Space Debris Problem
• Space junk is a serious threat to satellites(both existing satellites
and launching satellites): NASA estimates that half a million
particles with diameters between one and 10 centimeters (about
four inches) are orbiting Earth, with average impact speeds above
22,000 mph.
• Without satellites we have no:
– Internet
– Cell Service
– Online Gaming
– GPS
– Cable

What is Space Fence
• Space Fence will use S-band ground-based radars (operate on a
wavelength of 8-15 cm and a frequency of 2-4 GHz) to provide the Air
Force with detection, tracking and accurate measurement of space
objects.
• Shorter wavelengths make the new radar more precise; it will be able to
detect targets as small as about four inches in diameter (as opposed to
the old 30-inch limit) and will expand the catalog of space debris tracked
by the Space Command from about 23,000 objects to 200,000.
• When the radar detects an object orbiting Earth, it reports to computers
that characterize the object and calculate its trajectory. If the item
matches one already in the catalog, its record is simply updated; a new
object is tracked until its orbit can be estimated and is then added to the
catalog.
• Location: Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands

Educational Path
• NJ Stars Program
• Spent 2 years at Camden County where I received my
associates degree in mathematics
• Spent remaining 2 years at Rowan University where I
received my bachelors in Mathematics.
• GRADUATED DEBT FREE!

College Advice
• Go to a school that YOU feel comfortable with
• Don’t take on too much debt – it’s not worth it
• The school you attend and your GPA is important for
your first job – after that, it’s all about job performance
• Get involved, take on leadership roles; you will find the
time, and it’s a great way to make friends
• Get to know your professors and TA’s, go to office
hours
• NEVER, EVER PROCRASTINATE
• Don’t forget to have fun!
