Clover Kids Kick Off Event!
Do you have a sibling in kindergarten through 3rd grade?! If so, they
can join Clover Kids! Clover Kids is a FUN, youth program specifi-
cally designed for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Clover
Kids experience hands-on learning by participating in activities,
games, and other positive experiences. Clover Kids even get to
participate in the Delaware County Fair!
Come join us for our Clover Kids Kick Off Event on Saturday, Sep-
tember 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Tirrill Park in Man-
chester. There will be activities and games, as well as a table of
information about Clover Kids and how to join! All Delaware County
youth in kindergarten
through 3rd grade and their
families are welcome!

Mandatory Leader’s Meeting!
This year the required leader’s training will be held on Thursday, No-
vember 7th at 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. The subject of the
training is TBD.
As in the past few years, we will have one fall meeting for the required
leader training, and one spring meeting, which will be our Fair schedul-
ing meeting.
Please make every effort to be at this training. This is a mandatory
requirement for all 4-H leaders in Iowa.
Record Book Help Night!
September 5th! Record book season is now upon us! There will be a “Record Book Help
Night” on Thursday, September 5th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. 4-Hers can come to
the Extension Office to work on their record books. We will have forms, pencils, scissors, tape, etc.
for youth to use.

4-H Week Hay Bale
Decorating Contest!! National 4-H Week is October 6– October 12 this year! To
celebrate, we are having a Hay Bale Decorating Contest
between Delaware County 4-H Clubs. If your club wishes to
participate, please read the rules below carefully!
RULES:
• The decoration and theme of your hay bale must be centered around “Joining 4-H”, what 4-H is about, or 4-
H projects (service projects, livestock, volunteer, etc.)
• Clubs will be responsible for getting their own hay bale.
• Your Club must notify the Extension Office where you are displaying your hale bale at during 4-H Week. Clubs are responsible for finding a location to display their hay
bale.
• Your Club’s hale bale must be displayed in Delaware
County during the entirety of 4-H Week (October 6-12)
• Only one hay bale may be used in your display. Round or square bales are acceptable. You may use posters
and other props to decorate your hay bale.
• Pictures will be posted of each Club’s hay bale and posted on the Delaware County 4-H Facebook Page on Monday, October 7th. Judging will be determined by the number of likes received on the picture once the picture is posted. The winner will be announced on Fri-
day, October 11th at 4:00 p.m.
• The winning club will receive a pizza party!
“4-Her of the Day” Feature!
4-H Clubs, 4-H Leaders, and 4-H members can nominate a 4-Her to be
featured as the “4-Her of the Day” during National 4-H Week. The feature
will include a photo of the 4-Her and a quote about their 4-H experience.
The “4-Her of the Day” will also receive a special 4-H prize.
Nominate a 4-H member from your club the exemplifies the 4-H motto “To
Make the Best Better.”
To nominate a 4-Her, please send a short paragraph about your nominee
and explain why that 4-H member deserves to be featured as a “4-Her of
the Day” to Kenzie at [email protected]. Nominations are due October
1st.

Hoptown Hurricanes 4-H Breakfast! The Hoptown Hurricanes will kick off 4-H
Week at their annual 4-H Breakfast on Sun-
day, October 6th! More information to come in
the October Newsletter!

Delaware County 4-Hers, Clover Kids, 4-H
volunteers, 4-H alumni, and 4-H supporters
wearing their GREEN 4-H shirt!

Three Senior Dairy judging teams and two Junior teams from Delaware County com-
peted well at the Iowa State Dairy Judging Contest, held during the Iowa State Fair.
Individually Delaware County juniors earned 4 of the top five spots. One team from
Delaware County won the Junior Division. First team members were Haley Ronnebaum, Alia
Domeyer, Tyler Hoeger, and Isaiah Hammerand (Dubuque County). They also earned 1st in
Reasons, Brown Swiss and Ayrshire, 2nd Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey. Individually, Haley
Ronnebaum placed 1st Reasons, Jersey, 2nd Overall, Brown Swiss, 4th Guernsey, 6th
Brown Swiss, Holstein. Isaiah Hammerand earned 1st Guernsey, 4th Overall, Brown Swiss,
5th Ayrshire, Jersey, 9th Reasons. Alia Domeyer earned 1st Ayrshire, 2nd Reasons, 5th
Overall, 7th Holstein. Tyler Hoeger earned 6th Reasons, 8th Ayrshire, 9th Brown Swiss, Hol-
stein, Milking Shorthorn.
The second team brought home 3rd place honors. Team members are Maleah
Demmer, Ford Domeyer and Katherine Comley. In addition, they received 2nd Ayrshire,
Brown Swiss, 3rd Reasons, 5th Guernsey, Milking Shorthorn. Individually Maleah Demmer
earned the top Junior. Additionally, 3rd Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, 4th Reasons, 6th Guernsey,
7th Milking Shorthorn, 8th Holstein, 9th Jersey. Ford Domeyer earned 1st Brown Swiss, 3rd
Milking Shorthorn, 4th Holstein, 10th Reasons. Katherine Comley placed 7th Ayrshire.
Members of the highest ranking senior team include Mason Kruse, Carter Kruse,
Tehya Demmer and Laney Demmer. They placed 3rd Overall. They also earned 1st Jersey,
2nd Milking Shorthorn, 3rd Brown Swiss, Reasons, 5th Guernsey, Ayrshire. Individually, Ma-
son Kruse earned 5th Brown Swiss, 6th Reasons, 10th Overall, Milking Shorthorn Carter
Kruse earned 3rd Guernsey, 5th Reasons, 6th Holstein, 7th Jersey, 8th Milking Shorthorn.
Tehya Demmer earned 1st Jersey, 2nd Brown Swiss. Laney Demmer earned 8th Ayrshire,
and 9th Milking Shorthorn.
Members of second highest ranking team include Amber Engelken, Lane Domeyer,
Sydney Demmer and Grace Strief (Dubuque County). The team placed 2nd Ayrshire, 3rd
Guernsey, 4th Reasons, 5th Overall, Brown Swiss, Holstein. Individually Amber Engelken
earned 3rd Reasons, Milking Shorthorn, 4th Overall, Brown Swiss,6th Guernsey, 7th Ayr-
shire. Sydney Demmer earned 10th Holstein. Lane Domeyer earned 10th Jersey. Grace Strief
earned 8th Guernsey.
The third Delaware County Senior team members were Tara Goedken, Sarah
Goedken and Courtney Goedken. They earned 3rd Milking Shorthorn, 4th Guernsey, Holstein
and 5th Reasons. Individually Sarah earned 2nd Milking Shorthorn, 4th Jersey. Courtney
earned 3rd Brown Swiss. Tara earned 7th Holstein, 10th Guernsey.
There were 7 Teams with 29 individuals competing in the Senior Division. There
were 6 teams with 22 individuals competing in the Junior Division of the Contest this year.
The coaches of the Delaware County Dairy Judging teams are David Kunde, Kaleb
Kruse and Jeannie Domeyer. We appreciate the support of parents, volunteers and the dairy
producers who let us practice at their farms in preparation for the state contest. This year we
judged animals at the farms of Norm and Julie Voelker, Tom and Sara Kruse, Greg and Pam
Carroll, and David and Donna Kunde.

Apply for the Delaware County 4-H
Foundation Grant Funding Program!
Does your club have a community service project they are planning but need funds to help com-
plete? The Delaware County 4-H Foundation has established a grant program which will provide
assistance to 4-H club projects. This program is designed to encourage clubs to undertake and
carryout projects which will benefit the community. This is only to provide seed money and is not
intended to provide the only dollars to fund the projects. The Delaware County 4-H Foundation will
provide match funds up to $1,000. The amount granted must be at least matched by the applicant
before the grant money is awarded. Grant applications are due by February 1st, May 1st, August
1st, and November 1st. Grants will be evaluated on a continuous basis. Submit grant applications
online or mail to:
