LANGUAGE AND PERFORMANCE ARTS Theater Performance in English Theater is not only exciting, dramatic, and funny, it is beneficial for all children – shy, outgoing, and everything in between. Through performance games, movement, play with words, improvisation, memorization, and finally putting on a play for an audience, children will

learn about the different facets of acting, gain self-confidence, and making lasting memories. Instructor: TBD Grades: 1-4 When: Fridays 4:00-5:00 PM

NGU Spanish Fun - SP The objective of the class will be to engage students in activities that will bring to life classic and modern stories of the Spanish-speaking world. With the aid of music, dance, and in-class theatrical performances students will learn about several Hispanic cultures each week and will, at the same time, be introduced to basic vocabulary and phrases of the Spanish language.

MUSIC

French Choir – FR Choir develops children’s ears, voices, and listening skills. The goal of the Choir will be to perform French music that is related to the curriculum used for daily classes. It will also introduce the students to another aspect of the French culture, starting with songs in unison (one voice), then in canon, in order to achieve harmonization.

Recorder “Orchestra” – FR Recorder is used in the French Program as an introduction to playing and reading instrumental music. Unlike other instruments, children are able to play songs and melodies in just a few weeks. Whether your child is musically inclined or just curious, they’ll be

sure to have fun. Grades: 1-4 When: Thursdays 4:00-5:00 PM

Violin – EN/FR Violin classes this year will be individual and 20 min. long. Children will learn how to start playing the instrument with a Suzuki and Essential Elements certified teacher. Parents signing up must be willing to invest time at home in practicing the instrument, and students must be motivated to learn.

Music Appreciation (Claiborne) – FR You’re never too young to start appreciating music. Children will start to learn about the sounds made by different instruments, rhythm, and singing, while developing memory and ear training. Instructor: Welbie PrinstonAR

Piano Lessons – FR Students will enjoy private, 20-minute piano lessons with a French piano instructor. "Music is 5% talent and 95% hard work, but hard work can also be fun, and that is my mission. That is accomplished by using different ways to motivate children about learning notes, theory, musicality, and improvisation." Students can choose between a French or American piano method to work with. Parents signing up must be willing to invest time at home in practicing the instrument. Instructor: Pascal Valcasara

SCIENCE

Science Discovery – EN Using the 4-H STEM science curriculum, youth will acquire science skills as they explore whales, rocks and minerals, water quality, trees and recycling. This class will include fun, age-appropriate experiments to learn and witness basic principles of physics, chemistry, and biology. Instructor: Jamie Bronder

Junk Drawer Robotics – FR The goal of 4-H Junk Drawer Robotics is to make science, engineering, and technology engaging and meaningful in the lives of young people. The activities do this by encouraging youth to use the processes and approaches of science; the planning and conceptual design of

engineering; and the application of technology in their personal portfolios of skills and abilities. In this first book, youth are challenged to build robots from everyday items. None of the levels require or use computers. Yoga - FR In this 30 min. workshop we will introduce kids to physical poses (asana), and simple mindfulness practices. Through the poses, aspiring yogis will learn basic anatomy, increase their strength and flexibility and learn the value of repeated practice and concentration.

Ballet dancing at NODA Studios - EN Classes are taught in a non-competitive atmosphere, with emphasis placed on correct terminology and execution. Our instructors cover a large scope of educational backgrounds with knowledge of the major training techniques.

Jazz & Hip-Hop at NODA Studios – EN Proudly originating in New Orleans, Jazz is a style of dance seen in many Broadway shows such as “Chicago” and even “Wicked.” Jazz dance is entertaining to watch, fun to perform, and features a combination of unique moves, intricate footwork, leaps, and turns. Jazz enhances a dancer's coordination, poise, and balance,

Capoeira- EN This class is offered in partnership with NOLA Capoeira (www.nolacapoeira.com). Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art combined with dance, music, acrobatics, and culture. It is a great form of physical fitness as students will learn to do handstands, headstands, cartwheels and back bends but class will also include students learning

ARTS, CRAFTS, NATURE

Art Workshop (including maskmaking and storytelling) – EN Students will be exploring the fundamentals of 2D and 3D design through the art making process with a Louisiana State certified teaching artist. Each lesson, students will be introduced to a variety

of cultures and folk tales of that region. Students will develop problem-solving, critical thinking and literacy skills through the art of maskmaking and Indonesian Shadow Puppetry. Clay Pottery – EN Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium that many kids have never experienced before. Its three dimensional nature forces them to think about structure, shapes and forms. During this class, they can experiment with a variety of building techniques while they learn to think about their ideas and adapt to change along the

way.

Farm to Table – FR Learn all about growing vegetables in our raised beds AND cooking healthy delicious recipes ! In this class, students will alternate between gardening outside while learning about the life-cycle of a plant, and cooking from scratch in our kitchen,

hopefully including some of our « school grown » veggies !
