Recommendations for College and Honors/AP EncouragementConsider taking Honors/AP courses

to challenge yourself!

Please be cautious: Know yourself…..

Everyone is different. Each of you has your own strengths and limitations.

Consider the time commitment of your extracurricular activities, part-time job, or any other outside responsibilities.

It is NOT wise to make decisions regarding your course selections based on what your peers are registering for!

Page 9: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Teacher Recommendations Online! Recommendation will be for exact course(s)

and level(s). More than one course may be recommended

for consideration in any subject area. Talk with your teachers about the courses and

levels you should take next year.

Page 10: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Teacher Recommendations Remember that teachers are recommending

you for the level they believe you are capable of, BUT…

Even if all your teachers recommend AP level, that doesn’t mean you should sign up for an ALL AP schedule!

Be sure to BALANCE your course load! Do not take more than you will have time to

excel in!

Parent Waiver of Teacher Recommendation We advise caution in doing this! Teachers typically have a good idea of the correct level

of course to recommend based on historical experiences and on your current class performance.

Remember to consider the big picture! Although not recommended, parents may waive a

teacher recommendation with verified communication between parent and teacher on the school’s waiver form.

The waiver form will be available on the Enloe website and needs to be turned in by Tuesday, March 31.

Common QuestionsQuestion:

If a student has been retained, is it still possible to graduate with his/her class?

Answer:

Yes, Enloe students have the opportunity to earn up to 28 credits (7 credits x 4 years). Only 22 total credits are needed for graduation. Students can usually recover failed credits with effort.

Page 23: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common QuestionsQuestion:

How do I get an early release?

Answer:

Seniors who have earned enough credits toward graduation may receive an early release by filling out a form and getting a parent/guardian signature.

Page 24: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common QuestionsQuestion:

How many AP courses should a student take to be competitive for college admission?

Answer:

It depends on the competitiveness of the college. The more selective the college, the more AP courses it will expect to see successfully completed. In general, colleges like to see that students have maximized their school’s offerings.

Page 25: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common QuestionsQuestion:

What do colleges weigh more heavily when making admissions decisions, the number of AP courses or the GPA/grades?

Answer:

Both! Colleges are looking for students to challenge themselves at the highest levels at which they can be successful!

Page 26: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common QuestionsQuestion:

Why can’t I change my schedule when school starts?

Answer:

We build our course offerings, schedule, and teacher allocations based on what students request. Last-minute changes unravel the work that goes into building a master schedule that works for students and staff. To maintain the integrity of our courses and class sizes, we must hold students to their decisions.

Page 27: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common QuestionsQuestion:

Why do I have to choose alternate course selections?

Answer:

Two of the primary courses that you choose may be offered only one time and at the same time. If a conflict like this occurs, the computer will then automatically choose one of your alternate course selections to complete your schedule.

Keep in mind, you cannot rank alternates!

Page 28: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common QuestionsQuestion:

Is there an advantage in being first to submit my course selections?

Answer:

No. Course selections are stored by the computer until the master scheduler is run for all students. This process occurs after the course selection window has closed. There is no advantage to being first and no disadvantage to being last.

Page 29: Enloe Magnet High School Student Services. Future Ready Core Course of Study: Entered 2012-13 or later 4 English: English I, II, III, IV 4 Math: Math

Common Questions

Question:

What if I change my mind after the window for registering has closed?

Answer:

Students will have an opportunity to make any changes to their course verification sheets through Tuesday, March 31.
