∎ABOUT THE AUTHOR∎

I am Viet, a student of the United Nations International School. I was born on February 2nd, 2001 and am now in 6th grade (6LH). Our unit, “Imaginary World” has given me and my other classmates a strive to write these kinds of poems. Over time, I begin to find writing poems more interesting and fun. I began to inquire more about poems as I continue to learn. I hope you enjoy my five poems that I have wrote for you under this slide

POEM #1 | HAIKU

Thunder

Hammers down from clouds

Strikes when unnoticed and loud

Comes during rain

Sloth-ish

Cousin

POEM #2 | METAPHOR

My cousin is a sloth

He is so slow in thinking and is also physically slow

Although he is slow in most ways he is very deceptive, using fake emotions

and tricking people with sarcasm

He goes around unnoticed and always hidden from others but until he is

spotted, he will then socialize.

He is very timid, as you can tell. He isn't very communicative but is a real

risk taker.

Although I get him to socialize he always gets away

Tangerine

POEM #3 | METAPHORS & SIMILES

On the outside, you look like a grenade, soaring through the sky landing into a bottomless pit of the enemy base

You feel like baby powder as soft as can be

When I peel you, you sound like ripping leaves that once were living but now are gone

When I open you, you sound like a heart pumping blood to the inner core

Inside you, you look like a underwater base, containing secrets of the water world

You feel like the road, as coarse as can be

You smell like perfume, as strong as air freshener

You taste like sugar, as sweet as candy

Now tell me, what do you think about a Tangerine, is it good or bad, tasty or not.

POEM #4 | PERSONIFICATION

A car for a rich man to ride

Faster than sound

And as durable as a plane

He will stay with you till the end

And will never give in

He stays strong by your side

Like man's best friend

Food devouring machine

But is somewhat picky

It chooses particular food

For its apatite

Then it will eat till its full

The Fight

POEM #5

When I was little,

I had a cousin

Who was very annoying and selfish too

We picked on each other

and I always won.

But one day there was a tragedy

It was between him and me

We fought each other

Punching and kicking

Biting and spiting

But then we stopped

He and I were in much pain.

I thought to myself that day,

I will take revenge on that selfish

Weakling and we'll see who's better

than who.

The next day I asked my parents

when he was coming back

They said on Saturday

So I waited until that day

And once again I fought.
