Theme 1:Misguided decisions on how we spend time at work

Michael and CindySpending time in SGA and then being freaked out about staying lateSelf awareness with regard to distractions and less sexy tasks.How you manage YOUR work == the time thats in your control.SAYING NO!! And being OK with it. Are you spendng time on the most important things.

Theme 2:Failure to utilize available resources

Theme 3: Lack of boundaries in relationships with students

CindyAnswering E-mails at midnight taking phone callsAlways available wont set any time boundaries with timeOversharing students become primary contacts work and socially Putting it all out there with them all the time.Role Understanding desire to be liked.High emphasis on relationship sometimes at the expense of time.

Theme 5:Not adjusting schedules

CindyExplode the myth just take an afternoon off!They think you are not taking your vacationSwing shift and youre not using flexibilityBut I (emphasis on I) need to be there. Maternity leave.Adjust work day 12 to 9 on SGA day!! What works best for you, insures that youll do it, and works for your institution/supervisor.

GO HOME cant wait for your director to tell you to go home.

Theme 6: Mismatched expectations

MichaelSuck it up this it. Expectation on 1 for 1 hours to overtime. Thinking that balance is 50/50 all the time. Balance over the time of your career. Ebb and flow of busyness. You think youre right about what youre entitled to to help balance. E.g. wish the university would embrace flex time.
