    1) Description of the match:

The match between England and Italy was the second match in the tournament. Anthony

Gautier from France was assigned to referee the match. Spectators from both teams were in

Bloomfield watching the game and created a good atmosphere. The weather conditions for

the game were good. Italy were dominating most parts of the game and eventually scored at

min. 79. The weather conditions were good, 25C and a little bit cloudy.

    Referee

    2) Knowledge, Application and Interpretation of the Laws of the Game, Disciplinary

Control and Technical Management of the game with special reference to the situations

and the minutes when they occurred.

(Crucial decisions, if available, have to be explicitly mentioned in the grid andhighlighted).

    Comments:

The referee Gautier did try to let the game flow as much as possible, the foul detection was

good and the referee showed what kind of play he would allow. Gautier showed 4 yellow card

during the, all of them during the second half. He could have issued atleast one more.

There was some crucial decisions, the first one during min. 38 where Robinson (ENG) fouled

Florenzi (ITA) inside the penalty area, AAR2 was not far from this incident and should assist

the referee in this situation. Another crucial decision was in min. 49 where England scored a

goal on a corner kick, the referee signaled for a goal and both sides thought it was a goal, sodid the spectators, however the goal had been disallowed, AAR2 had spotted that an English

player pushed an Italian inside the penalty area. OK decision. In minute 76 Clyne (ENG) made

a foul on Gabbiadini (ITA), the first contact was well outside the box, however Gautier first

signaled for a penalty and after consultation with his assistants this was changed to a free

kick. Overall it seemed that the referee wasnt concentrated and alert at all situations, he did

call some fouls and missed some.

    Minute Description of the situation

38 Missed penalty call, Florenz (ITA)i fouled inside the penalty area

42 Shelvey (ENG) makes a reckless foul on Biraghi (ITA). Foul given, but here a YCshould be given aswell.

49 Disallowed goal due to a push on an Italian player

65 Lowe (ENG) fouls Borini (ITA) and is booked. Correct yellow card.

    76

Clyne (ENG) makes a foul on Gabbiadini (ITA). Clyne is given an YC. Freekick that

lead to a goal for Italy was however first signaled as a penalty by the referee.

This was changed after consultation with assistants

87 Bianchetti (ITA) fouls Chalobah (ENG) by pulling him. Correct yellow card given.

93Insigne (ITA) is given a yellow card for not keeping the distance during a

    freekick. Correct yellow card.

    3) Tactical approach and its Degree of Consistency, Personality, Match Control and

Management of the Teams and Players with special reference to the situations and the

    minutes when they occurred.

    Comments:

Gautier did early set a line for what he would tolerate in the game and kept in, he was

consistent in his fouls. He was talking to the players often and tried to calm them down, though this hadnt too much effect as it was quite fussy between the players often.

    Summary of 2) and 3):

Positive Points 1. Communicating often with the players

    2. Lets the game flow

    Not meeting require-

    ments, points that

    need improvement

1.Should be more concentrated and alert to be able to take

    crucial calls correctly2. Card management

    Minute Description of the situation

38 Missed penalty call, Florenzi fouled inside the penalty area

    4) Physical Shape, Stamina, Positioning, Movement as well as Mental Awareness, if

needed, with reference to the minutes when they occurred, always in case of a -.

Physical Condition (very good, good, average, poor): Good

    Further Aspects:

    + Expected -

XAlways close to play, follows play at all times with a flexible

diagonal system and impedes interference with play

    X

Efficient positioning (at set pieces e.g.) and movement to be

ready to take a (crucial) decision (specially in the box; be

able to enter the box in some cases when it is necessary)

X Shows awareness and is able to anticipate the action

    Minute Description of the situation

    5) Teamwork (co-operation with (A)ARs and fourth official with reference, if needed, to

special situations and the minutes when they occurred)

    Comments:

The teamwork could be improved, Gautier should listen to what his assistants has to say

before he takes a decision on his own. This would make both players and spectators aware of

what is happening. For example min. 49 and 76 where he changed his decisions after

    discussion with assistants.
