Dear Roshan,Last weekend, my cousins and I visited a turtle hatchery in Rantau Abang. We left Kuala Lumpur in the morning. By the time we arrive, it was already nightfall. We waited eagerly at the beach for the turtles to come ashore. Then, someone whispered, Look! Its here. We quiet walked down to the shore and sat huddled in the darkness. We see a turtle moving its flippers and began digging carefully. Then, it lay very still for much time. We thought that it is asleep. I felt an urge to touch its strong and hard shell. However, there were rule we needed to adhere to. We were not allowed to distract the turtle in any way. This included touching nor riding on its back. We were also not allowed to shine my torches as it would frighten the turtle. We asked the guide the reason in the rules. He explained that the number of turtles that returned to Rantau Abang have been declining over the years. He stressed the need to provide turtles with a suitable environment to lay eggs.
