ENR 5. NAVIGATION WARNINGS

) ENR 5.1 PROHIBITED, RESTRICTED AND DANGER AREASAll airspaces in which a potentialhazards to aircraft operations may existand all areas over which the operationof civil aircraft may, for one reason oranother be restricted temporarily orpermanently, are classified according tothe following three types of areas asdefined by ICAD.

Danger Area

)

An airspace of defined dimensionswithin which activities dangerous to theflight of aircraft may exist at specifiedtimes. This term is used only when thepotential danger to aircraft has not ledto the designation of the airspace asrestricted or prohibited. The effect ofthe creation of the danger area is tocaution operators or pilots of aircraftthat it is necessary for them to assessthe dangers in relation .\0 theirresponsibility for the safef\l)of theiraircraft.

Prohibited Area• j

An airspace of defined dimensions,above land areas or territorial waters ofa State, within which the flight of aircraftis prohibited. This term is used onlywhen the flight of civil aircraft within thedesignated airspace is not permitted atany time under any circumstances ..

Restricted Area

An airspace of defined dimensions,above land areas or territorial waters ofa State, within which the flight of aircraftis restricted in accordance with certainspecified conditions.

This term is used whenever the flight ofcivil aircraft within the designatedairspace is not absolutely prohibited butmay be made only if specifiedconditions are complied with. Thus,prohibition of flight except at certainspecified times leads to the designationof the airspace as a "restricted area" aswould prohibition except in certainmeteorological conditions. Similarly,prohibition of flight unless specialpermission has been obtained, leads tothe designation of a restricted area.However, conditions of flight imposedas a result of application of rules of theair or air traffic service practice orprocedures (for example, compliancewith minimum safe heights or with rulesstemming from the establishment ofcontrolled airspace) do not constituteconditions calling for designation of arestricted area. Each area is numberedand a single series of numbers is usedfor all areas, regardless of type, toensure that a number is not duplicated.Each area, is as small as practicable,and contained within simplegeometrical limits such as a circle,square, etc.

The type of area involved is indicatedby the letter "P" for prohibited, "R" forrestricted and "0" for danger, precededby the nationality letters "FB". Forexample, areas are assigned numbersand letters in the following manner -FBP1, FB02, FB03, FBP4, FBR5,FB06, etc.

Each area is described in thetabulations found below which indicatesits lateral and vertical limits, the type ofrestriction or hazard involved, the timesat which it applies and other pertinentinformation.
