believe that this is my third time in a row that I lost? Come let me tell you

about it. (The following are all accompanied with gestures and grimaces.)The

moment the cocks were put down, they both charged at each other. My

cock ducked under. My cock struck a backward rabbit punch which grazed

the other at the back. Both whirled around, and faced each other like

boxers. Suddenly they both charged at each other at the same time. They

were both up in the air. Feathers flew around like a whirlwind. My cock

kept striking at the other- right, left, right, left. The other one was often hit,

but not seriously. It was bleeding but was still on its feet. The battle

continued furiously. It was a hurricane. I could not see what was going on

because it was so fast, and feathers were flying and rising all about like

smoke. All of a sudden, I saw the other cock fall on its back. I jumped for

joy. “Kwarta na”. My cock was on its feet. It jumped on the other cock to

give it the final blow. But Castor, do you know where the cock landed?

Castor: ( He has been listening with great absorption, visualizing it all

throughout and saying “Oh” and “Ah” at appropriate intervals.) Where?

Kulas: It smacked on the other cock’s blade (Pause) Castor…

Castor… I abhor gambling. It is disgusting. Never again, I tell you.

Dreams are common to us all. Dreams are special as well. We probably

keep to ourselves many of our dreams for fear of ridicule or misunderstanding.

Oftentimes we may have selectively shared some dreams; those we figured

would get approval. The ones closest and dearest to us, the ones we feel most

vulnerable about, we may choose the treasure to our hearts only sometimes

thinking (If only you know, sometimes wondering if we are being seen).

We are coming to believe that our dreams are spirit filled. They are gifts

to encourage us. Like a ship at a sea needing a heading to move forward, our

dreams lend direction to our lives. Our frustration may be that we can’t realize

a dream without many steps and much time. But life is a process of steps.

Success in anything comes inch by inch, stroke by stroke, step by step.

Once a month, one egg matures in one ovary of a woman. Each time an egg in the ovary matures, the lining of the womb or uterus becomes thick with

many blood vessels, getting ready for the arrival of the fertilized egg. If the egg is not fertilized because there is no sperm, the egg dies. The thickening of the lining of the uterus becomes useless; it breaks up and comes out with blood

through the birth canal. This process is called menstrual cycle. Only women have menstrual flow. They have the eggs and the uterus that

thickens with many blood vessels. This also explains why menstrual flow comes once a month. It is because an egg leaves the ovary at an average of once in 28 days. This period is called the menstrual period.

Suddenly, we were bombarded with music, press releases, phone calls from people wanting to talk to us. This was more

overwhelming than either of us imagined. We both had other jobs as well, so we spent many nights talking on the phone, and listening to music into the wee hours of the morning. There was one more

component to our work. We had to go to concerts. Lots of them. Most of the concerts didn’t start until eleven or twelve in the evening, and

my” daytime” job started early – I usually had to be up at 4 AM to get to work on time. Often I wouldn’t get more than a few hours sleep, and off I would go to other job. Then my partner got hired as the

music critic at a nationwide paper, and I was left alone with twice the amount of that I had before.

23.What is the most probable conclusion about what happened after the

Lesley knows that light colors do not absorb as much heat from the sun as for the cockpit. It is very hot day. Lesley is getting dressed. She has two

25. Lesley would probably _____________.

a. wear the navy blue blouse.

b. wear the white blouse

c. put on a long-sleeved blouse.

d. Wear nothing at all.

Self –esteem is a sense of value and worth that comes from a positive self-image. It begins with you and extends to all that you do. With the belief that your

best is always good enough, no one but you can destroy your self- esteem. You destroy your esteem when you do not keep your word; when you do not

honor the agreements and commitments you make; if you say “yes” when you

really mean “no”, when you don’t follow your first thought. It is of little consequence what your past has been. It is not your concern

what others may be saying or doing. It is only in your mind that you build and destroy your self-esteem. You may not know how to raise your self- esteem, but you definitely know

how to stop lowering it.

There are times that people do things just for the sake of doing

things. Not take any considerations to what those actions really mean. As

a result, people tend to make mistakes and just feel sorry for the result of

the careless acts. People are responsible for their own actions. People

must do things because those are important, meaningful, and to give

positive outcome. Just like what MacLeish implied in his poem. He, as a

poet, does not only write a poem. Instead, he assumes a double

responsibility; he does not only make the sense of the poem describing a

Page 20: English Reviewer NAT

poem but he also uses this poem to be an example of the kind of poem

it? Trials are part of everyone’s life and one of these is the trial in one’s

love life. How one can handle the joy and pain is actually a skill. Why? It

is definitely a way of measuring your ability of facing all walks of life. As

a teenager, you often take love too seriously. When you take the sweet

fruit of love, you may feel that you are floating like a cloud and when you

feel the sour fruit, you may feel that there are thousands knives in your

heart. That is why you have to learn to be tough in facing the reality

behind love.
