milestones
The Epcot® International Flower & Garden Festival was introduced in 1994.
Debuting in 1995, the Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival was the concept of current Walt Disney World® Resort President George A. Kalogridis.
Test Track® Presented by Chevrolet® officially opened in 1999.
Guests blasted off on Mission: SPACE® for the first time in 2003, and took inaugural flights on Soarin’® in 2005.
So this October, come celebrate the 35th anniversary of the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”!
O n October 1, 1982, Ronald Reagan was President. Japan presented
the world’s first commercially released CD player. And the #1 song in the U.S. was “Jack & Diane” by John Cougar. But perhaps the biggest and best news of all, was that EPCOT Center opened its gates––along with Spaceship Earth and nine of its World Showcase Pavilions––to the delight of all.
opening day
As part of the opening-day ceremonies, dancers and band members performed; the famed Sherman Brothers wrote the song “The World Showcase March” for the occasion; and groups representing countries from all over the globe provided entertainment throughout World Showcase.
