Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT) is the first full-time regular university in Dongguan, and is proud to have
Dr. Chenning Yang, a Nobel Laureate in Physics, as our Honorary President. Work on establishing DGUT commenced in 1990,
and it was finally established in April 1992. Under the authorization of the Ministry of Education, DGUT was approved as a
full-time regular university in March 2002 and as a bachelor’s degree awarding university in May 2006. In June 2010, DGUT
was listed among the initial institutions for national “Outstanding Engineers Cultivation Project” along with 61 other
universities, including Tsinghua University. At the same time, it was approved by Guangdong provincial government as a
master’s degree awarding university in August 2010. Furthermore, DGUT was listed as a key high-level science and
engineering university construction unit in Guangdong Province, in September 2015. DGUT has risen to a level of “first-grade”
local universities, and ranks No. 188 in Comprehensive Strength List of Chinese Universities for 2019, No. 73 among
universities not included in “Double First-Class University Plan”, and No. 65 among Chinese science and technology
universities and colleges.DGUT has two campuses at present—Songshan Lake Campus and Guancheng Campus, covering a total area of 2,340 mu (385.48
acres). DGUT has established an excellent teaching team consisting of more than 1,500 faculty members, including more than 160 faculty
members with senior professional titles, more than 340 with associate professional titles, and more than 690 with a doctorate degree. DGUT
has 20,338 full-time students and 13,566 adult education students. So far, DGUT has nurtured about 110,000 local talents. Libraries in the
two campuses cover a total built-up area of 45,020 m2, and have a collection of 2 million books, with 70 databases and 1.72 million e-books.
DGUT has built a wireless campus network covering the entire campus, and has established more than 6,300 access points (APs).
Dongguan is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, and a pioneer in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which is a city agglomeration consisting of Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and nine cities in Guangdong Province, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and others. It is an important platform for China to build
a world-class city agglomeration and participate in global competition. It is located in the southern and central part of Guangdong, and northeast part of the Pearl River Delta, 50 km north from Guangzhou,
90 km south from Shenzhen, 47 nautical miles from Hong Kong, and 48 nautical miles from Macao. Dongguan connects Guangzhou and Hong Kong by land and through water.
Dongguan covers an area of 2,460 square kilometers, and has a population of 8.342 million. Dongguan features a subtropical climate, with plenty of sunshine and rain, and an average temperature of
22.30℃. It has won several honorary titles, such as “Cantonese Opera City”, “City of Music”, “City of Science and Technology”, “National Forest City”, “International Garden City”, “National Civilized
City” and “National Basketball City”.
In December 2018, Dongguan ranked No. 24 in the List of Best Commercial Cities in Mainland China in 2018, No. 5 in the List of Best Prefecture-Level Cities in Mainland China in 2018, and No. 7
among 30 cities with best innovation ability. In January 2019, Dongguan was listed in “WFBA Top 50 Cities with Best Investment Potential in China”.

plan and passed oral defense of their graduation thesis can obtain the
