This advanced feature also allows you to: — find matches based on misspelled or partial words, — search words within a certain proximity of each other and words grouped into clauses — use "wildcard" and “boosted” terms

CREATING CUSTOMIZED RESEARCH FOLDERS

For specific instructions on how to use the advanced search, click the icon to the right of the “Use Advanced Terms?” question.

Located under the basic search field on your home page, the Advanced Search provides an easy-to-use template enabling you to use common Boolean search connectors — OR, AND, NOT or NEAR — in key word searches. It also offers several key criteria, including topic and publication title, which help narrow the scope of your search before it is executed. Specifically, you may search by:

BROWSING BY TOPICExplore Thompson’s in-depth coverage by browsing hundreds of topics.

1. Click the down arrow in the Browse Topics section of the search bar, which is organized into two high-level topics • Natural gas transportation • FERC rules of practice and procedure

2 Select a specific topic to display results or drill down to subtopics by clicking on the arrow to the left of the topic

You can create customized folders to save an unlimited number of documents, including our analysis, news and agency documents. When you go back to access that document, you’ll find the most up-to-date version without having to run another search query.

Once you’ve found the content you need:1. Click on the “Save to Research Folders” tab2. A box will appear allowing you to either add the document to a folder you previously created by simply clicking the + symbol that appears next to the name of the folder you select, or3. “Add a new folder,” by entering a name in the space provided and clicking the + sign next to it. 4. You can then continue searching or accessing one of the other features offered

BROWSING BOOKS

In addition to using our powerful search engine, you also can directly access any one of the books within your subscription — and navigate to and within them — by selecting the “My Books” option in the left column. Click on the specific category to see the Thompson publications in your subscription.

You also can navigate within your publications by using the handy Table of Contents that slides out from the right side of your screen. The Table of Contents will remain an instant option for you to use even as you scroll down through the text.

NAVIGATING WITHIN CONTENTAfter you’ve selected a particular chapter or section and the content is displayed, you easily can move to subsequent (and previous) chapters or sections.

1. For chapters, the tabs at the top show both the previous and subsequent chapters of the book you selected — simply click on the chapter numbers displayed.2. For sections and subsections, the tabs at the bottom of the text, allow you to navigate to subsequent or previous sections or subsections (at whichever level you’ve selected) by clicking on the section/subsection numbers displayed or using the arrows indicating next and previous in the sequence.

STATUTES AND REGULATIONSImportantly, references to statutes and regulations in the online content are directly linked to the full text of those statutes and regulations, making it easy for you to toggle between our proprietary analysis and the actual language of these primary sources. Thompson Information Services has partnered with Casemaker®, a leader in legal research information. Casemaker® offers a continuously updated collection of sources including federal and state statutes, regulations and case law.

User access to Casemaker services varies depending on the type of user you are and the number of publications you have purchased.

1. Individuals & Businesses Not Law Firms or Law Schools. These users can access links to Federal and State Regulations and Statutes and case law cited in publications, and direct access to Federal/State Regulations and Statutes via “Search Box.”2. Law Firms and Law Practices Subscribing to Three or Fewer Publications. These users can access links to Federal and State Regulations and Statutes and case law cited in publications, and direct access to Federal/State Regulations and Statutes via “Search Box.”3. Law Firms and Law Practices Subscribing to Four or More Publications. These users can access links to Federal and State Regulations and Statutes and case law cited and direct access to Casemaker’s full offering of Federal/State Regulations and Statutes, case law, court rules, constitutions, regulations, administrative decisions, law reviews, attorney general opinions and law journals.
