Smart Access System with Push-button Start

■ Entering the vehicleTo unlock the vehicle, simply grasp any of thedoor handles.

■ Exiting the vehicleTo lock the vehicle, press the lock button on any ofthe door handles.

To close the windows and the moon roof (standardtype), press and hold the lock button.

■ Opening the trunkTo open the trunk, press and hold the trunkrelease button.

The smart access system with push-button start allows you to enter and exit the vehicleor start the engine by simply carrying the electronic key in your pocket or bag.For details on starting the engine, see page 17.

Theft Deterrent System

■Engine immobilizer systemThe engine immobilizer system prevents theengine from being started in the event that anattempt is made to start the vehicle using anunregistered key. The security indicator light flashes to indicate thatthe system is set.

■Alarm

The system sounds the alarm and flashes lights when forcible entry is detected.To set the alarm: lock all the doors from outside the vehicle. The security indicator lightcomes on to indicate that the alarm is in its preparation state. When the indicator lightbegins to flash, the system is armed.To deactivate or stop the alarm: start the engine, or unlock the doors or trunk using theelectronic key or the wireless remote control.

■Steering lock

The steering wheel locks when the “ENGINESTART STOP” switch is in OFF.

To release the steering wheel lock, gently turn thewheel left or right while pressing the “ENGINESTART STOP” switch.

The theft deterrent system includes the following features to help protect your vehicle fromtheft.

Driving and Seat Position Memory System (If Equipped)

■ Setting memory positionsWhile holding down the SET button, press andhold one of the memory buttons (1 or 2) until youhear a beep.

The current position of the seat, as well as theposition of the steering wheel and the outsiderear view mirrors (for the driver's seat only) isrecorded.

■ Recalling memory positionsPress one of the memory buttons (1 or 2).

■ Linking driving position memory with door unlock operation (driver's seat only)While holding down the desired memory button,

press and hold on the wireless remote controluntil you hear a beep.

To prevent triggering of the alarm, open one ofthe doors within 60 seconds after the beep isheard.

The seats can be returned to a previously set position by simply pressing a button.The position of the steering wheel and the outside rear view mirrors is adjusted along with thedriver's seat.Positions can be conveniently recorded for the vehicle's primary drivers and passengers.

Linking driving position memory to the door unlock operation allows the memory positionto be recalled automatically when the driver's door is opened. (The linked function does notoperate if the driver's door is unlocked using the mechanical key or manually from insidethe vehicle.)

Outside Rear View MirrorsTo select the mirror you wish to adjust (L or R),use the master switch.To adjust mirror angle, use the control switch.

On some models, the mirrors will automaticallyangle downwards when the vehicle is reversing.To disable this function, set the master switch inthe neutral position (between L and R).

Anti-glare Inside Rear View Mirror

To turn AUTO mode ON/OFF, press the AUTObutton.The indicator comes on when AUTO mode isturned ON.

When the inside rear view mirror is switched toAUTO mode, the outside rear view mirrors arealso switched to the AUTO mode automatically.

The anti-glare mirror uses a sensor to detect light from vehicles behind and automaticallyreduces glare.

■Starting the engineMake sure the parking brake is engaged and theshift lever is in P.

Depress the brake pedal.The “ENGINE START STOP” switch indi-cator light turns green.

Press the “ENGINE START STOP” switch.

■Stopping the engine

Engage the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P. Press the “ENGINE START STOP” switch.

■Changing power modesTo change power modes without turning on the engine, press the “ENGINE START STOP”switch without depressing the brake pedal. The modes can be changed in the followingorder:

With the electronic key on your person, the engine can be started by simply pressing the“ENGINE START STOP” switch, while depressing the brake pedal.(The mechanical key cannot be used to start the engine.)

■ Setting the speed

Press the ON-OFF button.The system will turn on.

Accelerate or decelerate to the desiredspeed, and then push the lever down.

This sets the speed in the cruise controlmemory.

■ Canceling

To temporarily cancel the cruise control, pullthe lever toward you. To resume the cruisecontrol, push the lever up.To turn the system off, press the ON-OFF but-ton.

■ Adjusting the speed setting To increase speed: push the lever up.To decrease speed: push the lever down.

Release the lever when the desired speed isreached.

Cruise control allows the driver to maintain a constant speed without having to operate theaccelerator pedal.Use for highway driving or when traveling at a constant speed for long periods of time.

The instrument panel, the side marker, parking,tail and license plate lights turn on.The headlights and all lights listed above turn on.The headlights and parking lights turn on/offautomatically in accordance with ambient lightlevels.

To engage the high beams, push the lever forward.To flash the high beams, pull the lever and hold.

■AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) (if equipped)AFS improves visibility on curves by automatically adjusting the horizontal orientation of theheadlights in accordance with vehicle speed and the degree of the tire angle that are con-trolled by steering input.

To cancel the system, press the AFS OFF button.OFFON

To brighten: turn the knob upward.To dim: turn the knob downward.

When the headlight switch is turned to ON, thebrightness will be reduced slightly unless the con-trol dial is turned fully on.

The system turns off automatically after 15 to 60 minutes. The operation time changesaccording to the ambient temperature and vehicle speed.

The HomeLink compatible transceiver in yourvehicle has 3 buttons which can be programmedto operate 3 different devices.

Hold your hand-held transmitter within 3inches of the HomeLink buttons.Press and hold down the desired HomeLink

button.For U.S.A. owners:

While pressing the HomeLink button,press and hold down the button on the hand-held transmitter until the indicator lightchanges from a slow to a rapid flash.

For Canadian owners:While pressing the HomeLink button,repeatedly press and release (cycle) the but-ton on the hand-held transmitter every 2seconds until the indicator light changesfrom a slow to a rapid flash.

If your garage door is of the rolling code type:Press the training button on the motor-head unitin your garage.Press and hold the vehicle’s programmedHomeLink button for 2 seconds and releaseit. Repeat this step once again.

If the door does not open, press and releasethe same button once again.

The garage door opener can be programmed to operate garage doors, gates, entrydoors, door locks, home lighting systems, security systems, and other devices.

Electronic Key Alarm

The electronic key alarm uses an alarm and warning messages to indicate that the electronic key has been used improperly. Take appropriate measure in response to any warning mes-sages that are displayed. In some cases, an alarm may sound without an accompanying warning message. If so, follow the correction procedure in the table below.

Tried to lock the doors using the entry function while the electronic key is still inside the passenger compartment

Retrieve the electronic key from the passenger com-partment and lock the doors again.

Closed the trunk while the electronic key is still inside the trunk and all doors are locked

Retrieve the electronic key from the trunk and close the trunk lid.

Tried to exit the vehicle with the electronic key and lock the doors without first turning the “ENGINE START STOP” switch OFF
