Horse of the day : Billy de la Calade (607)

    7. AFRICAIN - Best recent placing when third at Montier-en-Der in July. Fully unshod for first time since February 2014

    13. AH QUEL MICHA - Vincennes winner in May. Third run back from three-month break and suited by drop back in trip

    14. TONTON LOUIS - Course winner last year. Runner-up at Pornichet-La Baule in August but disqualified last three outings

    15. JAGUAR BROLINE - Win in Germany in September. Fifth of 17 behind third-placed (11) Perfect Power at Vincennes last time

    16. VICKY DU BOCAGE - Successful at Vincennes in January. Third at Royan-La Palmyre in August. Fourth of 15 at Le Croise-Laroche last time

Summary A riddle wrapped inside an enigma to start the card with many of the field having claims. The drop back in trip should suit both (8) OPITERGIUM and (13) AH QUEL MICHA with marginal preference for the first named. Marseille-Vivaux winner (11) PERFECT POWER arrives in great heart while the inconsistent (3) RADIEUX could play a major part on a going day. The booking of Eric Raffin for (4) UNGARO JET could be a clue.

    Selections

    (8) OPITERGIUM - (13) AH QUEL MICHA - (11) PERFECT POWER - (3) RADIEUX - (4) UNGARO JET - (2) SUPER ARIEL - (7) AFRICAIN - (15)

    JAGUAR BROLINE

    5. DONA JUELA - Off the mark in a class E at this track in August. Has found it harder in class Cs since

    6. DONZELLE D'EPONA - Runner-up four times this year in harness but still a maiden after 20 races. Ridden debut

    15. DRAGEE DU LYS - Placed in three of last four mounted outings. Second of 12 here last time out

    Summary

  • The first ridden race on the card features (14) DURZIE who has a fifty per cent record and would have been in the frame at least last time but for breaking stride. A clear round here will probably herald a return to the winner's enclosure. (12) DIVA DE VAUVERT was denied a hattrick by a good sort last time while (11) DOLCE VITA GRIFF has a legitimate claim based on her harness form.

    Selections

    (14) DURZIE - (11) DOLCE VITA GRIFF - (12) DIVA DE VAUVERT - (2)

    DOYALE FOR D'AM

    15. BALTHAZAR MAZA - Victorious at Vincennes in June 2014 and again in June 2015. Runner-up twice this August. Fifth of seven at Toulouse latest

    16. ATTILA DU RIB - Won at Laval in September and just gets in under the earnings ceiling after finishing down the field at Meslay-du-Maine earlier this month

Summary (9) BALTHAZAR D'EM remains in excellent form and can pick up the winning

  • thread after finishing second when bidding for a four-timer at Vincennes last time. The consistent (10) BE BOP MARA is an obvious worry and (16) ATTILA DU RIB just gets into the race beneath the earnings ceiling while (12) BEAU DE MORGANE has been harvesting claimers of late.

    Selections

    (9) BALTHAZAR D'EM - (10) BE BOP MARA - (16) ATTILA DU RIB - (12)

BEAU DE MORGANE - (8) BYRON DU KLAU

    16. VERSO DE MADE - Won for second time this year when taking a decent heat at Meslay-du-Maine earlier this month

Summary It might be worth taking a risk with (3) ACADIENNE who has the ability to take a heat like this but is a regular transgressor of the rules. Meslay-du-Maine victor

  • (16) VERSO DE MADE is the most likely to take advantage if the selection does break stride again. Course-winner (14) TILLEUL D'ANJOU is next best.

    Selections

    (3) ACADIENNE - (16) VERSO DE MADE - (14) TILLEUL D'ANJOU - (9)

    14. ECLIPSE DU PORET - Third of 12 on debut to (2) Exotic Destination at Alencon earlier this month

Summary Newcomer (13) ELEVATION may have what it takes to score first time up. She's a half-sister to Group 2-winner Captain Crazy and could have a decent future. (5) EUREKA DE NAPPES has proven form in the book after winning at Graignes on her first appearance while (6) ELOVIA BELLA only just lost out on her first run.

  • Selections

    13. BOCAGE DU RIB - Won at Graignes in April and at Rambouillet in June. Runner-up for second time in a row at Moulins-la-Marche last time

Summary The second ridden race on the card could go the way of (7) BILLY DE LA CALADE who is seeking a sixth victory this year after a comfortable success at Vincennes in September. The consistent (13) BOCAGE DU RIB could be the main danger while (11) EXCEPTIONAL BOKO is of interest on his first attempt in this sphere.

    Selections

  • (7) BILLY DE LA CALADE - (13) BOCAGE DU RIB - (11) EXCEPTIONAL

    BOKO - (12) BRUTUS LEMAN

Summary (3) DECADENCE made a decent return to action when sixth at Vincennes last month after a seven-month absence and should be able to reverse the placings with (7) DREAM STORY who finished fourth on that occasion. Back up in trip (13) DIVINE DI LEONE can stake a claim while (6) DAYTONA JET is not a forlorn

  • hope.

    Selections

    (3) DECADENCE - (7) DREAM STORY - (13) DIVINE DI LEONE - (6)

    DAYTONA JET

Summary An open contest to finish with where (5) CARACAS gets a tentative nod. She

  • gave the impression that she is likely to come on a bundle after her second prep run - since returning from a three-break - when sixth at Graignes two weeks ago. (10) CLARA DALLAUCH remains in good nick when not breaking stride and course-winner (6) CHERIE MY LOVE also has a shout.

    Selections

    (5) CARACAS - (10) CLARA DALLAUCH - (6) CHERIE MY LOVE - (14)

    CECILITA - (16) CANNEBIERE

  • DEAUVILLE - 17th October Trainer of the day : Jean-Claude Rouget (105, 201, 402, 501, 514)

    Jockey of the day : Christophe Soumillon (304, 402, 514, 612, 701)

Horse of the day : Luannan (201)

Dark Horse : Daring Storm (815)

Race 1 1. FORTY FOOT - In good form and is proven at this level. Leading contender

    2. COSTA ESMERALDA - In-form Spanish visitor who should be competitive once more

    3. ZANZARI - Must improve to feature, but has does have scope to do so

    4. IF I SAY SO - Running well at present, including a runner-up finish last time. One to beat

    5. LE CANDIDAT - Has shown ability. Can feature with improvement expected

    6. DUBAI KNIGHTS - Can earn on best form, though recent efforts are uninspiring

Summary (4) IF I SAY SO filled the runners-up berth in a similar contest last time and is fancied to go one better in this line-up, if reproducing that effort. However, despite having to shoulder top-weight, in-form (1) FORTY FOOT should pose a significant threat. Both (5) LE CANDIDAT and (2) COSTA ESMERALDA have shown enough to make their presence felt.

    Selections

    (4) IF I SAY SO - (1) FORTY FOOT - (5) LE CANDIDAT - (2) COSTA

    ESMERALDA

  • Race 2 1. LUANNAN - Ultra-consistent, prolific winner. Hard to oppose

    2. CHILL WIND - Poor recent form at a higher level. Could show more in this grade

    3. TARATCHI - Has shown signs of a return to form recently. Can feature on best form

    4. SHINING RULES - Moderate recent efforts are of little appeal. More needed

    5. ORCIA - Returned to form on this surface last time. Chance if reproducing that performance

    6. VERMONT - Capable of better than recent efforts suggests. Outside chance

Summary (1) LUANNAN has picked up where he left off after a lengthy absence, returning to winning ways last time. Still lightly raced, he should have even more to come and is confidently fancied to go one better at the expense of (5) ORCIA, who returned to form last time, and (3) TARATCHI who is probably better than recent efforts suggest. The others have plenty to do.

    Selections

    (1) LUANNAN - (5) ORCIA - (3) TARATCHI - (6) VERMONT

  • Race 3 1. LE PIN - Returned to form last time after a disappointing effort on this surface prior to that.

    2. CANYON CITY - Ultra-consistent, runner-up in 4 of 5 starts. Will be competitive again

    3. SIRINSKA - Consistent stayer, always thereabout and should be involved once more

    4. ASHIQANA - Talented, progressive individual who should go close to winning in this line-up

    6. ENKI GIRL - Poor recent form. Needs to recapture earlier form to feature

    7. PRINCESSE AVA - Has shown little ability. Others preferred

    8. TRANCOSO - Etienne & Gregoire Leenders-trained Rock of Gibraltar newcomer

    9. DULCI D'UN REGARD - Unable to confirm recent improvement last time. Needs to show more

Summary (4) ASHIQANA has finished close up in both starts and, with improvement expected, should be very competitive again. Consistent (3) SIRINSKA should pose a threat on current form, though. (2) CANYON CITY has filled the runners-up berth on numerous occasions and, probably, deserves to get his head in front, while both (1) LE PIN and (5) DIEU BENISSE are others in a competitive line-up with an each-way chance.

    Selections

    (4) ASHIQANA - (3) SIRINSKA - (2) CANYON CITY - (1) LE PIN

    6. HURRY - Dam was unraced and two of her produce have won and another has placed black type

    7. OYECOMOVA - Dam was a poor maiden and her first foal has yet to win

Summary This is a fascinating event with a couple of choicely bred newcomers on view. Jean Claude Rouget might have the key with his War Front half sister to Dear Lavinia in (2) DREAM AWHILE and would look a fair bet. (6) HURRY represents Sogorb and could be the one for the forecast. (1) HUKAMAA and (5) SILVER CLOUDS can complete the placings.

    Selections

    (2) DREAM AWHILE - (6) HURRY - (1) HUKAMAA - (5) SILVER CLOUDS

The Rouget pair (1) AFANDEM and (14) PARTNER IN CRIME must be respected also. The well bred (15) OSPECTOR

  • cannot be ruled out.
