ENGLISH LITERATURE IN THE SIXTH FORMEnglish Literature allows pupils to explore literary texts from across a broad spectrum. These draw on a rich literary heritage and writing from different cultures.

NECESSARY QUALITIESIn order to be successful with English Literature at A Level you will need to possess the qualities below:

• The ability to communicate both orally and in writing

• A readiness to engage thoughtfully with challenging literary texts

• The ability to explore literary texts analytically and critically – open-mindedness is key here!

• An enjoyment of reading!

In addition, there will be a range of critical texts to support your understanding of the novels, plays and poetry studied in your lessons. Pupils are also encouraged to work independently on texts from our wider reading lists and contribute to online discussion forums.
