INTRODUCTION

The report contains enrolment summaries at the provincial, divisional

and school level by grade. Enrolment is reported on the basis of the

total number of pupils attending school on September 30, 2018.

Enrolment statistics contained herein are not representative of the

number of pupils eligible for provincial funding. Pupil statistics

pertaining to funding eligibility are available in FRAME reports

(Financial Reporting and Accounting in Manitoba Education) which

can be found on the Internet at:

<www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/finance/frame_report/>. Further information

regarding schools can also be found in the Schools in Manitoba

booklet at: <www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/schools/>.

The September 30, 2018 Enrolment Report has been compiled by

the Schools’ Finance Branch, Manitoba Education and Training for

the 2018/2019 school year. The report provides enrolment statistics

based on data reported annually by public schools, independent

schools and home schools in the Province of Manitoba.

Enrolment reporting is mandatory for public, funded independent

schools and non-funded independent schools. Nursery enrolment

represents pupils attending public school division or independent

school nursery programs only.

Total enrolment in homeschools increased by 65 pupils or 1.8%.

SUMMARY

Total enrolment reported in the Province of Manitoba on September 30, 2018 was

208,796 representing an increase of 1,638 pupils or 0.8% from total enrolment on

September 30, 2017. The table below illustrates changes in enrolment by grade.

Total enrolment increased in 27 school divisions and decreased in 10 school

divisions for a net increase of 1,708 pupils or 0.9%.

Total enrolment in funded and non-funded independent schools decreased by 135

pupils or 0.8%. Enrolment in funded independent schools decreased by 172 pupils

or 1.2%. Enrolment in non-funded independent schools increased by 37 pupils or

2.0%.

Pembina Trails School Division with an increase of 505 pupils, Louis Riel School

Division with an increase of 218 pupils and Seven Oaks School Division with an

increase of 182 pupils experienced the largest gains in enrolment. In terms of

percentage, the largest increases occurred in Whiteshell Special Revenue District

with 24.4%, Western School Division with 4.5% and Flin Flon School Division and

Pembina Trails School Division with 3.6% each.

Winnipeg School Division with a decrease of 138 pupils, Lakeshore School Division

with a decrease of 72 pupils and Mystery Lake School Division with a decrease of

68 pupils experienced the largest declines in enrolment. In terms of percentage, the

largest decreases occurred in Lakeshore School Division with 6.7%, Kelsey School

Division with 2.2% and Mystery Lake School Division and Southwest Horizon and

with 2.1% each.

The table on the following page illustrates changes in enrolment for each school

division in the Province of Manitoba.
