E-commerce, while being an innovative element of the international trade in the 21st century, has formed a fundamentally new dimension of supplier-consumer relations on a global scale, thus erasing geographical and sociopolitical borders. Contemporary e-commerce and global economy as a whole depend heavily on the number of internet users.

The SCO region, which accounts for 60% of the territory of Eurasia and hosts almost half of the world population, is a huge market for joint innovation projects in the IT and digital economy areas.

“Shanghe Business Connect” pursues the mission of bringing together the best practices and tools from companies in e-commerce, AI and Fintech from China and SCO countries, and synergize them in the implementation of sound, and contemporary trade practices aiming to improve people’s livelihoods.

The event is organized by Yan’an Jiutian Technology Co, Ltd., Shanghe Trade and Culture House in cooperation with and support from the SCO Secretariat, the Business Council Secretariat, Youth Platform for SCO Countries “SCOLAR Network” and the United Center for Business Cooperation under SCO Business Council Secretariat (UCBC Beijing).

Under the jurisdiction of Shanghai, it is located in the northwest of Shanghai, borders on Baoshan and Putuo districts. The total area is 463.55 square kilometers.

In 2018, Jiading District has 3 sub-districts, 7 towns, 1 management committee and 1 industrial zone, with a permanent population of 1.5889 million, and a GDP of 236.27 billion yuan. On October 20, 2020, it was selected into the list of national dual-support model cities.

Jiading has an export-driven economy, with exports and imports totaling 136.1 billion yuan (US$19.5 billion) in 2019. It’s also distinctive among all Shanghai districts in its developed manufacturing sector. Its industrial output surpassed 600 billion yuan in 2018, accounting for about 70 percent of its GDP, while the automobile industry, its strongest sector, takes up 70 percent of its manufacturing. Volvo manufacturing plant resides in the district.

This district has also seen fast development in the sectors of intelligent sensors and the Internet of Things, high-performance medical appliances and precision medicine, as well as e-commerce.

The establishment of the comprehensive bonded zone in 2021 is expected to take the district’s economy to a new level as highly flexible free-trade policies will be implemented in the zone to drive exports and imports. The new zone will focus on developing priority sectors in the district’s economy and will significantly cut red tapes for businesses. The zone will also enable on-the-spot manufacturing of products for export and import with tax-free imported parts. Imported products can be repaired tax free. Innovations will be facilitated as businesses can keep key imported equipment tax-free in the zone for R&D.
