Intensive English Programs• The University of Denver is on a quarter (10 week) system.

The ELC’s 10 week Intensive English programs are designed to help students improve their English and prepare them to succeed academically in a future undergraduate or graduate degree program in the U.S.

• 10 week programs meet Monday – Thursday for 20 – 24 hours per week• Students register for 4 daily classes and choose a ‘Focus class’ based on their English level• Academic and Communication Skills classes are required and teach all language skills:

reading, writing, listening, speaking, as well as pronunciation and grammar.* Focus classes include: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Business, and Law

English Conditional Admission

• Students who apply directly to an undergraduate program may be offered English Conditional Admission (ECA) by DU’s Office of International Admission. ECA is a possibility for students who are worried about meeting the University of Denver’s (DU) English proficiency requirement.

• DU’s English language proficiency requirements for direct undergraduate admission are: A TOEFL score of 80 or higher with no sub-score below 18. An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher with no band score below 5.5. A CAE (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) grade of C or higher.

• Students offered ECA are required to take English Language Credit Courses (known as the LAUNCH Curriculum)

LAUNCH Curriculum(English Language Credit Courses)

• The LAUNCH Curriculum prepares English Conditional Admission (ECA) students to successfully matriculate and succeed in their undergraduate degree program at the University of Denver (DU)

• The LAUNCH Curriculum consists of 3 English Language Credit Courses:• Exploring US Culture (4 credits)• Speaking Strategically (4 credits)• Writing that Matters (4 credits)

• Students can earn 4 – 12 credits. Credits count toward a DU undergraduate degree!

• Students offered ECA will typically complete 1 – 4 quarters of full-time study in the English Language Center. Students then take LAUNCH Curriculum courses.

Graduate Support Course

• The ELC offers a Graduate Support Course for international students accepted to DU’s graduate programs.

• The Graduate Support course provides advanced English language training, focused on integrated communication skills specially for international graduate students.

• The course meets weekly for 2 hours per week. Students take the course while taking their graduate degree courses.

• Students can voluntarily select to register for the course or their DU advisor or professor may recommend the course. The Graduate Support Course does not offer credit and has no tuition or fees.

Short-Term Programs• The ELC also provides custom, short-term programs for groups of students or

professionals (typically 8 or more). Programs can be 1 – 4 weeks in length and can be offered throughout the year.

• We can create a custom curriculum and a flexible schedule to meet the specific needs of students or professionals. Short-term programs can focus on: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Business or Law Art, Education, or Music English Teacher Training Many more topics!

• Short-term programs include custom English language classes, experiential learning activities, visits to local organizations and companies, and guest lectures by professionals.

ELC students have many options for living in Denver!• On-campus dormitories are limited but a great way for students to live with American

students and practice their English,• The university also offers off-campus apartments that are walking distance to the ELC.• The ELC can connect students with homestay providers. In this case, students can

choose to live with an American family. Another great way to practice English!
