Career and College Promise (CCP)

Why take courses at a community college?

Many families find themselves asking this question, and for each student, the answer is different. Here are a few reasons why you may want to point your child toward ACC. y For some students, career goals can be easily met by

the courses found at a community college, including many technical fields that larger university do not offer.

y Many classes are smaller than university classes, allowing for a more hands-on approach between instructor and student.

y Any College Transfer Pathway course completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better is guaranteed to transfer to the 16 public universities in North Carolina and count toward completing a program at ACC.

y If your child is undecided about a career, community college programs can offer a sneak peek into a certain career or field of study. Maybe it’s a good fit and maybe it isn’t. Either way, your child earns college credit and you haven’t wasted any tuition money if they take courses through CCP.

y A community college can be less expensive than a traditional university and is designed so that students can later transfer credits to a four-year college or university.

to be eligible for a College transfer pathway, students must: y Be a high school junior or senior. y Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on high school

courses. y Demonstrate college readiness in reading, writing, and

math on a state-approved assessment test (SAT, PSAT, ACT, Pre-ACT, PLAN, ACC placement test).

y Maintain at least a college GPA of 2.0 after two college courses for continued eligibility.

to be eligible for a Career technical education (Cte) pathway, students must: y Be a high school junior or senior. y Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on high school

courses or have written recommendation from the high school principal/principal’s designee.

y Meet the required pathway testing requirements, if applicable or demonstrate college readiness by reaching the prerequisite benchmarks for the chosen pathway.

y Maintain at least a college GPA of 2.0 after two college courses for continued eligibility.

NeW! LANDSCAPe CONtRACtOR LiCeNSe ReNeWAL Ceus–BuSiNeSS BOOkkeePiNG WORkShOPThis class will provide business-related CEUs toward the annual CEU requirement for landscape contractors. All small business owners need to track their financial transactions if they want to “stay in business”. It’s vital to have a basic understanding of accounting terms and functions to ensure that you know whether your business is profitable or not. This workshop will introduce landscape contractors and other small business owners to the basic language of accounting, familiarize you with the chart of accounts and with the basics of the general ledger and double-entry accounting, and introduce cash and accrual accounting. Without tracking your financial transactions, you have no way to measure the success or failure of your business efforts. Accounting can be your “best friend” when you at least understand the basics since you now can manage your financial assets and test your business strategies.
