solution: Established in October 2013 the Blackstone LaunchPad at UCF provides one‐on‐one advising and startup resources to student entrepreneurs

Results in its first 24 months of activity saw:

– 1400+ unique student ventures advised

– 100+ early‐stage ventures launched

– 200+ jobs created and 250+ contractors hired

– 15M+ projected revenue for 2016

Florida Consortium of Metropolitan Research Universities (FCMRU)

Aims to produce more career‐ready graduates with lower debt, better training and workforce skills that meet the demand of Florida’s growing economy

FCMRU is a collaborative endeavor between FIU, UCF, and USF. Formed with consultation and support from the Helios Education Foundation

Will grow the number of degreed professionals and positively impact Florida’s economic development. By increasing the number of baccalaureate degrees by 12%; increasing the six‐year graduation rate by minority students by 4%; increasing the number of graduates employed in Florida by 3%; and increasing the salaries that our graduates earn in the work place by 10%

Approved $20 million toward a new academic building that will be the centerpiece of UCF Downtown

UCF’s International Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research for smart sensors in Osceola County. This project will give Florida a global competitive advantage in this critical and emerging market beginning with advanced sensors and 3‐5 materials

Governor Scott signed into law s. 1001.7‐65, F.S. creating the “emerging preeminent state research university” designation…allows for distribution of funding increases based upon public universities meeting certain expectations to receive certain funding increases

UCF and the University Innovation Alliance recently announced an additional $3.85 million in new funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation and USA Funds to support its work to improve college completion rates
