Driven by a common passion for sailing, a team of engineers and naval architects

associated with manufacturers have created Karver Systems.

7 years later, Karver is the leading producer of high end deck gear.

Always a step ahead, the company continues its research to provide the next

generation of world leading deck gear.

We enter the new year with enthusiasm and determination. As with every year,

we proudly welcome in new members to the Karver team who help develop new

products with an eye on performance and innovation.

You will discover the latest evolution to our current products, especially our new range

of KBR blocks, and a full new range of KSF spinnaker furlers.

The recent acquisition of Grec Marine will add a full range of new products including

mainsail tracks, locks, and cars. Grec Marine has an excellent reputation within

the racing world and we proudly welcome them into the Karver family.

This acquisition will allow us to offer a broader range of Karver deck gear using similar

technology with complementary products.

Development of our SMART range will continue to be one of our primary focuses.

We are firm believers that the onboard intelligence that these products can offer will

change the future of sailing.

Our commitment as an eco-friendly company continues strongly, focusing on the

development of eco-sourced products to limit our impact on the environment.

We recently moved into a new environmentally friendly facility and have changed

all vehicles over to hybrids to reduce our carbon footprint.

OriginalSimple, reliable, efficient, the Karver KB block is outstanding for numerous applications.Born 7 years ago, Karver’s KB has won many awards, including the famous Freeman K. Pittman Award 2006, for innovation and design.Attached with a basic lashing, KB is unequalled in weight (vey light) to working load (very high) ratio.Assembled with ball or roller bearings, KB guarantees exceedingly low friction. Assembled with plain bearings, KB-C guarantees very high working load compared to its size.

WEIGHT SAVING

Karver uses lashing as a way of reducing weight up to 50% compared to other “performance” blocks (similar working load).

SILENCE ON BOARDUnlike metallic links, lashing avoids noise and absorbs shocks.

SAFETYLashing through the block’s centre significantly increases safety, because even if the block breaks, the running rope is still held by the lashing one.The mast will stand, no matter if the backstay block breaks!

SHIFT POSSIBILITIESLashing link offers unlimited applications and lots of different ways to attach the block (see examples next page).

From the Cup! (patented)

The Karver R&D department has been hard at work to bring you the latest in racing blocks. Taking our patented KBTi bearings technology, the new KBR blocks feature high resistance aluminum side plates. This new design offers a lower friction ratio thanks to the closed side plates, especially with tight lashings. One team from the last America’s Cup saved up to 30kg (66 lbs) by using KBR technology!

SAFETY All Karver furlers include unlosable pins and parts.

QUALITY

Karver furlers are maintenance

free (waterproof bearings) and protected by a special

anodization with Teflon impregnation.

EASY

No manipulation

on the furler to engage and remove the loop line.

ERGONOMICSThe drum is protected by a composite fibres spool to avoid any metallic contact with the sails and the deck. The spool also protects the drum from shocks.

The ideal systemA furler is the ideal system to set and strike flying sails. Racing, using multiple furlers

for various sails, Karver furlers offer the advantages of roller furling without the weight

and windage of conventional roller reefing systems.

Karver furlers optimize sail handling with minimal weight aloft.

Karver is an industry leader in this concept offering

a complete range of superior products for all sailors.

TOP DOWN SPINNAKER FURLERS

KF OptionsKSF range

Latest born from the Karver furler range: the KSF top down furler. Already approved by superyachts.KSF includes all of the standard KF advantages while adding a free tack swivel for top down asymmetrical spinnaker furling. Your spinnaker does not even need to be modified to be furled!

PERFORMANCE

The free tack swivel allows

the ability to set the luff tension independently from the anti torsion

cable tension.

ERGONOMICS

The KSF can be used to furl both

spinnakers and regular sails. Only one drum is needed for a

spinnaker, codeO, and staysail!

WEIGHT SAVING

By adding only the free tack swivel to

the lightest drum with the standard swivel, the KSF remains an incredible

space and weight saver.

SAFETY Once the KFH is locked, the halyard is not structural anymore. Luff is stiffer, no more tension loss due to halyard stretch, less compression in mast and maximum safety. It also greatly reduces the compression in the mast.

WEIGHT SAVINGNo more 2:1 halyard block is needed. As the luff tension purchase is on deck, the gravity centre is significantly lowered. One halyard of minimum diameter is needed.

PERFORMANCEWhen used, the KFH minimizes the loss of luff due to its compact design. When unused, there is a minimum weight left on the mast, due to the swivel coming down with the sail, which makes servicing easy.

ERGONOMICSThe KFH is the only system on the market combining a lock and a swivel on the same unit.

Reef lockKarver now offers reefing locks using the same technology as KFH.

System readyto be lowered

Hoist again (sail furled) to unlock the KFH. Sail can then be lowered.

System readyto be used

Hoist till the KFH is locked (sail furled). The whole system becomes a standard swivel: unfurl and sail!

UNLOCKEDLOCKED

Application examples:- Gennaker/light genoa: most production sailing yachts do not include a mast equipped with 2:1 halyard

purchase for foresails, using KFH it becomes easy to have a powerful sail thanks to an accurate setting.

- Stormsail: while calm weather, the sail is safely inside the sail compartment, the only part remaining on deck is a padeye and the lower part of the KFH on the mast base. When the wind is blowing up, the operation consists in fixing the drum to the padeye, the sail to the KFH lower part and hoisting till locked.

- Downwind staysail: same operating way.

it works?FURLING-LOCKS

We have listened to them and as a result Karver has recently acquired Grec Marine.By doing so we are now able to add tracks, cars, and mainsail locks to our innovative product ranges.Designed and manufactured with the same requirements as Karver products, Grec Marine solutions are trusted by many teams including Open 60’s and ACC’s.

Many of Grec Marine’s products were designed for and with Open 60’s, therefore offering reliable, light, high quality solutions for today’s yachts from 40’ to 165’.

We are proud to announce Karver will open a new race-orientated office in Lorient,

the heart of European ocean racing.

ECOLOG ICAL ENGAGEMENT

Our commitments for the future: Eco-productionSince 2008, we have been working with “eco” or “eco-sourced” materials. Our first tests have been successful on the KB and KBO range on which regular composite polyamid/glass fiber cheeks have been replaced by PLA* composite strengthened with flax fibers LINTEX®. The finished material is fully manufactured from non-feeding oriented renewable resources. It is compostable and ensures a reduced impact on the environment. The KB8 is already available with this material and we plan to use the material on KBO and KF after additional testing.*PLA: Poly-Lactic Acid resulting from corn stem.

Carbon Footprint®

To better understand our impact on the environment and to work on lowering our emissions, we asked for our Carbon Footprint

calculations in 2009. Results are now available and we will carefully analyze them to work on each sector to lower our carbon emissions.

Details from the study are available upon request.

Eco-friendly policy

New, wood built, headquarter which use environmentally friendly solutions such as low power consumption heaters.

The Karver vehicle fleet has been replaced with hybrid energy cars.

Karver is a proud sponsor of the Watch the Waste project, a team sailing around the world to study the waste impact on the sea.
