GEOTHERMAL IMPORTANT DETAILS

1.How is the energy source used to make electricity? Describe the process. This energy source is used by heating up houses and other building. The process is when the steam from the hot water underground goes up a well then the steam drives the turbines, which in turn drive electricity generators. The generators produce electrical energy. The steam escapes the power plant though vents. Excess water is put back into the ground.

GEOTHERMAL IMPOTANT DETAILS

2.Is the energy source renewable or nonrenewable? WHY? The energy source is renewable because there is always going to be hot rock under earths surface.

Geothermal Important Deltas

3.HOW LONG HAVE HUMANS USED THIS ENERGY SOURCE?? GIVE EXAMPLES OF THIS AND HOW IT WAS USED…

Humans have used this energy source for a good amount of time now. Like going to a GEOTHERMAL plant you find out a lot more than I can give you.

PRO’S

One of the pros is that the geothermal energy heats your house

Puts some water back into the ground

One other thing is that it makes hot water for us to use

NO POLLUTIONDose not require structures such as

solar panels or wind mills to collect energy –can be directly used to heat or produce electricity (thus is very cheap)

Page 6: ENERGY SOURCE BY:EMILY CHAPURA GEOTHERMAL & COAL

CON’SNot much power per vent

Not available in many locations Hazardous gases and minerals may

come up from under ground and can be difficult to safely dispose of

Sometimes a geothermal site may run out of steam perhaps for decades

The type of rock above is also important it must be a type that we can easily drill through

How This Energy Is Used Today

To heat housesTo heat our bathes, showers

wash our clothes &/or dishes To charge our devices To heat pumpsTo heat electric blanks

COAL IMPORTANT DEATLS

1.How is this energy source used to make electricity? Describe the process. This energy source is used by burning the substance to make heat. The people would buy the coal then take the coal and put in the stove to start cooking or make the warmth for the bathes and other things .

COAL IMPORTANT DEAITLS

2.IS THIS ENERGY SOURCE RENEWABLE OR NONRENEWABLE??? WHY????????????????????????

The energy source coal is nonrenewable because once the coal is burned the coal that you burned cant be used again.

3.HOW LONG HAVE HUMANS USED THIS ENGERY SOURCE ?? GIVE AN EXAMLPE OF WHERE AND WHEN THIS ENERGY SOURCE WAS USED??

The 1800’s and early 1900’s. the coal was used to power trains, cook food, keep warm, and make a fire.

PRO’SCoal is good because it helps

cookCoal is good because it keeps

people warmCoal is good because it helped

people get around Coal is good for making a messCoal is good for

CON’S

Coal makes pollution Coal is very expensive Once all the coal is used there is

no more Once the coal is burned it cant be

used again Once the coal is burned the coal

makes a mess to clean Coal is very hard to find

sometimes

HOW COAL IS USED TODAY

Coal is still used to cookCoal is still used to power old trains Coal is still used to burn and keep

warmthCoal is also used for making glasses Coal is also used for making ceramicCoal is also used for making paper
