New England came into contact with the bloodiest
skirmish in 1643 known as the Pequot war.
To prevent more casualties, Massachusetts bay,
Plymouth, New Haven and Connecticut joined
together to form the New England Confederation.
The main purpose on the confederation was to find
a way to prevent fights against the Native
Americans.
The confederation also meant defense against the
Dutch, Spanish and New France colonies.
In case of runaway slaves, the confederation also
returned them back.
King James II established the Navigation Acts to
increase military power.
This meant that all New England colonies had to
unite with each other.
When New York and New Jersey were taken over
by New England, those two states were recognized
as the “Greater New England”
After 1684, the Glorious Revolution, the Dominion of
New England fell when King James II was
apprehended.
The struggle for power of New England was one
reason that lead to the American Revolution.
