Job Title: Engineering Technician Job Purpose Statement: To minimise plant and equipment failure, reduce downtime and maintain the production / operations equipment and machinery within Thorntons PLC, and to proactively participate in project work for continuous improvement. Staff The engineering technician is responsible for assisting in the training and development of skilled/technical machine operators, apprentice and post apprentice engineers and supervising contractors on site in accordance with the company policies and procedures. Other This role will apply practical skills, knowledge and experience to the workplace and assist in the timely and competent completion of repairs, maintenance and improvement activities within the business while assisting and team-working with other members of the department and production teams. This role assists in ensuring regulatory and legal requirements are met on our plant and services. Key accountabilities include Maintaining production plant, machinery and equipment to increase its life and reduce the potential for unplanned downtime / failure. Have a working knowledge of all production equipment, machinery and plant to quickly identify faults and make necessary repairs and / or improvements to assist in meeting the operational plans. Supporting and working with the engineers to repair, maintain and improve plant reliability. Identifying maintenance requirements on plant and equipment. Assist in project planning, and execution.

Maintain a high level of organisation and good working practice within the engineering workshops (own work area) and around the work area in the production environment.

Supporting initiatives to reduce energy consumption through repairing air leaks etc. and sourcing viable low energy alternative parts.

Co-ordinate contractor activity and inspect the quality of contractors work.

Technical Skills include: Working with hand and power tools, Skilled to use lathes, abrasive wheels, miller & pillar drill, (M) Fabrication ability, (M) Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulics, (M) Electrical awareness certificate, Qualifications include: City & Guilds / BTEC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent. A proven record of attainment leading toward the above. CQM – CI techniques (or equivalent)Working Contacts/Special Features Process Managers and operators for production / downtime issues and projects. Contractors and suppliers for projects, spares and replacement parts. Safety, Engineering and Facilities Managers for advice on new legislation / assistance to ensure

legal compliance. Office staff where work dictates. Other individuals / companies both internal and external that will assist in completing tasks.

KPI measures Collation, analysis and reduction in line downtime Measure and adherence to line changeover times Involvement with product trials and first runs Knowledge of MRP to enable preparation for new products Availability & purchase of changeparts (including raising capex) Training adherence of skilled / technical staff Completion of CI projects Adherence to lock off policy Completion of Health & Safety issues raised on daily audit Daily handover information Communication of issues and decision making
