EnGuard® GlassFree Insulation FAQWhat is EnGuard® GlassFree Insulation made from?EnGuard™ is a proprietary blend of high-performance and recycled polyester fibers. These fibers are most commonly found in sports apparel, bedding and health & hygiene Consumer products. 100% of the recycled fiber comes from common sources such as water and soda bottles.

Does it contain formaldehyde or other chemical additives?EnGuard’s™ thermal bonding process ensures there is no formaldehyde, harmful chemical binders, or irritating chemical fire retardants. EnGuard contains no VOC’s (0 ppm – CA 1350) making it GREENGUARD for Children and Schools compliant.

If there are no chemical fire retardants, will it burn?EnGuard® GlassFree Insulation is a Class A5 building material as tested under the ASTM E84 Standard. Just like Fiberglass and Mineral Fibers, EnGuard has a flame spread of <25. Special care should be given to ensure that contact is made with IC rated fixtures only.

Is any special equipment needed to install?EnGuard™ is designed to accommodate traditional 16” O.C. wood stud assemblies without the need for specialized equipment. Installation is fast and simple.

With friction fit applications and standard sizes of 15” x 94”. The proper installation of EnGuard provides lifetime efficiency without the worry of degradation or settling.

Additional sizes are available upon request to accommodate 16” Steel Framing, 24” O.C., or other nontraditional measures or advanced framing techniques.

What’s’ the R-value?The R-Value of polyester fiber is 4. The R-Value of EnGuard Insulation is determined by the product’s thickness and density. EnGuard is currently available at the following values:

3.5” R-13

R-15 (high density)

5.5” R-19 R-21 (high density)

Will it lose R-value over time?Proper installation of EnGuard® GlassFree Insulation will provide a lifetime of efficiency and comfort.EnGuard’s thermal bonding process contains no binders or glues that degrade over time. Friction-applications ensure no sagging or settling.

Is it an effective acoustical insulator?Vita Nonwovens has applied the same innovation we use in automotive acoustics to EnGuard™ Insulation. EnGuard™ can effectively absorb airborne sound and greatly reduce sound transmission throughout your building environment.

EnGuard® GlassFree Insulation Will it absorb moisture? Our high-performance polyester fibers are Hydrotropic and will not absorb moisture. EnGuard meets all requirements of ASTM C1104-06 for Water Vapor Sorption. Does it require a vapor control barrier? The 2009 IRC categorizes three classes of vapor control. These categories are defined depending on the vapor permeance of the control layer.

Class I . <0.1 perms example: polyethylene sheet, sheet metal, or aluminum facing. Class II. 0.1 - 1.0 perms example: Kraft facing, and some vapor control paints. Class III. 1.0 - 10 perms example: latex or enamel paints.
