EXALTED RULER MESSAGE

Hello my fellow members,

believe it or not it is officially fall and the warm (hot!) summer weather will be behind us soon. With the change in the seasons, comes more changes and events at the Lodge.

Your new Board of Directors is working very hard to serve you and keep our lodge open and active, while

still providing a safe environment for our members, guests, and staff. We are once again opening Steak Nite

every Wednesday n ight wi th entertainment. Your officers and volunteers are excited to be there on Wednesdays to serve you. I hope to see many more of you at the lodge enjoying a good steak dinner and great

entertainment. Check the calendar at the back of the newsletter for the entertainment listings. In order for us to resume our

Wednesday Steak Nite, we need your cooperation. This is a simple process for Steak Nite and is in accordance

with State of Utah guidelines:

1. When you leave your table, please wear a face mask.

2. When going through the buffet line, you must use the provided hand sanitizer before you accept your plate and utensils.

Another fun event coming up is the ENF Oktoberfest on October 10 in the Pavilion. Come up and enjoy beer, wine, limited bar, music, and great food. Of course what would October be without a good Halloween Party with a

costume contest and music by Vinyl Fusion. This year the Halloween Party will

actually be on Halloween. Watch for ticket sales for both of these events. Please remain safe, sane and healthy.

Hello everybody, I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. Real quick we can talk about the

lodge and the improvements that are in the beginning stages. Our landscaping and the rest of the projects on the outside of the lodge are moving along quite nicely each day it’s looking better. We have been able to bring back our Fish Nite on Fridays with entertainment, which has been a huge success. We have also been able to bring back our Steak Nite on Wednesday, and now we will have entertainment on that night. Thank you to all that attend these

events, and thank you for being respectful of the 6-foot distancing and the wearing of the masks.

Elks Eye Fair Saturday, Oct. 24

9am-1pm at the Lodge

Following Covid-19 safety guidelines, there will be no carnival activities or refreshments. Doctors from Paradise Canyon Eye Care and Dixie Eye Care will give eye screenings to children in grades K-12.

Our past Eye Fairs have been very successful, and I am confident this year's will be too, but not without you! We still need volunteers to greet and sign-in kids, fill out paperwork, and point to eye charts. If you are able to help at the Eye Fair, please contact Elaine Heger-Gubler at [email protected]. or call or text me in the evenings at 435-668-3180.

The month of August was busy for the Ladies of Elks (LOE). Linda Chalet received an award for participation in numerous events. There will be bake less bake sale in Sept. The National LOE met in Provo on Sept. 12. Many attended. Steak Night was resumed on Sept. 9 with special sanitizing procedures in

place. Everything went smoothly and fun was had by all who attended. The ELKS members are asking for donations that can be shipped to the Utah

National Guard who are serving in Afghanistan. Thirty of the three hundred serving in Afghanistan are women.Check the website for additional information. There is an Adopt a Vet program starting after the first of 2021. Also, we have

seventeen thousand veterans buried in Washington county. Anyone wishing to participate can adopt sections of a cemetery and place wreaths on their

Well we finally did the “Pie in the Face” event last month…which was scheduled for late March…and raised over $1,000 for new clubroom chairs. We also had a couple of "Opportunity Drawings," and as you see, the 3 candidates were duly pied. Julie Wright, our entertainment for the evening, is Lance Wright’s cousin

and we were told that Lance made Julie eat a grasshopper when they were very young…Julie had everyone in her corner as we all added to the pot so she could deliver the goods to Lance. After the mess was cleaned up we

enjoyed Julie’s music and a whole lot of dancing.

VETERANS CORNER

Thank you to everyone who donated items for the Adopt-a-Ghost Program in September.

I’m sure our National Guard Unit members in Afghanistan will be very happy with the boxes we sent.

Please attend the Veterans Committee meeting on October 15 to meet our guest speaker Rodger Graves from the Missing in America Project. Rodger will give a presentation on this project to locate and identify the families of the unclaimed remains of American veterans. This group works at securing a final resting place for the forgotten heroes. All are welcome. Please RSVP at 435-773-6974 or [email protected] to reserve a seat.

Wreaths Across America provides wreaths to the gravesites of 1,950 veterans on December 19. We have been invited to assist in this work. Contact Dick Wilson to form a group to assist the DAR in this project. The group has been unable to hold all of its fundraisers this year so we have made a donation to assist them.

We have received an all-clear from the retirement homes in St George to proceed with our Military Christmas Tree. Look for the announcement of the dates the tree will be installed at the Lodge. The tree will be hung with stars that will include the name of the individual, their wish list and the home they reside in. We suggest the maximum purchase price at $25 per star. After you purchase the gift(s), return the wrapped packages to the Lodge with the star attached. We will need help to deliver the gifts. The details will be in the November article.

The Adopt-a-Veteran Program and the Ivins Home Pen Pal Program are continuing as well as can be expected in these difficult times. We are providing weekly care to two of our Elk veterans and we have good reports of the Pen Pal experiences.

Elk Veterans we hope to see you raising your hands to assist in the listed projects as you are able.

Remember to reach out to our veterans with care and honor.

ENF CORNER To my Dixie Elks friends,

I love sharing our ENF report with all of you for the month. We are now at $4,284! We are doing so good, but have so far to go. Our raffle from the Eureka Night Stay was $255. Randy Benson won that getaway. Congrats Randy.

We are hosting an Oktoberfest for the ENF Fundraiser at the Lodge Pavillion see the attached flyer. Get your tickets from the staff and come join us. We will have raffles, brats, beer, dancing with Kevin Auernig and just all around fun.

Sunday afternoons at Sunset Bowl are becoming the thing to do.

64 eager people showed up to help the Elks raise money for our scholarship fund. Again I will say, "How sweet is that?"

Jim was the high money winner for the guys and Sandy (who is an Elk and forever volunteer) has the bragging rights for the gals.

Rebecca, who won the Lucky 13 last month, was called again to try this month. Alas! not this time. Then Erick, and no luck.

The Strike Pot went from A to Z - Jerry, Pearl, Rebecca, Clint, Eric, Bob, Jim, Kathi, Bill, Carolyn, Kayle, Merry, Tony (whose name ends with a Z), and then Don. The two winners were Clint and Don. Looking at the amount of people it took , it appears throwing a ball and getting all ten pins is not a sure thing.

And after saying that, we are inviting you and all to come to Sunset Bowl (that is the place to be) on October 11.

It would be appreciated if you would be there no later than 1:15.A good time is promised for all.It is so nice to let you know that there are a couple of the bowlers who donate back what they win to the fund.
